| Today the new generic Nascera Regions were all (but 1) given their final Linden Home region names. With the Linden Home project expected to go live next week I was expecting this to happen today - LL recently have seemed to make most major Grid changes on a Saturday. The 186 new regions follow the same themes as the Beta Project Linden Homes with full regions devoted to park land . The Modern themed regions are named after instruments, the Asian regions have Japanese names, Fantasy are named after mythical beasts whilst the A Frame themed regions are predominantly named after birds. | A lot of activity this week, with the main grid growing by 53 Regions, Private Estates grew by 52 and Linden owned gained 1. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30250 ( 24401 private estates & 5849 Linden owned) 429 new regions were added and 47 returned to the grid, with 437 regions removed (235 were renamed and 10 came and went since last report) There were 187 Nascera regions renamed yesterday which I reported in the previous post - These have been excluded from the following lists for sake of brevity.(though they still figure in the totals). There was a lot of activity in estates this week, though I 've not had time to analyse these in great detail.I will report later this week on the changes. I have added Linden Home ownership to the Statistics stored on Gridsurvey.com as well as adding concurrency, new account signup and daily US$ transactions measures, along with charts.  | Belated, but I finally noticed that in December, the Cicada sim disappeared. Terrible! Oh, the night club and lame shops were awful, but the build by the NotSoBad team was simply stunning. Awful when gorgeous sims disappear into the ether.

| Tomorrow the Linden Home project is supposed to go live so here is a little benchmark census. Currently Nascera consists of 254 Full regions (with a SKU code of 131: Linden Home Full Region) . 4 Regions are designated Infohubs and a further 51 are designated open park land. The 199 others are Linden homes regions . 76 are laid out with a Modern Theme, 45 Asian, 40 Tahoe A-Frame and 38 Fantasy themed. In total there are 8787 Linden Home plots across these regions, these include the 2160 Linden Homes in the original 64 Beta regions. 807 of these are currently occupied by participants in the beta project. | It's Friday and its Nascera census time. A very busy week with the Linden Home project going live on the 17th. A net increase of 5904 residents joined the existing 807 beta residents ,in the past two days brings total residence to 6711 76% of the 8787 current Linden Homes. Just over half of all residents live in the Modern Design homes Residency by theme:
This almost fills the available Modern themed homes (there are currently only 3 out of 3455 available) Occupation of available homes by theme

| This week the grid grew by 59 regions, Private estates had net growth of 41 regions whilst Linden owned grew by 18. | Feb 2010 Private Estate Survey Here are the results of the February region survey of Private Estates to estimate Full/Homestead/Openspace penetration. The Sample was 5000. The main results are as follows
Of the 4268 accessible regions , 59.9% are Full Regions, 39.5% are Homesteads and 0.6% are Openspaces. The Margins of Error are +/-1.34% , +/- 1.33% and +/-0.22% respectively for the three figures figure at the 95% confidence level. This is a small increase in the number of Homesteads (and Openspaces) at the expense of Full Regions, though the change from last month is non significant. During this period Private estates had a net growth of 291 Regions to a total of 24438. The proportion closed to public access has risen slightly significantly from 13.6% to 17.74%. 1 of the Homestead Regions sampled was a Linden Developed Homestead Region (i.e. sold new with content). Again as last month this is too small penetration to reliably track. 299 of the 1685 (17.7%) Homestead regions were at the new non-grandfathered rate, this is up 1% from 16.7% last month. Taking these figures a good estimate of private estate tier due each month is US$5,129,000 +/- US$63,000 . (this figure is calculated using known grandfathering rates but excludes any academic reductions and is rounded to the closest US$1000), this figure is marginally up on last month's estimate of US$5,079,000 (by about 1%), but the rise is statistically non-significant. The top 20 landowners currently control 24.0% (+/- 1.16%) of private estate regions, using list prices their holdings represent 19.3% of total private estate tier. The figures for the top 10 landowners are 19.0% (+/- 1.07%) of regions and 14.5% of tier (the larger estates tend to have a bigger proportion of homesteads than smaller estates). The 7 Estates detected as holding more than 1% of all Private Estates are:
The Margins of error for these Estate shares range from +/-0.65% for the largest down to +/- 0.28% for the smallest. Two other Estates were detected as holding under 1% of private estates may statistically exceed this threshold - These were Serena Estates & Dreamseeker Estates. No Class 7 Severs were detected amongst this private Estate Sample - though 6 Xstreet Regions were running class 7 - These Xtsreet regions had originally been classified as private Estates but I reclassified them as Linden Owned today. I finished a full Mainland Census earlier this week but haven't yet written up the results. I will address this after tomorrows weekly Nascera census. | Reminiscent of the British 1960's sci fi film Doppleganger (Journey to the far side of the Sun) Today I've found an identical Nascera continent with the same geography as the original  At first I was at home then got a little confused just like in the film - something was strange, out of place but I just couldn't put my finger on it then it dawned on me there were NO INFOHUBS and the region names were different  - It wasn't Nascera 1 it was Nascera 2 !!!!   This week the Linden Home activity has been very brisk with Modern (and then Asian ) themes 100% taken up, until finally the full contient was filled, LL seemed to try to alleviate the demand by rolling out around 20 new Modern Themed regions but these were also soon snapped up. So the solution yesterday was to create a complete copy of the full Nascera continent and open that up for residency - The copybotted continent lies to far the south west of the original (400 regions south) :  This means that this week Linden Home regions have increased to 544 regions in total - a 10% increase in Mainland regions. A net increase of 4149 residents in the week to bring the total to 10053 occupied Linden Homes - this is 53% of the 19393 homes . Demand for the Asian and A Frame theme has picked up though mModern still holds its popularity Residency by theme:
This means that each theme is now about half full Occupation of available homes by theme:
I may have a look soon at how many of the new Linden Home owners are new SL Residents - but not tonight - coping with a 120% increase in the size of the weekly Nascera census has proved to be more time consuming than I thought  .Most of the New regions are hosted on a mixture of class 501 and 7 servers and many of the park regions are homesteads - The original park sims are Full regions. | The sudden duplication of the *entire* Nascera continent clearly indicates one thing: The people running the program were caught with their pants down, had NO idea how strong the response would be and are now desperately trying to keep the program on track. With ZERO clue as to the consequences. Where is it going to top out ~ 25,000 residents? 50,000? How many of these people will ditch 4096m parcels for Linden Homes, because they simply maintained a 4096 to 'buy the view' and keep someone from putting a LOLcat shrine right next to their front door? This program to 'expand the mainland' might end up doing more collateral damage to the mainland, than even private estates. We are about to all find out the results, as the months roll on! Exciting, isn't it? But it's good to see such solid evidence of deep understanding of the gridwide land market! This whole thing smells more like a Greenspan, Bernanke and subprime housing fiasco than a Warren Buffett move. * * * * * Just one man's analysis, take it or leave it. Thank you, that is all.

| @ Desmond ... The intent wasn't to "expand the mainland" it was to offer an incentive to new residents to become "Premium" members (and collect $72 USD each). It would seem to have succeeded to some degree although so far we don't have any data comparing oldbies tiering down to a Linden home, like in your example, to newbies and oldbies upgrading to premium because it now comes with a home. @Infiniview ... no incentive at all since they're giving the homes and land away for $72 USD/year without recurrent tier billing. edit: Tyche to the rescue, below!

| This morning I've been looking at who has taken up Linden Homes by taking a random sample of 2000 and comparing them against a similar sample of Other Mainland owners (excluding group owners) - Generally they are younger accounts than existing Mainland owners who haven't taken up the offer 27% are under a year old whilst only 8% of other mainland owners are . 7% of all Linden home owners are under a month old vs 0.4% of other land owners. My mainland census only covered the first 5 days of Nascera going public but Group holdings remained constant in terms of total area held (they rose by 0.24% vs December) and the number of Individual account owners increase more or less in line with the number of Linden Owned houses taken up . It looks like currently the new owners are either existing premiums who had spare tier or brand new premiums - there is little evidence selling/abandoning to create the necessary 512 for a linden home. | That's a good sign, Tyche. Let's hope it stays that way. What I see is this: lots of oldbies who have land, wonder what to do with it, and hardly ever log in. But they keep the land. Why? Because they just don't want to rez into someone else's back yard when they *do* visit, or the inanity that comprises most public spaces, welcome areas and the like. Seriously, how many people have asked themselves: why am I still owning all this land? As such, these little parcels are essentially an escape valve. Tired of SL for a while? Ditch the 75/month payment and just coast a while for 27 cents a week in a Linden Home! Land ownership and active residency don't exactly overlap. People hold land waaay longer than they are active. For instance a lot of people will 'get into' SL for about 10 or 11 months, then hold land for about 2 years. It's worse on the mainland. It's just a credit card hit. Paying the bill, they wonder: hmm, should I bother to go sell my land? Where's the download for the latest client? Nah... deal with it later. We shall see, though. Those stats paint a less bleak picture than I was worried about, and I would love to be wrong on this one. I've been significantly wrong before (I was pretty sure that voice would hit here the same way it hit there.com; it didn't). In any case, if I'm right at all we shall see oldbies accumulate and 'stick' in Nascera(s), in growing percentages. They may not ditch their mainland in the first two weeks, it's more complicated than walking out on a rental, but I know for a fact some have ditched their rentals already. * * * * * And even so, the sudden appearance of a second entire Nascera continent still tells me that they were caught unaware with the market implications of this. Not a good sign when these are the caretakers of a 1/4 billion square meter estate. It's about like giving an Alaskan bush pilot an A380 with a few hundred people onboard for the ride. | With this weeks expansion of Nascera the Grid grew by 280 regions though this hides a small decline in private estates. Private estates declined by 6 regions whilst Linden Owned grew by 286. | Friday is Nascera Day !! Still strong growth in Linden Home take up since last week with a net increase of 3522 new residents bringing the total to 13586, a 35% weekly increase . LL didn't add any new regions during the week so both continents are filling up - Overall occupancy is 70% of the 19393 homes. The modern themed houses still had the highest demand Residency by theme:

| Another busy week this week but unlike last week this time private estates showed the most growth . The Grid grew by 165 regions with Private Estates growing by 167 and Linden owned declining by 2. Total number of Main Grid regions is now 30754 ( 24603 private estates & 6151 Linden owned) 317 new regions were added and 37 returned to the grid, with 198 regions removed (42 were renamed and 9 came and went since last report) A lot of growth amongst the Rental Estates - Dreamland ACS added at least 47 regions whilst Richmond Estates added at least 35. Smaller estates growth was detected in the following estates: Dreamskeers (up 10) , Jewels Estates (up 7) and Fantasyland which added 6, 9 Clothing fair regions were also added to the Grid. Adult rated regions grew by 27 to 1938 (6.3% of the Grid) whilst PG rated regions grew by 22 to 4565 (14.8%) Breakdown of current regions by Ownership and Classification:
