And I don't think Surreal was saying "Agree with me or get out", I imagine it was more along the lines of, "If we're all so awful that you feel the need to constantly correct our behavior, why do you choose to be around us?" If I'm wrong Surreal can clear it up for me, but that was my interpretation.

Out of ten photos on the front page, there is, ONE overweight woman with a badly fitting outfit.

I quoted that they do post people who wear clothes which are embarrassingly too small, or weird. The rest of the people were just average, and a good deal of the photos werent even of people.

It's just a photo blog about what's weird at Walmart... geez louise.

Being in poverty, or perhaps having a mental illness, or quite simply having a bad day are all possible reasons for someone not "respecting" themselves by way of grooming.

Takes a bit of empathy to realize that having "pride in your appearance" might not be on the top of the list when you're struggling to afford clothes/eat or having a really bad manic or delusional day. Not always so simple to look your best.

Empathy.

I shop at Wal-Mart every week. I don't dress up to go to Wal-Mart either .. sweatpants, shorts w/e .. I mean cmon its just Wal-Mart.

I am also not anywhere near "thin" so It would be easy to get an unflattering picture of me.

SO I guess I could end up on this site as someone to laugh at.

I'm commenting in general on judging a book by it's cover, and I'll also say that generally, the older (and crazier, uglier, and fatter) most people get the less funny and entertaining these kind of jokes are. They fall completely flat if you've known homeless people, or fat people who have almost died from getting a lap band, etc.

It's part of my youth I am glad I left behind.

"Empathy" is an interesting concept, and rather fluid in its definition depending on who you ask. I hardly think my expectation that people not walk out of their house fit to scare small children if they can help it means I lack empathy.

But regardless, when people have a mental illness it often shows in their body language and speech as often as in their lack of "grooming". Most of the people I've seen in Walmart in this state of disarray have the "I don't give a shit" disease and that's about it.

Again, poverty and mental illness (in the less extreme forms) simply aren't an excuse to be filthy and half dressed. I've dealt with both in my family and they still managed to keep the basics covered in public. Of course it isn't easy or "simple", but they did it.

I didn't paint with a broad brush and say EVERYONE who walks into Walmart should pretty themselves up or they are worthless sacks of shit. Takes a bit of reading in context to realize that, I suppose.
