| This week Linden Lab decided to remove direct links to the SL economic statistics. The daily produced figures can still be found at Second Life | Economic Statistics (Raw Data Files) but as of Friday LL removed the statistics about New Islands and added the following footnote Quote:
The grid contraction moves closer to flattening out this week with a net loss of 73 regions 187 new regions were added to the grid whilst 260 were removed (65 of these were renames). Total number of regions is now 27148 of which 21782 are private estates & 5366 Linden mainland. Newcomers to the grid include Best Sim Ever ,which I will give the benefit of doubt as it's new and maybe developed further, see below for an exciting picture showing this fantastic sim  A slightly more boring  new region is the Native American Four Directions Tribal region. | The proximity analyses shows that the biggest contraction in number of regions this week seems be within the Brazilian MLBR estate which shed 10 sims (leaving 30), whilst the largest estate growth was 7 new Czech Republic regions which were added to the large collection of Czech language regions. Estate groupings going off line

| With 167 new regions and 285 regions removed this week, the Grid dropped by 118 regions. Total number of regions is now 27064 of which 21692 are private estates & 5372 are Linden owned. 5 of the new sims were Linden owned (Boars Nest, Bug Island 2, Linden Estate Services3, Linden Estate Services4 & LindenWorld Executives) whilst 27 of the regions going offline come from one estate (The TokyoZERO estate) which only leaves one region online. Coincidently 12 regions named Tokyo1 to Tokyo12 also went offline this week, though I have no evidence they are the same estate, they were also geographically distant from the TokyoZERO regions. | Another quiet week with a net loss of 55 regions this week. In total 165 new regions were added to the grid and 220 removed, 55 of these being renamed. This brings the Grid to 27033 regions of which 21662 are private estates and 5371 are Linden owned During this week there were no major changes in Estates, though 9 French 2iM sims were transferred to the SAS estate whilst one was moved to the Linden Owned Abandoned Regions Estate (2iM RoseBleue2) Other changes included Kiss becoming Muffin, whilst Tampaville became Sweat and Eternal Eclipse faded out to reveal Ice Mountain. | This week the net shrinkage was slightly up from last week with a net loss of 119 regions With 177 new regions and 296 regions going, the Main Grid is now 26946 regions (21574 are private estates whilst 5372 are Linden owned). | This week my daily surveys to Thursday indicated the Grid was going to show a small positive growth of a few regions but there was a flurry of removals on Friday and today which leaves us with an over all net decline of 94 regions. With 180 new regions and 276 removed this week (46 being renames), we end up with 26874 main grid regions. 21500 are private estates and 5374 are Linden owned The new regions includes 2 Linden Mainland open sea homesteads (Waxford & Kenosaki) whose placement makes sea transport between the old Nautilus mainland and the newer Corsica continent a little easier. | This week's proximity analysis shows that the losses include the Ancient Egyptian themed rental estate (8 regions now gone). This is a shame as it was a great example of a multi-region historically themed estate. 7 PGV regions also went off line this week. The IsleEscape estate showed growth of 9 regions to at least 37 regions. A snapshot I made from an earlier visit to the Egyptian estate  Estate groupings going off line

| Tomorrow is the first anniversary of my initial grid survey, so I thought it would be interesting to take stock of changes in the Grid in the past year. On the 9th of March 2008 there were a total of 17549 main grid regions of which 13225 (75%) were private estates and 4324 were Linden Lab owned. 8891 (67%) of these private estate regions are still on the grid a year later 4189 (97%) of these Linden owned regions are still on the grid a year later In the last year a further 20844 private estates were added to the grid of which 8235 were subsequently removed, resulting in a net growth of 12609 private estate regions (95% annual growth). Linden Mainland showed a net growth (27%) of 1185 regions , a further 1308 added and then 123 removed within the year. The split between Private estates and Linden owned is now 21500 (86%) to 5374 (14%) Overall the Grid grew from 17549 regions to 26874 (53% growth). By the end of October, the Grid did reach a maximum of 31687* regions, of which 26605 were private estates, just prior to the Openspace repricing announcement. Grid size has declined since then but is still significantly larger than a year ago. *The actual maximum many have been a little larger than this as that is from a survey completed 36 hours before the announcement.
