| Its Sunday and UK's X Factor just got close to jumping the shark by putting up the only two acts with real talent to be voted off, In other news the Grid lost 57 regions this week, with Private Estates bearing the brunt of losses , down 56 whilst Linden owned dropped by 1 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28383 ( 21278 private estates & 7105 Linden owned) 45 new regions were added and 12 returned to the grid, with 119 regions removed (21 were renamed and 3 came and went since last report) As in recent weeks there was no noticeable changes in the major estates and the week as a whole was very quiet. Overall private estate net losses for the year to date are 2579 regions  Adult rated regions grew by 44 to 3731 (13.1% of the grid) whilst General rated fell by 22 to 4151 (14.6%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| A net loss of 27 regions this week, Private Estates were down by 25 and Linden Owned by 2 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28356 ( 21253 private estates & 7103 Linden owned) 55 new regions were added and 22 returned to the grid, with 104 regions removed (24 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) Yet again there were no major changes seen in any one estate. Business: Satiated Desires Blog Entries: 1    | I thought I'd just leave a request here for the next time you do the full survey, do you think you could give a breakdown of the numbers of accounts who have 1-4, 5-10, 10-20 and 20+ regions ? I seem to remember you doing a version of this a few years back and it would be interesting to compare it (assuming I can find that post again of course). I'm guessing that the number of smaller/middling owners has dropped, with the middling ones taking the biggest hit percentage wise. ta

Following your request ,however, I've just had a look at the current figures and these confirm my feelings: Apart from the single region estate owners (where we'd expect more variation). the figures are more or less unchanged since 10 weeks ago. | Here is the November 2012 Private Estate Survey results which are based on a sample of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions designed to estimate Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The key results are as follows:
Of the 4314 accessible regions , 56.0% are Full Regions, 43.5% are Homesteads and 0.6% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.32% , +/- 1.32% and +/-0.20% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. Full Regions have gained in share this month by 0.7% at the expense of Homesteads though this change is still within the marging of error. During this period Private estates had a net loss of 142 Regions to a total of 21210 representing a monthly decline of 0.7% , a little less than last months 1.1% loss. The proportion closed to public access was umarginally up on last month at 13.7%. 5 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) were included in the sample this month, though no Developed Homesteads were seen. Again as with all previous months this is too small penetration to estimate total number. 303 of the 18750 (16.2%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is small rise from last months figure of (15.6% ). Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$4,316,000 +/- US$54,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is just down on last month's estimate of US$4,319,000 by $3,000 , a fall of about 0.1% . The top 20 landowners currently control 36.3% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This 0.4% down on last month , using list prices their holdings are up 0.8% to 28.9% of total private estate tier The figures for the top 10 landowners are 27.4% (+/- 1.2%) of regions and 20.1% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). This share for the top 10 is 0.3% down on last months figure of 27.7% of private estate regions. The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 35.8%/64.2%/0.0% and 36.8%/63.2%/0.0% for the top 20 The Top 20 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
The largest change this month was RGF Estates down 0.8% since last month,though Zoha Estate increased by 0.5% share whilst Dreamseeker was down 0.4% share . All other top 20 estate changes were +/- 0.3% or less . The ACS total Share of Private Estates overall grew a little to 12.2%( +/-0.9%) down 0.3%. The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.6% for the largest down to +/- 0.2% for the smallest so some of the ranking especially between 11th and 20th place may be slightly off. These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 21210 private estates on the grid on 30th November 2012. The actual surveying took place on 1st December 2012. A further 14 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing those regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. |

Business: Satiated Desires Blog Entries: 1 | so it appears that there's been a drop over the last 12 weeks of the 3 region estate holders and the 11-20. 11-20 is a 50% drop (although how many that actually is, I couldn't actually work out.. my brain hurts!) My hypothesis is that the smaller ones (below 4) will always be more susceptible to variation simply because they're owner occupiers, shops and the smaller landowners who do it more as a hobby than living it 24/7 (apologies to any of those small landowners if I've maligned you). The bigger land owners have that buffer and that economies of scale bring but the middle ranking are exposed to the economic ups and downs more - not small enough to not have to pay for staff and live it 24/7, yet not quite big enough to be able to weather downturns quite as well as they used to - I would have thought that the no set up freebie offer last year probably hit them hardest and possibly even a small percentage drop in occupancy has more of an impact than with the big ones. Your figures don't give me the baseline of what there was last year around the time of the land sale so I can't really second guess but if you're going to keep doing this going forward then I'll keep my beady eyes on it. I really do need to find better things to do on a saturday night  |

Be careful quoting rounded percentages .The 11-20 group has only changed by 6 estates from 73 in Sep to 67 now and there is no information about what's happened to them. I'd not read too much into the changes over time for any group except the single region owners and the 100+, All the absolute declines in the other categories are fairly equal, it's at the extreme tails where the real polarisation is taking place , with single estate owners disappearing and the large estates staying stable or growing in number. This is still in line with your hypothesis however. | |

Business: Satiated Desires Blog Entries: 1 | 6 estates is somewhere between 66 and 120 regions though. I always assume that the smaller numbers are a disparate group of landholders with differing requirements so you can't really extrapolate much from them as a group - except to say their numbers decline but I doubt you can even say which types of landholders are declining in that group.. a single private use landholder has a different impact when gone to a shop or a rp sim. The larger estate holders are certainly soaking up some of the estates - their hold has gone from around 23% to over 30% in the last couple of years, a lot will have come from them hoovering up the small stuff but also from taking over the midrange. both midrange and large landholders are probably landlords with a fraction of a fraction of a percent of them something else. Do you see where I'm coming from? I'm banging on about declining diversity again... |

Business: Satiated Desires Blog Entries: 1 | Thinking about it a bit more, in the last couple of months, two people I know have offered me their region as they were going to dump it. in both cases they then moved to mainland (one a small rental and the other their 512) and both have pretty well faded from sl since then. I suppose the most interesting thing is that they both went to mainland - one because they were a premium anyway and the other I don't know why. either cost or flexibility I suppose. I would love to get my nose into LLs raw data. sigh |

| This week we saw a net drop of 69 regions with Private Estates down by 56 and Linden owned by 13 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28287 ( 21197 private estates & 7090 Linden owned) 47 new regions were added and 22 returned to the grid, with 136 regions removed (16 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) Weezles Real Estate were down by 8 regions whilst Dreamseeker Estates grew by 9 regions. The 13 Linden Regions which went off line were a mixture of SL work Hubs, SLUX and Destination Island Admin regions. Adult rated regions bucked the overall trend again, growing by 27 regions to 3745 (13.2% of the grid) whilst General rated lost 28 down to 4122 (14.6%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| A net loss of 33 regions this week with Private Estates down by 29 and Linden Owned by 4 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28254 ( 21168 private estates & 7086 Linden owned) 29 new regions were added and 15 returned to the grid, with 78 regions removed (11 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) There were no significant Estate changes detected in what was a very quite week. The total net loss in private estates since January 1st this year is now 2689 , a decline of 11.3%  Adult rated regions managed to increase in number up 7 to 3752 (13.3% of the grid) whilst General rated fell by 22 to 4100 (14.5%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| A net loss of 51 regions this week in Total, Private estates were down by 52 whilst Linden owned grew by 1. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 28203 ( 21116 private estates & 7087 Linden owned) 49 new regions were added and 19 returned to the grid, with 117 regions removed (18 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) The 11 Elf Circle Estate regions went off line this week along with 8 USS regions and 8 Jessica Chung Regions. Azure Islands brought online 7 regions Adult rated regions showed a net growth of 1 region this week, up to 3753 (13.3% of the grid) while General rated fell by 19 to 4081 (14.5%).
