If you come to my sim, Kyllie is just south of us in Tsurington. She has the coolest tree house and so help me I have RESISTED the temptation to go in there and look around. That J rock club is a complete eyesore. Oh well.

As far as boat rez places, maybe we can start a list of places to rez boats and/or aircraft. For staters with boats, search for yacht clubs. Most of the major yacht clubs have rez areas, Triumphal, Mowry Bay, Starbourds, Nantuckett and the Nautilus City Yacht Clubs to name a few. So does ZeeWest Marina. Also in Halfhitch Island in the Blake Sea there is one on the South side of the island next to the boat docks. It is tricky to find cause you cant rez from the dock, you have to fly over the water next to the dock to rez.

Would any of you be interested in doing some group flights on the weekends?

Let me know.

Sooz

For airports, search for airports, airfields and aviation. Some let you rez a plane, others don't unless you are a group member.

I'm going to have to pop by when I have some time. The place looks like a lot of fun Sooz.

LL added rez zones on the NE corner of each Blake Sea sim recently, besides all the scattered rez zones established previously such as on Half-Hitch, Spyglass, Windlass, etc. they're plentiful but most are poorly marked if at all.. also, there's docks for boats and seaplanes on Grand Manan, just off of Blake, with an airport up behind it(I don't reccomend the latter for novices, Santa Catalina is good though, as is the airstrip on Honah Lee). Hollykai Two and Three are great places to rez boats as well, basically a giant golf course

You'll have to work on the bomb load on that Corsair, though, Brenda.

I'm looking forward to my computer upgrade so I can actually enjoy sailing. At the moment my draw distance is set so low I don't really see much of anything at all.

If I remember correctly all it took was 1 or 2 well-placed 500 pounders to sink the Akagi.

Mind you, one of the pilots nearly put the nose of his plane into her right behind the bomb (he wanted to be sure he hit so he released low). I'm pretty sure Brenda is that brave - or crazy.

The Yamamoto still holds the record for the largest battleship ever to sail if I am not mistaken.

They were 1,000 pounders. At the Battle of Midway, 3 SBD Dauntless dive bombers from USS Enterprise attacked Akagi. 2 were near misses, but 1 struck near the middle elevator and blew up the upper hangar which containes 18 fully fuled bombers getting prepped to launch. One of the near misses damaged the rudder which jammed a short time later. The ship was evacuated save for damage control personnel who worked through the night to put out the fires. The ship could not be salvaged and was scuttled by torpedoes a couple of weeks later.

At 12:32 on 7 April 1945, Yamato was attacked by a first wave of 280 aircraft from Task Force 58, taking three hits (two bombs, one torpedo).[1] By 14:00, two of Yamato's escorts had been sunk.[5] Shortly afterward, a second strike of 100 aircraft attacked Yamato and her remaining escorts. At 14:23, having taken 10 torpedo and 7 bomb hits, Yamato's forward ammunition magazines detonated.[5] The smoke from the explosion—over 4 miles (6.4 km) high—was seen 100 miles (160 km) away on Kyūshū.[28] An estimated 2,498 of the 2,700 crew members on Yamato were lost, including Vice-Admiral Seiichi Itō, the fleet commander.[

looking at that page I see the Yamato should just fit in a sim, its listed as being 256M at the waterline.

are there any full sized american or british war ships in SL anywhere?

they are interesting model projects for sure.

Yamato's main battery consisted of nine 46 cm/45 Type 94 naval guns—the largest caliber of naval artillery ever fitted to a warship. Each gun was 21.13 metres (69.3 ft) long, weighed 147.3 metric tons (162.4 short tons), and was capable of firing high-explosive or armour-piercing shells 42.0 kilometres (26.1 mi).
There was a PBS show I saw about John Harrison (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrison) that built an accurate clock that could reliably function aboard a ship. This made accurate navigation a lot more possible but during the show they also touched on firing cannons at a ship from another ship.

When you consider that a ship is being affected by random yaw, pitch and roll, being moved randomly in all six possible directions and trying to hit a ship also moving it is a wonder anyone ever hit anyone.

In a modern ship, given that you know exactly where your target is, how fast it is moving and in what direction, exactly where you are and exactly how fast you are moving and in what direction, the mathematics of aiming your guns is still crazy complex.

Operation Ten-Go was a deliberate suicide attack against American forces off Okinawa by Yamato and nine escorts, beginning on 6 April 1945. Embarking from Kure, Yamato was to beach herself near Okinawa, and act as an unsinkable gun-emplacement—bombarding American forces on Okinawa with her 18.1-inch heavy-guns. Yamato carried only enough fuel to reach Okinawa
what a waste of lives. to bad commanders never seem to get convicted of war crimes against thier own troops.

I use to fly a good bit in SL but mostly what I had was more sci-fi type vehicles. At one time I even had a few boats and at least one Jet Ski. I haven't been in SL in quite awhile so I'm not sure which vehicles I still have.
