Play WoW? You're Going to Hell!

Heart of Wisdom Blog » A Christian View of World of Warcraft

Quote:
The Bible is clear that casting spells is an abomination to God. Those who practice witchcraft (sorcery) will not inherit the kingdom of God. These practices are anti-God and are in rebellion against Him.

.....Some Christians play WoW and feel it is harmless. I have talked to some of them that look at me like I’m off my rocker for even considering there is something wrong with this game.

.....Is it OK to play a game about casting spells? Gamers aren’t really casting spells. They are only humans, not priest or warlocks, and they only direct the character that they have chosen to go through an adventure casting spells.

Let’s look at in from another view. Adultery is a sin, is it OK to pretend to practice adultery (virtual sex)? Homosexuality is a sin, is it OK to pretend to practice homosexuality (virtual sex)? Murder is a sin, is it OK to pretend to practice murder (video games)?

....Anything we spend time doing to the point of putting aside Bible study and prayer should be a signal to us that there is a problem.
Then I don't get the whole concept about "freewill" we were taught in (a private/catholic) school after reading this:

Quote:
“It matters to God how we use our time. It is something which He has given us. We don’t own it. We are responsible to manage it for Him. It doesn’t mean we must always work. Part of our time should be used in recreation and rest, the development and enjoyment of relationships. But we must be aware of how we use our time, and use it wisely” (Max, Anders 30 Days to Understanding the Bible).

Wait! If they play WOW their souls will be sent to SL (hell)? I had no idea that the Lindens had struck a deal with Satan and God to franchise hell! It does explain some Linden behavior lately though.

Christians who play WoW go to Hell. Christians who play Left Behind: Eternal Forces go to Heaven.

Quote:
Left Behind: Eternal Forces is a real-time strategy game for Microsoft Windows by Left Behind Games.
The player joins a Christian organization (known as the Tribulation Force) who are fighting the forces of the Antichrist (known as the Global Community Peacekeepers, loosely modeled on the United Nations Peacekeepers). The game is based on the evangelical Christian Left Behind series of books.
The player is able to direct the actions of the main characters (Rayford Steele, Cameron "Buck" Williams, Chloe Steele, and Bruce Barnes) in their efforts to counter Antichrist Nicolae Carpathia. The game was released in the United States on November 14, 2006, and received a somewhat mixed if not negative reception from critics.[1]

See, this is why I'm slowly converting my family to WoW. My son and one daughter and my nephew play. That way when I go to hell, they'll all be there!

oh. wait...

I've been a D&Der since I was 9. My position in Hell was reserved a long time ago. Might as well have fun before I get there!

My sixth grade teacher warned us against D&D way back in the day for exactly the same reason. Needless to say it only increased the attraction.

It just drives me crazy that this type of thinking leads to Harry Potter being one of the most frequently challenged books in schools, to the makers of The Golden Compass running scared, etc. etc. I know, I know... you've all moaned about it before, I'm sure. But it makes me clench my teeth and get all grrrrrrrrrrr

Of course you're going to hell. I've known that since tom hanks went loony in Mazes & Monsters.

but at least you'll be in good company, standing right next to the shaven men, women who have cut their hair, and anyone who's eaten shellfish.

Personally, I find WoW boring enough to actually *be* hell. My son lasted a month before he stopped logging in. Roblox though...he can't get enough of.

/me finds the process of "leveling up" to be almost as much fun as watching mud dry! But in fairness it's not just WOW that bores me, it's any game based on war/fighting.

Of course there are computers in hell...it's just that the geeks aren't allowed to touch them and, in fact, have to do phone support for the poor technophobes who have been chained to their workstations for eternity.
