I even have a scripted Gorean houseplant in my inventory somewhere.

Alex gave it to me. She was the first Gorean I really knew in SL.

I've noticed the same thing Solanghe. I'm not sure if I can figure out why. Let me try though. Men tend to be more visual than women. Women can, and often do, fall for people who may not be conventionally attractive. Your original post expressed many of the things women often look for in a partner/love interest - intelligence, humor and an ability to express oneself. Accordingly, in a virtual world like SL, RL appearance and attributes may not be as important as hitting "the big three" expressed above.

Men tend to be more interested in looks and for some reason that frequently transfers to RL looks as well. While we women certainly have a sex drive, often powerful, its different from a male sex drive. Men generally want to "get it on" and the seemingly [to them] interminable conversations before the act and the intimate cuddling afterwards are merely distractions at best, annoyances at worst. That's why they often go to sleep afterwards in RL or "poof" afterwards in SL. To us, the preludes and postludes are as important or nearly as important as "the main event."

Part of it too is "the hunter instinct" which seems to be hard wired into that pesky Y chromosome all too often. Men seem to be almost contantly on the prowl in both RL and SL for sex partners. This IS a broad generalization of course, and is not true of many men. It therefore is part of their "hunting" thing to try to asscertain potential sex partners by inquiring, frequently all to soon, about age, location, looks, marital status etc. of people they meet even in SL.

On the gender issue, men have been socialized towards homophobia more than women. The very thought that they could be making pixel love to a HOT AV who actually has [shudder] a penis in RL gives them the willies. There is a higher percentage of women who, while they may only attracted a specific set of genitalia, don't get terribly upset over the idea that an attractive AV may have a differnt set of "goodies" in RL. This is NOT meant to imply whatsoever that those who are seeking an interesting AV with the same RL genitalia as displayed in SL are wrong, prejudiced, mean or foolish.

Different people have different expectations and there is no real wrong or right, so long as deliberate meanness doesn't come into play.

Like Coyote said none of them would be so accommodating if a guy in a female avatar went HEY IT'S JUST SL WHAT'S THE PROBLEM? so the hypocrisy is ridiculous.
I think it's worth mentioning (and someone probably already did) that the setting in question is a group of mostly straight men using female avatars to hook up with each other. That means there isn't any hypocrisy involved, since they clearly are willing to hook up with an avatar being played by another guy.

Thank you! I gotta say, I was stunned when I found out how huge Gor was in SL. Of all the things for people to seize on, wtf?

I can't believe how much attention that parody's gotten. Not bad for half an hour's typing and giggling.

actually, the straight cisgendered males playing female avs for "kicks" seem to have a great deal of homophobia and often seem to be ones more likely to have "Women only!!!!!111" in their profiles.

the trans bisexual ones such as myself, i believe sooz, and others are the ones most likely to totally not care about involvement with a female av played by a biological male, in my experience
