Here is where shit is fucked up. The estates had grandfathered sims. They were making money off LL's back and not doing jack fucking shit to justify it. LL still carries the governance and maintenance burden. LL is transferring the revenue to them instead of collecting less from estates who rented at LL retail prices and gave nothing more than LL had to give in services.

Think it all the way through.
We do not give more than LL has to give ? - Lets start with we offer 24/7 support and we are there when needed. Nobody has to send us a support ticket and pray someone will open it within 10 business days. Also WE (the estate) has been the one who paid up to 1650 US$ so called "setup fee" in the past to get a sim online, most of those who rented a sim over the past few years would never have been able and or willing to do so.

You need help terraforming a sim or someone who explains to you how things work ? Try to call a Linden for that. I wish you luck. A griefer is attacking your club ? Go call the so called Abuse Team for help. Again - good luck!

You would like to pay your tier weekly instead of monthly ? Go right ahead, I am sure Linden Lab will set it up for you that way. And you bought a full prim sim , paid 1000 US$ setup fee but you don't want it after some weeks ? No problem ... ask the Lab for a refund because if you would have rented one from an estate you would never have paid any setup fee in the first place. I am sure they will refund you in a yiffy ...

As you said ... think it through ALL the way ...

Cool

A couple of things:

LL does make more profit from landiwners. Simply because the majority of customer service issues are handled by the estate owners. The 100usd differential cannot be supported by the extra software features cost.

I'm not too sure we've seen the last of the sim dumping yet. I suspect that a lot of the ones dumped were already empty and owners sensibly realised that there was little chance of renting them out. I'd expect to see more over the next 3+ weeks.

I think that this was another marketing test and probably won't be repeated until next year (if at all) LL does have a habit of ltesting an idea once and never repeating it.

Whilst I do feel a pang for landlords, unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your viewpoint) LL care as little for them as they do for the rest of us. At least landlords still have europeans and people who want less land than a sim to fall back on. The other segments here haven't been quite so lucky.

And a final thought. A fair few of those people who bought were possibly like me, they wouldn't ever pay a landlord as they'd rather be screwed over directly by ll. Had they not fucked me around so badly with destroying those sculpts, the megaprim removal, crap letigre relrases in general and the suboptimal marketplace deployment down the last year and the os upgrade and megaprim fuckup in the weeks leading up to the offer i would now be spending another 500+pm with them. I've resisted the secondhand market simply because you're at the mercy of ll getting around to doing the transfer and tbh, i don't think land is worth any upfront fee, it's not even worth basic tier to me*. So i don't have a problem with ll going after people like me and had they had even an ounce of business nous they would have done the offer in a more sophisticated way that didn't destroy the goodwill of their larger landlords but then, those that were burnt by the 40% setup cost drop a few years back were probably waiting for this day to come.

Hey ho

*edit. It's only a stubborn refusal bordering on madness that makes me ignore the fact that a shop expansion of that size won't generate the returns per prim that my current shop does.

Yea I did. 99.99% of SL drama is self induced. And to get rid of griefers requires LL intervention anyway and everyone knows it. Besides the griefers are mainly interested in certain mainland properties anyway.

Yep. If there is a real problem the only people that can handle it is LL anyway. The estates were supposed to value add but all they mainly did was pancake them and parcel and all performance issues remained squarely with LL.

LL isn't stupid.

Yes we definitely haven't seen the last of the dumping. I for one am in the process of dumping a sim - but I do the right thing and relocate my tenants to my other holdings with a free week of tier for their trouble, so that takes time. I will try to sell it on the used market as I have in the past, but it's getting harder to find buyers each time so I may have to abandon. I also have an empty full sim, which I've offered my tenants a large rental credit for if they refer someone. We'll see how it goes.

The pancake and parcel landlords are surviving this precisely because they don't add much value. Their prices are low because they have poor service and few amenities, but those low prices keep tenants. Those of us who have decent support, community, events, and nicely terraformed sims can't afford to drop our prices as low, because offering those services costs money. Then we lose tenants because the economy sucks and people want the cheapest deal, even if what they get is crap.

This is the root problem. It is not LL's responsibility to shore up failing businesses that are circling the drain because end users simply can't afford luxury services any longer. It sucks, it really sucks, but if what people need right now is cheap land rather than land services, that is the reality of the economy you're dealing with.

some estates pass on the grandfathered tier and some do not.

I am still paying the same rental tier in a grandfathered sim as I did in 2006. (been renting there the whole time). But I am aware not all estates do that.

Think it all the way through.
You assume that the sims that where abandoned are grandfathered sims.
That is unlikely.
More logical, for a landlord, is, when faced with no other option then to abandon a sim, to move people from a NON grandfathered sim to a grandfathered sim and then abandoning the non grandfathered sim.

Yes...I would never get rid of my grandfathered sims. I'd dump all my other sims before I even considered it. I also don't pass on the grandfathered pricing, though I sometimes price lower than my usual. I need that extra $ to pay for my event sims that don't cover their own tier.

179 Old ACS regions were brought back online yesterday. These were predominantly those regions which were taken off line a week ago and are spread across the ACS sub-estates. Time will tell whether this is a temporary action to allow ex-tenants and sub-tenants to return and pack up their prims or a more permanent return.

Yes time will tell. However, I am hedging my bet that these ACS regions will come back online permanently, and that this came about by a heart-to-heart talk of ACS with Rodvik. This talk inaugurated a new wipty-doo program for the "more advanced land barons" with a working title of "The Zeus Program."

This speculation is all based on the premise that ACS knows better, and would never cancel sims with tenants on them. However, I could be wrong, but I do know the Chungs, but from a professional standpoint only, please understand.

Anyone can comment this offline region? I find this very confusing why paying a tier on a sim empty if others can have them offline do they pay tier or not? what a mess since this offer and this offline stuffy so a new continent again will show up>? I think there is way too much lands on the market vacant and to rent since 2 years we are swimming in a soup of nowhere horizon... but SL is still here and still to float apart we are in the islands horizon in land search...

When you return a region, sometimes it is fast and you don't have time to take your items (renters in particular). That's a problem for some non copyable items.
You can fill up a ticket and ask Linden to wake up the region for 24 hours (if I'm not mistaken) at no cost.

I know cause I did it in the past.

Just saying - a relatively large influx of estate sims for lease came onto the marketplace today in Second Life.

(Yes, most seemed to be from the ACS group.)

Time has told that these sims were a permanent come back.

I just wish that I had been a virtual fly, on the virtual wall, listening to the virtual conversation(s) between LL and whomever heads ACS to make this arrangement. Since ACS has been such a dominating force in SL for many years, that "whomever" is no pussy cat when it comes to good bargaining.

My guess is, free tier for those 179 sims for the next 3 months, but since I am "silenced," please don't listen to me.

This week saw the grid grow by 230 regions, Private estates gained 227 whilst Linden Owned gained 3.

Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31410 ( 24387 private estates & 7023 Linden owned)
86 new regions were added and 261 returned to the grid, with 121 regions removed (33 were renamed and 4 came and went since last report)

The jump to 7023 Linden Owned from last weeks 6984 is really only 3 additional regions and a reclassification of the 36 Linden Realm regions to being Linden Owned, these regions originally appeared Between 19th Oct & 2nd November and were misclassified as private estates at that time.

The main growth this week has been driven by the returned ACS regions reported earlier this week, in total ACS added 193 regions. The actual ACS estates which increased are: Jessica Chung who added 50 Regions (including a 14 region estate purchase),Miriam Chung 34,Azure Islands 28, Barbie Chung 27, Victoria Chung 19, Lorena Chung 18 & Dreamland ACS added 17
Other large estates with positive growth were Lala Rentals adding 26 and Zoha Islands adding 10. There were no significant estate losses this week.
