The Blob was filmed in a small town a couple of hours from where I live. Each year they have Blobfest, including the annual crowd running screaming from the theatre.

I refuse to watch remakes of Classic Sci-Fi movies. Like the remake of the "Day the Earth Stood Still" which from what I have read is almost completely different from the original.

Forbidden planet had excellent special effects for its time.

As well, the entire soundtrack was theremin music, forever associating the theremin with sci-fi.
