OMG... this makes me SO happy that we're "too small a market" for a Walmart...

But, I did find a favorite...

Yet another way to feel superior by looking for people who we feel might be lesser than thou. Now that you have all pointed and laughed at the monkeys do you feel yourself a higher being? Or just mean and cruel that you stooped to this level?

Do you feel superior now that you've snarled at the monkeys populating this forum and consider yourself a higher being? Or is it just that time of the month again?

Come on Viv, that is a bit much. It is not from laughing at the person because you think you are superior, but because people are funny. I love this picture:

No offense Viv, but in the almost 10 years I worked at the hellpit that puts its employees last, these are the best of the worst. It's sad but true.

I got linked to this the other day - I think some are funny, and not in a 'I'm superior' way, but because it's a unique way to get hits on YouTube!

the pictures i saw earlier of this were not so... amusing? they were obviously pictures along the same vein of slugly or whatever the name of that site is. But this is even worse than that when what is being done is pictures of a fat woman squeezed into something 2 sizes too tight or hair that's out of control or whatever. Why not go to an asylum and take pics of people drooling or an old folks home -- oh right that would be cruel.

I like the youtube guy and the back the fuck up guy but these were not indicative of the other pics on that site. And the site even says you have to get permission before you can send the pic. Do you really think that lady in the pic that Roxanne posted said yes when someone approached her and asked "hey do you mind if we take your picture in the most unflattering circumstances ever so we can put it on the internet and make fun of your appearance?" Do you really think she was ever asked?

I lost my Walmart virginity in a small Wisconsin town earlier this year. I had to fill a prescription and it was the only option. Waiting for my script to be filled afforded me some fine people watching moments.

I think pointing fingers at people who are different or don't measure up or are 'ugly' is a mean and cruel thing to do. But since you don't and its open season on your pics -- lets see them.

I don't know about the others but, i think she gave permission because you do not get hair that wild and that effect by accident, it takes a little bit work and some talent, its like an av using coke cans for hair rollers inworld.

When my hair is long it will do that easily. It is thick, very curly, very frizzy if I don't put crap in it, and I've had a few bad haircuts in my life. I wouldn't go out in *public* with it looking like that but really it doesn't take much for it to look that wild.

Sure...

that's me on the right if you didn't guess... I especially like the old pictures of me with facial hair. It's such a cute look...

and you can hardly see the "pattern baldness" in this one... that means I must wear wigs these days... Most guys would not feel this was a "bad" picture... but it's not so cute when you feel you're really female... you'll just have to trust me on that.

Did you think I wouldn't post them? There are a lot worse things than feeling "ugly" (which is NOT how I felt about that woman's face & expression, btw)... feeling like you'd almost rather die than see your own face in a mirror again is a feeling I knew for years.

I don't have a digital image available of one of my dearest and least physically attractive friends, so I can't show you how close she is to a twin of this woman. Sadly, I'll never get to see my "fat friend" as she called herself, as she died four years ago.

Suffice it to say that Lori was VERY large, and her face was not the prettiest by "normal" standards. I've never made my friends based on looks... Lori was one of the smartest, funniest, most generous and least attractive people you'd ever have the fortune to know, and I loved her.

When you're a "woman in a man's body" you develop a bit of empathy for the "ugly" ones...

Sorry if my "cutie" remark made you think I was being sarcastic (it's not the first time I've failed to communicate non-sarcasm accurately), but I MEANT that as a complement...

You know I was wondering about that and no I completely misunderstood the cutie remark. You aren't someone I would have pegged as a person who derides other's appearances at all. Especially given your own personal circumstances and I appreciate your candor in revealing over the months. I know its hard to do and that's exactly my point and exactly why, when I see something like this, I speak out against it. I'm sorry to ruin your fun but its just not right to laugh at other people's appearances.

I've been thinking about this since this thread was posted. I suspect that like most people I laughed at some of the pictures and then felt a bit guilty for doing so. Then Viv posted and I felt a bit more guilty for doing so... (because on a less superficial level we all know she is right)

I have always been of the opinion that someone's physical appearance is the least important thing about them. I certainly would not wish to be judged merely on appearance so I don't do it to other people. However, although in my opinion I am well on the way to sainthood I am not quite there yet and one of my failings is that sometimes I find things funny that I really shouldn't. (really sometimes the most inappropriate things).

In my defence it is never malicious, just simply that some things hit my funny bone and there is nothing I can do. My oh so PC self does not have time to get out his clipboard and my socially concious self does not have time to shake his collecting tin before I am laughing like a hyena. I can ponder why at some later juncture but it does not change the fact that I guffawed in the first place.

I am the kind of soft arse that cannot watch the audition stages of x-factor/pop idol/wherevever's got talent or really any kind of reality show because people making a fool of themselves and being publicly humiliated for it really (REALLY) makes me squirm. Even if there is an argument that they put themselves up for it in the first place I can't bear to watch it. It is not enetertainment as far as I am concerned and I hate how it makes me feel.

Unfortunately with the explosion of reality TV and wanna be celeb culture I think we are becoming less questioning of how we see other people or of our reactions to them. It probably does not matter too much on a superficial level but the problems start when we start to feel superior and not have it bother our concience. In that regard the familiarity we feel laughing at those who put themselves out there on reality tv maybe makes us more immune to laughing at others who did not put themselves up ridicule or invite comment at all.

Still I sometimes wonder when I find something inappropriate amusing if I am laughing at the person or at my own worries about my own inadequacies? Am I laughing at the situation or am I recognising that oh so easily I could be in the same situation myself? Or maybe some things are just so outragously funny that I should just lighten up and be thankful that I can still laugh?

So yeah ...... big lassie with big hair .....I nearly pissed meself (and taht was not meant to be sarcastic I really did laugh .....but I also laughed nervously when I looked in the mirror this morning and saw Myra Hindley looking back at me)

For what it's worth, I don't look at people (or that Walmart site, whatever) and laugh at them for being ugly. Someone with an unnattractive face, suffering from obesity or bad hair isn't funny. But, I do snigger at the people who go shopping with their bum crack hanging out, or like that guy with the YouTube jacket.

It doesn't make me a horrible person, it makes me human - like Cris said, people are funny. It's nice if others can be so pure and unjudgmental, but sadly my halo fell off some years ago.

Seriously?

While I'm having trouble loading the page (was the site slashdotted or something?) I have seen a few of the pics by searching stories about the site - so my opinion is based on that.

The HUGE difference between taking photos of people drooling in an asylum or an old folks home and these Walmart pics is that the people in Walmart CHOOSE to go out looking like that.

I'm not talking about weight, frizzy hair, being "ugly", having old clothes or similar things. I mean making the best of what you have to work with, taking some pride in your appearance, having just the basic respect for yourself. These people are NOT doing that.

So the argument that this is an issue of mocking the "different" or those who don't measure up by some nebulous media set standard doesn't hold water. I certainly don't see the way this compares to shooting a puppy for fuck's sake.

It does make me curious why you responded so violently to the post. Normally that kind of anger stems from being mocked for some part of your personal appearance. But again, this isn't about what you can't control. It’s about simple self respect.
