Hm it's not a timed countdown, it only decreases for me when I reload the page. Is that what's happening for you?

Hash, is a 'leftover' of a key, usually.
In this case you can say i have the key, i have no idea how to use it.
But it's progress.

I tried that a bit, but it's one of those things where "17" could be 17, 1 and 7, ect... And even so, with only 26 letters, yeah it's FDAEA... or FDQO... so Vaalith's idea of it being a hash seems like our best bet to me.

Precisely.
This game is not meant as a guesswork,
the only thing you need to more or less guess are the steps.

Now the only thing is.. i know MD5 hashes,
hell i've dealt with some and i'd recognize it instantly.

But this.. i've only found one link about substitution
decryption with hash values and it wasn't of much help.
