Business: monkey Client: dunno but it keeps crashing all the time | Just as a side note, I believe that Tyche calculated that 464 new sims were bought during the time of that October sale period. After the sale and some fallout, Tyche published for November 6th that there were 24,196 estate sims. Two months later, i.e., Tyche's latest stats, the number of estate sims stands at 23,684. This is a drop of 512 estate sims from the grid in two months. So it seems that any gains made by that special sale a little over two months ago has now been completely eroded. However, it is hard to guess as to what the real motivation of LL was with that special October sale, but I am sure that alienation of the some of the larger land barons was not one of them.

Client: Singularity | What Zeebster said...not everyone who bought a full sim had one before, but there can be a domino effect. For example, a tenant is renting half a sim, which also has a vacant 1/4. They decide to buy their own sim from LL, now the baron is stuck with a 1/4 occupied sim, it makes sense to relocate the remaining tenant and close that sim. Or the tenant buys the full sim, uses half of it and rents the other half to friends at cost to help make tier. Those friends came from the baron's estate, or someone else's. Losing customers when occupancy is already low can push several sims into abandonment, when previously they were making tier or close enough that the baron was giving them more time to fill up.

| The Grid saw a net fall of 65 regions this week. As last week , all the loss was amongst private estates. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30840 ( 23619 private estates & 7221 Linden owned) 102 new regions were added and 24 returned to the grid, with 203 regions removed (17 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) No major estate showed any significant losses this week and several grew in size with Dreamseeker estate growing by 17 regions, whilst Weezles Real Estate (WRE) added 10 and Jessica Chung Estate added 9. Business: The Bot Zone Client: Snowstorm Blog Entries: 51 | Time to place your bets. I'm guessing a net fall of 67 sims this week. The way I arrived at that number is by almost pure randomness, except I also took into account that usually, the number of sims to fall off the grid at anyone time is usually under 300. Hopefully this advanced formula will help me closely predict today's final results. |

| As it's almost the end of January , it's time for this months Private Estate Survey which is based on a sample of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions selected to estimate Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The results are as follows:
Of the 4270 accessible regions , 57.5% are Full Regions, 42.1% are Homesteads and 0.4% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.34% and +/-0.17% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. There is a noticeable shift towards full regions (up 0.7%) since last months survey. During this period Private estates had a net loss of 544 Regions to a total of 23435 representing a monthly decline of 2.3% , up on last months loss (1.4%). The proportion closed to public access was marginally up by 0.2% on last month at 14.6%. 6 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) and 1 Linden Developed Homestead were included in the sample. Again as with all previous months this is too small penetration to reliably track but 6 developed full regions is the largest amount detected IIRC. 722 of the 1798 (40.2%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is a small but non-significant rise of 0.6% from last months (39.6% ). Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$4,920,000 +/- US$58,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is down on last month's estimate of US$5,006,000 by $86,000 , a significant fall of about 1.8%. This is the first time the monthly tier figure has fallen below US$5 Million since I began the private estate surveys and the margin of error indicates this is a significant finding. The top 20 landowners currently control 31.4% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This 0.5% down on last month , using list prices their holdings represent 26.2% of total private estate tier. The figures for the top 10 landowners are 23.1% (+/- 1.1%) of regions and 18.7% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). This share for the top 10 is 0.1% down on last months figure of 23.2% of private estate regions. The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 36.1%/63.8%/0.1% and 38.0%/61.9%/0.1% for the top 20 The Top 10 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
The biggest changes this week were the RGF Estate down from 5.8% to 5.1% , Their General Manager told me most of the loss was in reaction to the October Private Estate special offer.Dreamseeker Estate and Zoho Islands both showed relatively high percentage growth up from last months share of 3.0% and 2.3% respectively. ACS Estates collectively have the largest share of Private Estates at 8.3%, 0.6% down on last month. The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.6% for the largest down to +/- 0.3% for the smallest, These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . October's list for the Estates in 11th to 20th position (In alphabetical order) is
The smallest of these is about 2/3 the size of the current estate in 10th position The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
There was no noticable shift in hosting class this month Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 23435 private estates on the grid on 28th January 2012. The actual surveying took place on 29th January 2012.A further 7 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing those regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. | This week the Grid fell by 68 regions (not a hard number to predict when gridsurvey.com was showing 66 regions loss to yesterday). All the net loss was amongst private estates. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30653 ( 23433 private estates & 7220 Linden owned) 86 new regions were added and 28 returned to the grid, with 184 regions removed (28 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) The only siginifcant change in estate ownerships this week was Azure Islands increasing by 10 regions. Adult rated regions grew by 24 to 3239 (10.6% of the grid) whilst General rated fell by 38 to 4812 (15.7%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| This week the grid saw a net loss of 101 regions, with Private Estates down by 95 and Linden owned by 6 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30552 ( 23338 private estates & 7214 Linden owned) 182 new regions were added and 35 returned to the grid, with 315 regions removed (27 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) Dreamseeker Estate had a net loss of 47 regions, Richmond Land Management down 15, Fantasyland dropped 14 and Lala Rentals were down 11. There was a lot of coming and going and shuffling in the ACS owned estates and overall their net loss was 10 regions. Adult rated regions continued to grow, up by 32 to 3271 (10.7% of the grid) . | I think this is large estate companies just dumping sims as tenants leave them. I think sl needs to send out a note to the large estate owners to smooth this over. I've actually gone around looking for sims to rent and estates just don't have them, but are happy to preorder. LL should add some incentive for sim retention to those large land holders, or something. |

Business: Faerycat Designs Client: Firestorm | I think LL needs to make it easier to get a sim and to keep one - I know a few people who snapped up a sim and then ended up closing it down again. Seriously - if you cut the tier in half [for everyone] and then made set up match the tier [for private sims], I think more folks would have land. I know I could probably manage to justify 150 a month, but I can't afford 300 a month. Also, some of those drops have been as people close down their stores and shift to marketplace only - and that's been going on for the last three - five months. I don't think its all from that sale. |
