| Big drop this week , largest fall of the year with a net loss of 116 regions , its the biggest weekly loss since Nov 2013 . Private estates were down by 39 while Linden Owned dropped by 77 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 24076 ( 16902 private estates & 7174 Linden owned) 16 new regions were added and 15 returned to the grid, with 147 regions removed (9 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) The bulk of this weeks losses were down to the removal of the 80 Linden Lab Horizon Development and QA regions , following last week's launch of the live Horizon regions. But good news is Mont Saint Michel is back Adult rated regions were down in number by 30 to 5360 (22.3% of the grid) while General rates were down by 8 to 2996 (12.4%) YTD Private Estate net losses now stand at 873 (4.9% loss) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

Private estates were up by 8 while Linden Owned were up by 3 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 24087 ( 16910 private estates & 7177 Linden owned) 28 new regions were added and 16 returned to the grid, with 33 regions removed (9 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) 9 private estate regions centered on Wild River Woods arrived this week. | Happy New Year everyone Last week the grid expanded by 27 regions though this was all Linden owned (up 36) with Private Estates down by 9 - this leaves the grid at 24002 regions for the start of a new year Total number of Main Grid regions is now 24002 ( 16783 private estates & 7219 Linden owned) 11 new regions were added and 44 returned to the grid, with 28 regions removed (6 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) The main gain this week was the return of the 35 Linden HR Build regions Adult rated regions showed a significant increase of 83 this week , to 5434 (22.6% of the grid) while General rated were down by 6 to 2930 (12.2%) So another year gone and another year of a slow decline in private estate regions - total net loss for 2016 was 992 (5.6% down on the beginning of the year) - higher than 2015's net loss of 825 regions(4.4% down). Overall the whole grid was down by 884 regions, the drop in private estates mitigated by a smaller growth in Linden Owned regions (+109 regions)  Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| January 2017 Private Estate Survey Its been a while since the last Private Estate survey which was in May last year These results are based on a sample of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions designed to estimate Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. Summary: Overall distribution of Region types is only a little changed from last survey. Tier has dropped to at just under US$3M for the month. Additional monthly revenue from 30K Prim Full is ~US$18K. The key results are as follows: Full Regions : 2224 Homestead Regions: 1759 Openspace: 25 Closed to Public :992 Of the 4008 accessible regions , 55.5% are Full Regions, 43.9% are Homesteads and 0.6% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.34% and +/-0.21% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. The percent of Full Regions is up 0.5% in share and Homesteads are down 0.6% in share since March with Openspaces up 0.1% .All non-significant changes During this period Private estates had a net loss of 661 Regions to a total of 16769 representing an overall decline of 3.9% since May 2016 . The proportion closed to public access was up from 18.6% to 19.8%. 2 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) included in the sample this time, but no Developed Homestead was sampled. Again as with all previous surveys this is too small penetration to estimate total number. 21 of the sampled full regions were Skill Gaming designated ones (0.5% of Private Estate Regions). 149 of those sampled have been upgraded to the upper 30,000 prim region capacity Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is now US$2,970,000 +/- US$44,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), down on May 2016's estimate of US$3,162,000 (-3.4%) The % fall is less than the fall in regions over teh same period implying any loss is more amongst Homestead rather than Full regions. The top 20 landowners currently control 48.8% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This is up (1%) from may and using list prices their holdings account for 43.9% of total private estate tier The figures for the top 10 landowners are 35.2% (+/- 1.2%) of regions and 30.2% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 37.9%/62.0%/0.1% and 42.3%/57.6%/0.1% for the top 20 The Top 20 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
Total known ACS holdings come to 16.8%. (17.2% in May 2016) The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.7% for the largest down to +/- 0.3% for the smallest so some of the ranking especially between 11th and 20th place may be slightly off. These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 16769 private estates on the grid on 14th January 2017. The actual surveying took place between 14th & 15th January 2017. A further 11 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. |

| On a sadder note I've had to start to block objects which make excessive calls to the Gridsurvey.com API . If people are using this free service please ensure your scripts only call the API when they really need to .Statistics and Region Maps available through the API are relatively static, changing once a day at most (maps now only once a week) so cache the results of calls to keep things to a minimum.
