Ok, let me clarify the posting of the link. First and foremost the forum was called "omgwtfbbqlba". I would assume this is on topic. I was given the link by a friend from SL and I thought that the pictures were funny. I don't care if someone looks different.. hell I look different. I think I laughed more at the tag lines (like the lifeguard one) than the actual pictures themselves. This was nothing more than something I found amusing and thought I'd pass along. Anyone taking offense to this site needs to lighten up in my opinion or not enter this part of the forum.

Well I hope I did not come across as being pure and unjudgemental .... that is the last thing I am.

For instance, much as I don't like to admit it I am the worlds biggest snob. You would not find me in a Walmart in the first place because wild horses would not drag me in. In the UK we have a budget store called Kwick Save/Somerfield .....and you are as likely to find me in there as you would be to find me at a foot fetish party (and I hate feet).

It is silly and terribly middle class bourgeois but there you go. I know i am lucky that I don't have to take such things as price and feeding a family into consideration like many many other people do and that makes my snobbery even more distasteful but hey ho and all that. People probably laugh at me for it- in fact I KNOW friends do.....and theres the thing.

When we laugh at people and feel oh so superior who is to say they are not laughing right back? You are right people ARE funny ...very funny and maybe as others have said we should not take things as seriously as we do sometimes.

After all I would far rather be laughed at than shouted at

No, you didn't come across as pure and unjudgmental Humps ... I was writing my post, went off to do something else and hit 'submit' without checking the thread, so wasn't replying to anything you said. I agree with most of it, apart from the X Factor auditions

On an unrelated note, I think the Walmart equivalent in the UK is Asda? *shudder* I'm going to get shouted at now by an Asda shopper. But I will not go in one again; it feels dirty in my local one.

Yes Asda here is owned by Walmart and the store here is horrible. Think I've only ever been in twice, just looks like disorganised chaos.

Its not their weight or their attractiveness that is funny.... its the inappropriateness of clothing choice for shopping that is funny

I see 'girls' out all the time with massive gut's on them, wearing belly tops and hipsters, which are punishing even to the fittest of people.

Yes thats funny, if that makes me a bad person, I am a bad person

Talking about laughing inappropriately, I have already mentioned my Grandma this week in another thread. She was a wonderful woman with a mouth like a sewer but NEVER in public. She was a bigger snob than I am. Her father had owned coal barges on the river Mersey which she thought made her awfully grand. In fact she was born on one in the middle of the river as she never tired of telling me!

Anyways, when out and about she always wore gloves (In case she had to touch anyone because you don't know where their hands have been) and always spoke terribly terribly posh. The fact taht she over pronounced her H's gave the game away somewhat but I loved to see her grandly asking someone "Hello Dear ....Hand How Har You "

She had cancer later in life and to her horror lost all her hair. She got a wig and we had to assure her that it did not look at all like a wig. On this particular day I went with her to the market. Everyone knew her and knew she had been poorly and of course they asked how she was . She was so funny offering her gloved hand like the Queen to anyone who approached her. Then she saw someone she knew and made a beeline for them hand outstretched. Except that her wig got caught on the market stall and stayed there as she flounced out
"Hello Doris .....So lovley to see you. How Har You........Arrrggh me fucking Errr. I've lost me fucking Errrr"
I was on the floor helpless with laughter. To make matters worse she came over and started belting all hell out of me with her stick
".....get me Errr get me Errrr. It's not funny .... me bleeding heads cold" which made me ten times worse.

Lest you think I am a total bastard she saw the funny side of it too afterwards and we would titter about it until she died. Strangely a similar thing was to happen with my mum a few years later but was not half as funny.

BTW in case you never heard a scouse accent Errrr = Hair

Yeah, I'll admit that the "worst dressed" of that bunch nearly made my coffee spurt outta my nose... if that's being "bad", I plead guilty as well.

Life is dull when you can't laugh at yourself anymore. I find lots of things amusing in all the cultures I've been in, including American culture. But I guess that's why I like the politically incorrect. Having been in the retail biz as a very young woman, I find it amusing and a snapshot of WHAT MY LIFE WAS LIKE OMGWTF.

It's where I got some of my whacked humor and cynicism about people... like who else but a retail employee would observe how women behave with children in strollers? We called them "kamakazi stroller pilots" ... only a video can quite describe the horror some children must experience in stores!

I find consumer culture absurd and horrific at the same time, in the most funny ways.

"I call it purring, not growling," said Alice.

"Call it what you like," said the Cat.

This is probably why the site is down

People of Wal-Mart - TIME

Big article in Time about it.

Quote:
Because of these ground rules, People of Wal-Mart mostly ridicules folks with bad hairdos, excessive tattoos or ill-fitting clothing. "Look, I'm a big guy," says Adam, "I'm not going to walk around in medium-sized clothes. I'd look like an idiot." By the same token, he figures, you shouldn't wear a Captain America costume, put your goat on a leash or let your pants fall down in public.
Seems like one of the site owners is overweight himself. Shrug... as I said, someone who is capable of laughing at themselves. Nothing evol about it.

Sorry, I can't climb on the PC bandwagon... pretty much all humor is based on the realization of our shared mortality, vulnerability, and silliness. We laugh because it's not happening to us... and we know it could. Every minority and oppressed group has used humor to take control of, understand, and eventually overcome their situation. As my gran used to say, laugh or die.

Here... you can laugh with me at this picture from Flip & Jennyfur's White Trash party.

And yes, that's blue eyeshadow.
