My Mood: SL Join Date: October '06 | So I went back to try dialing the number, but got number busy or no answer. So I went back and scanned the 408 area code 3 times. I never got the same phone number that produced a login for yall. I noticed the second scan resulted in only two numbers, so I dialed the first one and got a login. It was 408-506-7851. This was last night, that number isn't working for me today either. Assume we have to get the number from the wardialer before it will work. I noticed that anything entered for the password would work (tried just random letters). At the prompt of "do you want to play a game", I couldn't get it to do anything further until I typed in Global Thermonuclear War (is that what you guys entered? Maybe if another phrase is entered, we get a different outcome.) Then I got the same text and image. http://www.shanti-is-coming.com/c64/defcon1.jpg **edit - defcon3 is no longer up**So I decided to see if there were other defcon levels. I found defcon3. Just change the 1 in the url to 3. ![]() No idea what any of that means yet. Last edited by Ili Roviana; 08-05-2008 at 06:18 PM. Reason: trying to fix image |

My Mood: SL Join Date: October '06 | I did this in my earlier post but the image isn't showing up. Trying again. **edit Bah. Ok shanti has taken down defcon3, so apparently he didn't want us to find it this way, or didn't intend for it to be used. Sorry Shanti. |

| Cat dead. Details later. ![]() ![]() | Well... I clicked the counter down to -1, and the next number was just 1; and now it's counting back up. I have noticed, however that the lolShanti (if you will) appeared at -11, -33, and now at 11 and at 33...and at 55. The 'splat' appears on even numbers, and the Shanti image on odd numbers. |

Business: Psyke's Defence Systems Blog Entries: 3 | yeh last night I took it down to about -300 just for fun. it started dropping in about increments of 5 .... new clues??? Could be a message in numbers. Oh and I want to point out that the WarGames message implied that shanti was not SLCC spefically. This hair splitting implied to me that we will learn what shanti is at SLCC, Sept. 6th |

SL Join Date: June 2006 | New line:We all draw inspiration from somewhere. Possibly there is more about 1983 that we need? Almost all of the clues point to 1983, in one form or another. Another possibility is the images, is there anything that links all of them? Good night. |

Linden Lab’s continued push toward an open architecture, third party efforts like OpenSim and LibOMV, open content like Creative Commons in SL, The Avaverse, New Media Consortium, and the founding of the Open Metaverse Foundation (OMF) are just some of the exciting developments in open technology in recent years. This track focuses on these cutting edge open technologies that represent the future of SL, and the new social dynamics that will arise from them. (showing my personal bias here ) |

Business: Psyke's Defence Systems Blog Entries: 3 | Shanti is open Open Source? Open protocols? maybe the open protocol is called shanti? Peace comes from release? No more questioning because now the standards are open? Order in chaos. Although this doesn't seem related to 1983 unless they mean revolutionary software... what's that word Mitch likes? Disruptive technology? Lotus 1-2-3... Last edited by Psyke Phaeton; 08-05-2008 at 08:54 PM. |

![]() When I said "megalomaniac" I didn't mean to imply Richard Stallman...but...1983 was indeed the start of the GNU... Plans for the GNU operating system were made in 1983 by Richard Stallman, founder of the Free Software Foundation. In September of that year, Stallman published a manifesto in Dr. Dobb's Journal detailing his new project publicly, and outlining his vision of free software. Software development work began in January 1984. GNU was to be a complete Unix-like operating system composed entirely of free software. By 1991, the GNU mid-level portions of the operating system were almost complete, and the upper level could be supplied by the X Window System, but the lower level (kernel, device drivers, system-level utilities and daemons) was still mostly lacking. The GNU kernel, GNU Hurd, was still in its infancy. The Hurd followed an ambitious design which proved unexpectedly difficult to implement and has only been marginally usable. For those of you that dun know this, GNU was the predecessor to "Open Source", but there is a long history of issues with what you call this movement, which can be read about here if you care to follow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU/Linux_naming_controversy The GNU/Linux naming controversy is a dispute among members of the free and open source software community about how to refer to the computer operating systems commonly called "Linux". I'm pointing this out only to link the 1983 GNU with the Open Source concept you've mentioned, which I hate hate hate to admit seems to have some (actually a busload) of merit in this discussion...

My Mood: SL Join Date: Originally June 5, 2007 | Yeah what really sucks here is that I, of all the bitching a-holes who have been trashing this "ko'an"/game/whatever, turned out to be the one that knew the GNU/Open Source link, only because Psyke had presented the evidence for it right there without unfortunately knowing enough GNU/Open Source history to make the connection. I truly, truly don't deserve to have been the one to put in such a major puzzle piece. I should however have guessed this long ago given how clearly Shanti is screaming "OPEN SOURCE" in both his actions and words. I come from this community. I should have known... Fuck me running with a chainsaw. |

Business: Illusions: Masks and Unique Accessories | Well... if it has anything to do with open source and linux I'm out then. My geek cred only goes as far as the culture ![]() Random side note (or Randoym side note?) my father ran into Richard Stallman on the subway.. he said he was kind of rude but my father gives a mild stalker vibe so I wouldn't be surprised if he was a little freaked out by a fangeek like him, lol.
