My Mood: SL Join Date: January 27, 2007 | Thanks Cris. I started the boaters and aviators group. I didn't have an appropriate icon handy, so I posted a plate of tamales. They ar enot flying tamales, nor will the float for very long, so I hope that's ok? Sooz |

Im not sure how you sign up..I think look for groups and sign up. I've been sailing for a while but just got introduced to flying by friends. I have a WWII era PBY Catalina. It is low and slow but boy howdy, does it make those sim crossings!! I have a little airstrip in my sim and I am a member of an aviation group called NorthStar Fliers. We're kind of like SL bush pilots. Love to have you!! I'll send you a LM and some info in world tonight. Bring Oryx along too, if she's interested? Sooz

That's a good question. They do just about everything imaginable. The boating community is basically quite widespread and fairly well organized. I don't know that much about the power boaters, but I know they cruise around from sim to sim and I know they have races. I'm a sailor so I know more about that. There are several yacht clubs and even more marinas where you can launch a boat and sail out into Linden waters. LL has actually done a fairly decent job of creating Linden waters where you can sail without running into ban lines and similar annoyances. They created an area called the Blake sea that contains several sims of just water and a few non residential islands. there are sail boat races, literally every day. Most, but not all, of the mainland is connected to this. What I like to do is long distance sailing. I rez a boat at my sim [quite luckily, my sim is connected to Linden water] and pick a place to sail to. With a little luck, I can make it. Sim crossings are the big problem. Its beter than it used to be, but there are times when its prety bad -like the weekends when there are over 70,000 AVs signed in. I belong to a club that does two long distanc esails a week - one on tuesday which I can't do cause I'm at work and one on Sunday. After the cruise, we have a party at one of the hosting marinas. There are people who into the pirate thing and I've heard there may be even a pirate area inthe works so that the pirates can have sea battles. The pilots aren't as well organized as the sailors, but there are a few groups for them as well, including NorthStar Fliers which is one of the smaller ones. More and more airports and landing strips are springing up. Some people just like to fly. Some like air to air combat. I fly kind of like how I sail. I like to launch my sea plane and then just fly to another location, be it a landing strip or even land it inthe water. I plan on buying a helicopter soon, since that is actually a great vehicle for sight seeing. I don't have any personal experience, but knowing human nature and SL i suspect strongly that people are not only having sexual activity on their boats but I'm positive that a few of them have figured out how to do it in an aircraft as well. I hope this answers your question. Sooz

My Mood: SL Join Date: January 27, 2007 | I am sure I will be getting a helicopter. Also, like Trout, I am intrigued by bi planes. A friend has a Grumman Duck which is a seaplane bi plane and it is cool. It is supposed to be easy to fly, so I'll probably get one of those too. Both sailing and aviation are difficult enough to be challenging but not nearly as impossible as they used to be. Neither are point and steer type vehicles. With sailing you have have wind. there is actually SL wind but like most things associated with LL it is unreliable and erratic whether through negligence or design..who knows? With most sail boats, you can set the wind so far as direction and velocity. Once set, you head out into open waters and sail a course back and forth re positioning the sail or sails constantly all the while avoiding man made obstacles, the infernal shallows that the imbeciles at LL decided would be a good thing [!!!!!] in open waters, boats etc. You also have to avoid sim corners like the very plague. With airplanes, you take off, get the desired altitude and proceed. It is usually a good idea to avoid flying over land when possible. This is because of the usual darned lag issues as well as the ban lines put up by everyone with an IQ under 90. Like sailing, it is best to avoid sim corners. Speed is anathema in flying. Every sim crossing is a risk of crossing and is increased by how fast you are going. I fly slow. You have to pay constant attention to speed altutude and position. It gives me something to do. On a typical evening I log in, fuss with my appearance for a while and then go to usually three or four clubs and either dance or wait around to be asked to dance. I get bored. Even in a crowd, I am alone and actually more alone than if I am just by myself. I usualyl check to see if friends are on line, but am usually hesitant to IM anyone for fear that I am interrupting something. I go home and either put on a cute sailing outfit or one of my aviatrix get ups and rez a boat or plane. Then I sail or fly. When I arrive at another airport, marina or yacht club, sometimes there are people there, sometimes not. Sometimes the other people say hi and engage in a brief conversation. Sometimes not. Then I sail or fly back. Then I go to the little club house and play the piano. Its something to do that is challenging enough that you don't think about being alone. Then I log off and go to bed. My friends and I are working on a fun game that involves some aviation [or boating] role play. I think it has potential for being great fun, but I need a scripter to help with it. Once we get it done, I will spend a lot of time playing it. Sooz |

Also some of the larger yacht clubs even offer free sailing lessons. I can teach you too, for free. The only boats I'm really familiar with are the Trudeau yachts, but hey, if you're going to sail, might as well sail the best right? Sooz

| Where I live, Watchman, is open to the public. You can rez a boat on the pier, there are also free boats rezzers. You can use the two helipads as well, for helicopters, or hot air balloons which also is a lot of fun. It is in the Corsica region, and hads planty of open water and air space. There are also some great undersea builds in the area for divers or submarines. |

Business: Abbotts Aerodrome | If you're interested in a good airport to fly from, try Gulliver Airport in Zatzai. It's next to the sailing sims, so it's a good place to take off in an amphibious plane, for example. Apart from my own airport (of course), Gulliver is my fave.

I think I'll start with boats or ships because everything I've ever attempted to drive/fly eventually ends up with me at the bottom of the sea...somehow. I picked up a tiny pirate ship I'm itching to try! ty all for your help!!

![]() One of the things I worked on for a long time, with the help of some very patient friends who thought I might be mentally ill, was aerobatics with the biplane and with someone seated on the top of the plane. They are hard because SL airplanes don't handle like real ones, you generally don't have the instruments you would want for aerobatics, and, like Sooz said, sim crossings can sneak up on you fast and do all sorts of harm. I claim to be the first person to pull of a complete barrel roll inside the greenies house in a biplane. I had to go corner to corner, and pulling out of the roll and into a turn at the end was sketchy, but I did it. The one trick I tried several times and never quite pulled off was to fly upside down, right on the water, and dunk the passenger's head in the ocean. They sit on the top wing, so I have a bit of clearance. I haven't pulled that one off yet, but I've come close.
