| A little late after an RL break, but here is the latest weekly report. Data is based on previous 8 days to Monday Evening. This week the grid contracted by 51 regions, Private Estates had a net loss of 52 whilst Linden Owned grew by 1) Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31118 ( 24244 private estates & 6874 Linden owned) 95 new regions were added and 36 returned to the grid, with 182 regions removed (34 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) The only significant changes detected this week were a small fracturing of Jewel Islands estate which lost 19 regions whilst Dreamseekers Estates awoke to find a net dcline of 12 regions. | A net increase this week of 23 regions since last Monday (a 6 day period because of the late survey last week). Private Estates grew by 24 regions whilst Linden Owned fell by 1. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31141 ( 24268 private estates & 6873 Linden owned) 120 new regions were added and 33 returned to the grid, with 131 regions removed (27 were renamed and 0 came and went since last report) Miriam Chung added 16 regions whilst Richmond Land Management had net grouwth of 11. | With all the SLCC activity this week, land changes on the Grid itself have been quiet. This week the Grid had net growth of 1 region. Private Estates had net losses of 9 regions whilst Linden owned gained 10. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31142 ( 24259 private estates & 6883 Linden owned) 95 new regions were added and 19 returned to the grid, with 118 regions removed (25 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) The only significant change this week was Linden Lab adding a further 11 Linden Home Regions (Modern themed) and a connected infohub region (Bucksnort). There were no noticeable changes in Private Estate holdings Breakdown of Host Server Classes by Ownership:

| This week the grid had a net loss of 17 regions, Private estates fell by 21 whilst Linden owned grew by 4 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31125 ( 24238 private estates & 6887 Linden owned) 107 new regions were added and 14 returned to the grid, with 150 regions removed (45 were renamed and 2 came and went since last report) Linden Lab added another 14 Linden Home regions and turned off the 10 Viewer2Tips islands whilst the only major change in private estates was ACS Dreamland dropping 14 regions. My Mood:  SL Join Date: 3/20/2007 | I am surprised that the interest in Linden homes is still strong enough that they would need to add regions. Are the existing regions all occupied? Has this program ultimately led to more people picking up a premium membership? If so, I wonder if they are becoming active members of SL vs those who just throw it on the card and forget about it. I know at first there was a huge influx of existing premium members using up excess tier to get one, or selling other land and tiering down to have a Linden home changing room. Maybe people are still doing that? Could also be that the program killed the rental market at that price point too, I suppose. Interesting. |

Or between 1/4 to 1/3 of your income. Look at occupancy rates. Anyone with low financial reserves runs the risk of imploding, and it's literally been 'weaker fish being eaten by stronger fish' for a good while now. 3) Small 1 or 2 region estates generally hanging on because let's face it, in a pinch the owner can usually float a few hundred bucks a month personally for a while. The elephant in the room is the SL mainland. Linden Homes are a bid to save the biggest megabaron of them all, Jack Linden... who is now on to other things while the mainland 'estate' is sort of still out there. This is the really tough question, how to fix the eroded mainland occupancy without destroying the place, or its image of stability and strength. Mainland can get away with things we can't on the private estates, it's far cheaper, regions still stay even if totally insolvent by private estate measures, and squatters can basically live for free for months at a time in the vast abandoned spaces (still paid for by others or not, squatters don't care if the mainland resident is absentee). Whomever can solve this question solves it for the whole platform ~ as the mainland goes, so does the whole platform. Incidentally, the solution is this: lowering the tier price point for all regions. Now, don't get excited, I'm sure that's still the last thing that will occur to anyone in control of it. Still. For now. It will happen when regions don't sell *anyway* (see the trend in the data?) and it will be the only possible mechanism left to turn the tide. No matter how shiny an apple is, very few people will still pay 295/month for an apple when oranges and bananas are going for 15 dollars a month. | |

SL Join Date: September 2006 | I'd get back in SL if I could get a full estate region for $200/mo and no acquisition cost. I'd pay $150/mo for a great mainland region (old, large, stable, attractive neighbors in adjacent regions). But still wouldn't pay a large, up-front fee. Thinking of SL as a 3D web with hosting costs is a lost cause. And $300/mo as an entertainment expense is silly, except for a few gainfully-employed geeks. In 2011 $200/mo should buy the big box of LEGO (a full, pretty region). |

| Time for the August Private Estate survey. As with previous months, its a survey of 5000 randomly selected private estate regions which I use to estimates Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The results are as follows:
Of the 4318 accessible regions , 57.5% are Full Regions, 42.2% are Homesteads and 0.4% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.34% and +/-0.16% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. There is a very small shift away from full regions since last months survey. During this period Private estates had a net loss of 145 Regions to a total of 24235 . The proportion closed to public access was down by 0.9% on last month at 13.6%. 4 of the Full Regions were Linden Developed Regions (i.e. sold new with content) and 1 Linden Developed Homesteads were included in the sample. Again as with all previous months this is too small penetration to reliably track. 693 of the 1821 (38.1%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is a small but significant rise of 2.0% from last month (36.1% ). Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$5,089,000 +/- US$60,000 . (Calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is down on last month's estimate of US$5,125,000 by $36,000 , a fall of about 0.7% within the margin of error. The top 20 landowners currently control 31.3% (+/- 1.3%) of private estate regions, This 1.3% up on last month , using list prices their holdings represent 26.5% of total private estate tier. The figures for the top 10 landowners are 22.7% (+/- 1.1%) of regions and 18.3% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). This share for the top 10 is about the same as last months figure of 22.1% of private estate regions. The Top 10 Full Region/Homestead/Openspace proportions are 38.1%/61.8%/0.0% and 37.1%/62.9%/0.0% for the top 20 The Top 10 Estates by number of regions held are as follows:
The biggest change this wee is Zoha Estates moving up to 3rd position, a change in share of 0.5%. Bell Estates showed a small decline of 0.3% share. Overall known ACS share was 8.6% , up on last months 7.5% which exceeds the surveys margin of error. The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.6% for the largest down to +/- 0.3% for the smallest, These rankings are purely on number of regions owned and are not based on FRE numbers . July's list for the Estates in 11th to 20th position (In alphabetical order) is
The smallest of these is about 2/3rds the size of the current estate in 10th position The regions were running on the following distribution of server class
There was no observable shift in distribution of Server Classes Survey Details: This survey was based on a random sample of 5000 private estate regions drawn from all 24235 private estates on the grid on 26th July 2011. The actual surveying took place on 26th & 27th July 2011.A further 7 regions were randomly selected to top up the sample, replacing those regions which were unavailable (other than closed to public access) at the time of surveying. | This week the grid overall grew by 24 regions but it's a different story for Private Estates which had a net loss of 17 regions whilst Linden Owned added 41 Total number of Main Grid regions is now 31149 ( 24221 private estates & 6928 Linden owned) 127 new regions were added and 9 returned to the grid, with 114 regions removed (30 were renamed and 1 came and went since last report) The Main change this week was the addition of 34 Linden Home Regions on Nascera 4 , mainly Modern Themed bt also including Parkland and some Asian themed regions. Also the 4 Teen Only Chimp Lab Sandbox regions were renamed (still with a simian theme) .There were no major changes in Private Estate holdings detected. | Probably because of the additional features they are planning for Premium accounts, which they probably believe will drive a rise in Premium account numbers so are planning on a bigger uptake in Linden Homes. |
