Well...made it through, and it pretty much went like Veng said it would "OK, we're putting something into your IV......" two seconds later, I opened my eyes in the recovery room. Hand feels great atm, still numb from the anesthetic tho

Vicodin is getting filled now, so I'm self medicating in the meantime (was smart enough to roll a bunch of umm...cigarettes beforehand).

Thanks for all the good vibes folks...it really helped.

See ya in Tampa!

The thing that really fucked up my wrists is when they released Doom 3 and Half Life 2 within months of each other. Wrist braces are the only things that keep me functioning these days.

Just got back from getting the stitches out and cast off, I have a removable splint on it now...and best of all, I got to wash my hands and shower like a normal person
Prognosis looks good, got 6-8 weeks of stretching and stuff before I can think of strengthening, then I'll think about guitar...still plan on playing inworld before the end of the year...I'll keep y'all informed.

Dude! Sounds like good news!

Hey, I don't know you at all, save from reading your forum posts over the last year or two, but...

One of my friends is a very fine guitarist, many albums to his name and lots of sideman experience. A good number of years ago, at the height of his hot-shot chops, he toured and recorded with Chick Corea. The massive amount of playing wreaked havoc on his left arm, and he had to give up playing for quite a while, and took a couple years to come back. It was close to a career-ending injury, but he is back in top form. If it is of interest, PM me and I'll see if I can find out any info from him wrt his particular path to rehab and back into playing.

For the moment, though, great to hear the news. Do take it slooow - rushing a recovery is never a good thing.

Great to hear that man and I know it must feel alot better than that bulky cast you had on. It was great to meet you in person too!

Hey Look! Another wrist update!

Well, Leck IMd me last night to check on my wrist, and I realized I hadn't necroed updated this thread in a while, so here ya go

On Sept 30th I was at work and had the brace off for the stretching exercises when I got a phone call. Went to hold the phone to my ear with my shoulder when I felt a tweak, let out a yelp, hung up, and woke up about a minute later with my head on my desk, and I was having trouble lifting my arm. Went home, called the Dr. who prescribed me codeine and said don't take the brace off til next week (my followup appt), and no more stretching. Codeine ended up knocking me out for the next 4 days, so the wrist got a lot of rest

I saw The Dr. on the 7th, and he was thrilled with my progress so far, and not at all worried about my tweak. After taking the brace off for the first time in a week, I had more movement than I had before the tweak, and less pain. He told me to start weaning myself off the brace so it's completely off by Nov 4th, and start lifting 1lb weights and squeezy ball / elastic around the fingers type stuff. As of now I'm up to 2lbs, a "stiffer" squeezy ball and the brace is on for about 2 hours a day plus about 3 hours while I'm sleeping (I've been waking up in the middle of the night and taking it off for about 3 hours).

By Friday things were feeling so good I had to try a chord. Just one And I actually did it. Picked up the guitar, played one chord, and put it down. Saturday, a different chord. Sunday, two chords in a row. Monday, almost a whole song, Tuesday 5 minutes, Wednesday 8 minutes, Thursday I rested and last night I played two full songs for a total of almost 15 minutes. Toying with the idea of trying again today, but I'll prolly give it a rest.

I'm still shooting for playing inworld again by the end of the year...It'll probably be ready sooner but I need to make sure I can do an hour with zero pain. Playing hasn't actually hurt yet, but Monday and Tuesday I stopped because I was getting clues that it was probably going to start hurting if I kept going, and yeah, the wrist has been a little tired when I finish playing. I need to get past that, but it's not even halfway between my surgery and New Year's...so I got time

See ya soon!

Sounds like you're making great progress there.

Have you heard of powerballs? they're great for exercising arms and wrists (and damn addictive too).
