| Overall there was no net change on the Grid this week , though Private Estates had a net decline of 50 regions whilst Linden Owned grew by the same amount. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31410 ( 24337 private estates & 7073 Linden owned) 165 new regions were added and 23 returned to the grid, with 193 regions removed (33 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) The Largest growth this week were 49 additional Linden Home Regions (such as Berkshire) though the ACS owned Azure Islands came a close second having brought on 42 regions. This weeks declines includes ACS's Jessica Chung which dropped 21 whilst Dreamseeker Estate had a net loss of 14 regions and BASE Properties dropped 9 (Though I was told earlier this week that Dreamseeker Estate have taken over the BASE Properties Estate, My Private Estate Survey next weekend should reflect this change) The other significant change this week was the renaming of the Adult Hub regions to more Generic names than Zindra. In related news I'm now reporting Region UUID identifiers on Gridsurvey.com which are available for all publicly accessible regions . | Here are the results of the November Private Estate Survey As with previous months, it's a survey of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions which I use to estimates Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The results are as follows:
Of the 4291 accessible regions , 56.4% are Full Regions, 43.3% are Homesteads and 0.3% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.34% and +/-0.17% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. There is a very tiny shift away from full regions since last months survey. During this period Private estates had a net loss of 109 Regions to a total of 24323 . The proportion closed to public access was dwon by 0.7% on last month at 13.5%. 3 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) and 2 Linden Developed Homesteads were included in the sample. Again as with all previous months this is too small penetration to reliably track but is slightly down on previous months. 753 of the 1790 (40.3%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is a small but non-significant rise of 0.9% from last month (39.4% ). Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$5,063,000 +/- US$60,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is substantially down on last month's estimate of US$5,145,000 by $82,000 , a significant fall of about 1.6%, this leaves monthly tier at about US$11,000 more than September's figure. The top 20 landowners currently control 31.8% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This 0.1% down on last month , using list prices their holdings represent 26.8% of total private estate tier. The figures for the top 10 landowners are 22.7% (+/- 1.1%) of regions and 18.2% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). This share for the top 10 is slightly up on last months figure of 22.5% of private estate regions. The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 37.1%/62.9%/0.0% and 36.1%/63.7%/0.0% for the top 20 The Top 10 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
The biggest movement this week was Dreamseeker Estate's move up by 0.4% (consolidated after taking over the BASE properties estate) whilst RGF Estates droped 0.4% share points. Overall known ACS Estates collectively have the largest share of Private Estates at 9.1%, 0.4% up on last month (though this change is administrative as the smaller Michael Chung Estate was identified). The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.6% for the largest down to +/- 0.3% for the smallest, These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . October's list for the Estates in 11th to 20th position (In alphabetical order) is
The smallest of these is about 1/2 the size of the current estate in 10th position The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
The was a small shift towards Class 7 Hosting of about 2% Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 24323 private estates on the grid on 25th November 2011. The actual surveying took place on 25th & 26th October 2011.A further 5 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing those regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. I would also add that this is the first ever time the Survey of all 5000 regions was completed in a single pass with no need to relog my survey bots. A year ago during once of the worst times it I was having to relog every 100 or so teleports, now its about every 2000 on average with this survey being a new record. Generally over the past 6 to 9 months Teleporting has become much less error prone and LL have made succeeded in improving my surveybot's lives - Thank you . |

| This week the grid contracted by 43 regions, Private Estates had a net loss of 82 whilst Linden Owned grew by 39 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31367 ( 24255 private estates & 7112 Linden owned) 86 new regions were added and 14 returned to the grid, with 146 regions removed (14 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) Most of the private estate loss was psread right across estates with only Bell Estates removing any substantial amount (11 Regions) . The Linden Lab growth was priamrily 3 new Linden Realm islands which arrived on Sunday totalling 36 regions. Breakdown of Host Server Classes by Ownership:

| The last couple of weeks have seen Linden region growth close to Private Estate decline but I suspect it's coincidental Last weeks 50 Linden home regions were just before a new 50% off premium membership offer and I'd hazard a guess that yesterday's doubling of Linden Realms is a precursor to further Linden Realms promotion (or they are proving more popular tha the lab expected) |

On Wednesday, that number dropped from 488 to about 380. Today it is about 377. These estate sims are Homesteads and Full Prim sims altogether. Most of these sims are leased out by the land barons. Whenever there is a huge drop like that, it means something. I do not look at the details of hundreds of sims in order to determine who owns what and where they are or where they went. Tyche and her survey bots are good at doing that. I just look at the numbers, as they are easy to count - 100 listings per page. It takes me all but one minute to find out where the numbers are. This drop would not necessarily reflect many of those new sim estate sims and their owners coming online about a month ago cancelling their sims, since few of those people put their sims up for lease in search. In other words, when all those new sims came online, 464 in total I believe, there was no huge upsurge in entire sims for lease at any given time and no gradual upswing either over the last month. When there are huge upsurges or "downsurges" in sims for lease, in a short period of time like this, it is usually one or more land barons having this kind of impact. | |

| This week the grid grew by 17 regions in total however Private Estates fell by 92 whilst Linden owned grew by 109 regions Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31384 ( 24163 private estates & 7221 Linden owned) 202 new regions were added and 37 returned to the grid, with 220 regions removed (32 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) The weeks Linden growth was driven by new Linden Realm regions, 9 new islands clusters of 12 regions each along with 4 Portal regions for a total of 112 fresh regions.The main losses amongst private estates were Dreamskeer Estate down 29 and Richmond Land Management down 11 . Dreamland ACS was also down 11 but other ACS estates grew to replace this decline. Breakdown of Host Server Classes by Ownership:

| This week we saw a 108 region drop on the grid with privates estates down 27 and Linden owned down 81 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31276 ( 24136 private estates & 7140 Linden owned) 79 new regions were added and 21 returned to the grid, with 207 regions removed (24 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) The main change this week was the closure of 84 Linden Realm regions, There was very little change in estates though Jewel Islands closed 12 regions whilst the Diamond estate grew by 9 Breakdown of Host Server Classes by Ownership:

My Mood:  SL Join Date: 11/22/2008 | It may have skipped Tyche's noticing since the sims didn't move or get renamed, but Dreamseeker was up 51 this week whilst Rockhopper was down an equal amount. Thex, feeling flush, spent the weekend in Las Vegas at Caesar's Palace laughing hysterically at the statue of Atlas and that huge weight he carries on his shoulders. | A net fall of 50 regions this week, with private estates shrinking by 49 and Linden owned losing 1 region Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31226 ( 24087 private estates & 7139 Linden owned) 59 new regions were added and 17 returned to the grid, with 131 regions removed (23 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) A very quiet week overall with no significant comings and goings amongst private estates detected. I should add that these weekly surveys are designed to highlight regions coming and going on the grid and are not about changing ownership, that is normally covered in my monthly private estate surveys published near of each month. | A very Merry Christmas Day update from Tyche and her Elven surveybots,  This week we saw a net growth of 10 regions this week but private estates were down 73 whilst Linden Owned were up 83 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31236 ( 24014 private estates & 7222 Linden owned) 55 new regions were added and 102 returned to the grid, with 143 regions removed (19 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) Most of this weeks Linden gains were the return of 6 Linden Realm continents , totalling 84 regions (they had appeared briefly two weeks ago). Adult rated regions grew by 3 to 3234 (10.4% of the grid) whilst General rated increased by 72 to 4991 (16.0%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:

| Here are the results of the December Private Estate Survey which is based on a sample of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions selected to estimate Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The results are as follows:
Of the 4282 accessible regions , 56.8% are Full Regions, 42.9% are Homesteads and 0.3% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.34% and +/-0.16% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. There is a very tiny shift away from full regions since last months survey. During this period Private estates had a net loss of 344 Regions to a total of 23979 representing a monthly decline of 1.4% (though a small fraction of these loss is due to moving the timing of the survey from the 25th to the 31st of the month). The proportion closed to public access was up by 0.9% on last month at 14.4%. 2 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) and 3 Linden Developed Homesteads were included in the sample. Again as with all previous months this is too small penetration to reliably track but more or less the same as last month. 722 of the 1835 (39.6%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is a small but non-significant fall of 0.7% from last months (40.3% ). Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$5,006,000 +/- US$60,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is down on last month's estimate of US$5,063,000 by $57,000 , a significant fall of about 1.1% The top 20 landowners currently control 31.9% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This 0.1% up on last month , using list prices their holdings represent 26.9% of total private estate tier. The figures for the top 10 landowners are 23.2% (+/- 1.1%) of regions and 18.4% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). This share for the top 10 is up on last months figure of 22.7% of private estate regions. The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 35.5%/64.5%/0.0% and 37.0%/63.0%/0.0% for the top 20 The Top 10 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
The biggest movement this week was Dreamseeker Estate's move up by 0.4% (consolidated after taking over the Rcokhopper estate) whilst RGF Estates also grew by 0.4% share points. Overall known ACS Estates collectively have the largest share of Private Estates at 8.9%, 0.2% down on last month. The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.6% for the largest down to +/- 0.3% for the smallest, These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . October's list for the Estates in 11th to 20th position (In alphabetical order) is
The smallest of these is about 2/3 the size of the current estate in 10th position The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
There was no noticable shift in hosting class this month Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 23979 private estates on the grid on 30th December 2011. The actual surveying took place on 31st December 2011.A further 5 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing those regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. To ensure a slightly better estimate of monthly tier rates I have moved the timing of this survey from around the 25th of the month, closer to the end of the month. This better captures the changes in billable inventory of the larger private estates. Now its time for ... A BRIEF END OF YEAR SUMMARY Comparing this survey with the one I conducted on the 24th December last year (New SL Sims in past week) , I'm struck by how little has changed. The biggest change is an overall fall of 879 private estate regions since last year, representing a 3.5% fall in regions. Monthly revenue was also down over the year by about US$167,000 from US$5,173,000 to US$5,006,000 this month, a fall of 3.2%. Other figures are much less significant. The ratio of Full regions to Homesteads is marginally up but not by much (Full region share is now 56.8% vs 56.5% in 2010), 39.2% of homesteads are now ungrandfathered whilst it was only 37% last year. The Top 20 landlords own a tiny bit more of the grid than they did in December 2010 but only marginally, up to 31.9% from 31.0%, and the top 10 landlords last December are nearly all the same players this year. There have been shifts, most noticeably with ACS splitting their holdings amongst 8 or so sub-estates amd Ohana is no longer a major estate, but other than Dreamseeker Estates steady growth this year there is very little change as you can see from the top 10 for December 2010:

| A fall of 158 regions this week,Private Estates seeing the bulk of the fall with a net loss of 157 whilst Linden owned fell by 1 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31078 ( 23857 private estates & 7221 Linden owned) 52 new regions were added and 29 returned to the grid, with 241 regions removed (19 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) The biggest loss this week was 81 Dreamseeker Estate regions, (probably in part rationalisation of their holdings after their takeover of the Rockhopper estate.) Fantasyland also dropped 12 regions whilst ACS let go at least 20 regions across 5 sub-estates. It wasn't all losses, the smaller Spirit Estate Lands brought online 13 regions. Overall since last year (2nd Jan 2011) the grid has fallen by 426 regions (from 31504) with Private Estates down by 986 (from 24843) and Linden Owned increased by 560 to 6661 (mainly Linden Home & Linden Realm Regions) During that period there were a total of 5148 new regions added and 1097 returned to the grid, will 8644 regions were removed of which 1377 were renamed and 2000 came and went during the year. This week Adult Rated regions grew by 5 to 3234 (10.4% of the grid) whilst General Rated regions fell by 19 to 4991 (16.0%). Over the year Adult rated have grown by 872 , up from 7.5% of the Grid . | Another fall this week of 173 regions. All the loss was amongst Private Estates Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30905 ( 23684 private estates & 7221 Linden owned) 108 new regions were added and 24 returned to the grid, with 307 regions removed (24 were renamed and 3 came and went since last report) The main loss this week was 105 RGF Estate regions which went offline. Marcusgay Leferve (RGF General Manager) contacted me earlier in the week to let me know this was happening and to say it was primarily a result of the October Private Estate promotion. ACS also had a net loss of 24 regions across their sub-estates. However, Dreamseeker Estates and Spirit Estate Lands brought online 24 & 8 regions respectively. But the sale has caused major vacancies across the grid that did not exist prior to October which pushed the prices lower and caused many people who used to rent sims from us for 19K to move to another estate now offering lower tier. This is all a domino effect of the sale that I have anticipated and made a post about back in October. | |
