My Mood: | Would you recommend where you live? With my marriage to Mrs Ming (she found the climate on Mongo too acidic....) approaching its end, I'm giving serious thought to packing up and getting the hell out of Dodge. I've been in/around the Albany area all my life, and I seriously need to go somewhere else and be someone else for a while. (No, SL doesn't count.) That said, people here on SLU live all over the goddamn place. I'm looking for recommendations in the USA for places to move. (I know the economy sucks. That'll make it tough, but... well, I have some pretty stupid luck and am pretty hearty. Once the bombs drop, it'll be me and the cockroaches battling it out for supremacy...) Would your home town be worth moving to? Why? Can I crash on your couch? ![]() |

My Mood: | I've been in Chicago since 97 and have been happy - a lot of people actually live downtown among the tall buildings so it's not completely deserted like some cities are - but there are tons of neighborhoods surrounding the city with beautiful tree-lined streets etc - as I said, I like it ![]() Public transportation has its usual stupidity, but mostly works, home prices are going down, and you can look up places to rent in the Chicago Reader (best source of rental listings). I pretty much lived my first 3 years not having to drive anywhere and not really having to go very far for anything I needed. As to a couch - I have to apologize - the hubby does not easily trust "people on the internet" so I have a feeling that would not fly ![]()

SL Join Date: '04 '06. | That depends on what you're after: hustle and bustle or a quieter neighbourhood. Our neighbourhood is half and half, with clubs, restaurants, close proximity to Dallas proper, lots of parks, lots of open space and a 9 - 5 population so it's peaceful except Friday / Saturday nights. Oh, and we have a kickass cultural scene here. Then again, it's Texas and the chances of you moving here are remote. You could still crash on our couch, though. ![]()

| I'll slip in and promote Philly before Flip gets here. Economy is in good shape and broad enough to survive downturns in industries or market segments. Housing is affordable and public transit goes just about anywhere. People are mostly pretty laid back. Very diverse cultural scene.. and you're close to NYC or DC if you have the urge for quick out of town trips via train. There are a bunch of us here, so couch time is pretty much assured. |

Can I play with your land?
| I like Kent Ohio, but I've lived in the same area since shortly after birth so I don't have much to compare it to. It's a college town, lots of food places, laundry mats, everything you need is pretty close. Schools rock. It's also pretty safe here I think. Weather is the best and worst of both. Cold snow filled winters, hot hot summers, and everything in between. I guess I'd say it's an ok place to live. Not the best, not the worst. Just depends what your looking for. If given the chance to up and go where ever I'd probably go to Canada myself, its just not realistic for us at this time of our lives. |

My Mood: | I've lived in Philly my whole life, but traveled the world extensively and live (briefly - up to six months) in other locations. I keep coming back. I'm more guilty of recommending Philly as a great place to live than anyone. Just ask Surreal, I talked her into it - and she hasn't left since. ![]() Regards, -Flip

My Mood: | sadly, i'm a San Diego baby, I'll be cooooold. If I had children I'd live in San Diego. The beach is fun and free. Lots of outdoor activities. A bit more conservative. San Francisco also has nightlife, great restaurants, full of liberal freaks, and if you will....Linden Labs. |

My Mood: | Salt Lake City is a pretty great place, much to my surprise. I moved here, from San Francisco, two years ago. I was pretty scared to move here, 'cuz you know, the whole Mormon thing. But contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be Mormon to live here. And not everyone here is Mormon. There's bars here too! OMG! There's a large tech industry thriving here, tons of jobs, it's not too crowded, and I can actually afford a house out here, as opposed to my native Bay Area in California. If you're outdoorsy, this place is outdoor Mecca. Twelve awesome ski resorts are a half hour away. Mountain biking, rock-climbing galore, etc. It does get really hot in summer and it freezes and dumps tons of snow in winter, if you're into that. ![]() |

My Mood: | I live in what I think is the greatest city in the world, New York, but I'm totally biased. Being from Albany I'm sure you already know all you need to about the big apple. Good luck and I hope you find the city of your dreams. (and I don't own a couch)

My Mood: | As far as Midwest Cities you can’t forget Indianapolis. Okay maybe you can but I still feel its worth a look. It’s clean, easy to get around and the economy and housing is in decent shape compared to some of the other cities. I’m on the north side and its seen some respectable growth. In fact Fishers IN, one of the north suburbs was rated 10th best place to live by Money Magazine. Heh. I have teenagers. You’d have to fight them for the couch.

My Mood: | Arkansas is pretty awesome depending on the area you're in. Everything is natural and clean (mostly depending on where you land) and the economy is what you make of it. Cost of living is cheap in comparison to big city areas and many cultures come together in the more eclectic areas like Hot Springs or the River Market in Downtown Little Rock. Google Eureka Springs. I'd move there in a minute myself if I had a reason other than want to. Eureka Springs, Arkansas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It's a beautifully historical city. |

My Mood: | I fled The City 4 years ago and wound up in Morris County, NJ, near Dover. It's lovely, lots of green, Mountains *at least by Jersey standards*, lakes all over the place. it can be a bit pricey, and taxes are somewhat high. While Jersey may be a Blue State, Morris is a very Red County It is 90 minute train ride into New York, and I'm about 40 minutes from the delaware Water Gap and the Poconos. All in all , I love it here, and don't regret the move. |
