| As we've reached the end of 2008 I'd thought I'd give a quick report on current grid size Total regions is 27880 of which 22699 are private estates and 5181 are Linden owned. Since the Openspace annoucement at the end of October the Grid has shrunk 4076 regions . This is net shrinkage, in total there were 1821 new regions added, with 5897 regions removed (649 were renamed). This is about the same Grid size as seen at the beginning of August of this year.

All I can say is they were not visible at the time of survey (and its a two pass process which checks the presence of each region in different login sessions - about 3 or 4 mins apart) but are now . On Sunday, however there were SL problems with logins & teleporting so it could have been some general Grid Glitch. Regions which are on the Grid but Offline (often when being rebooted) are detected by my surveys so that's unlikely to be the cause. The 4 may have been sharing the same physical server but the sim neighbour database seems to be a dead link now. | |

| Conveniently, this week's survey reports brings us to the eve of the new Openspace pricing, As most are aware as of tomorrow (5th Jan 2009) Openspaces which don't conform to Linden Lab's usage requirements will be converted to Homestead regions with a monthly tier of US$95 (raising to US$125 in July 2009). This week the grid has shrunk by 436 regions to 27617. This net fall was after 254 regions were added and 690 removed (59 were removed). | The Blake Sea regions have now come online. The 32 regions are designed to be a new mainland sailing region set between the new Mainland Nautilus development and the United Sailing Sims private estate. All the names are prefixed with "Blake Sea" Currently they are in a Linden Development part of the grid, visible on the map but not publicly accessible and connected to the Linden Cornelius regions I've mentioned in the past week or so,which also had an additional 4 regions added to them. They are not completely featureless water regions as there are signs on the map of islands.  |

| A net loss of 327 regions this week, very similar to last weeks figures. Total number of region is now 27324 ( 22107 private estates & 5217 Linden mainland). The 327 region loss is due to 206 new regions and 533 being removed, 81 of these were renames , including the 30 linden Cornelius regions being renamed as Blake Sea regions which I reporeted yesterday. There were also an additional 5 new Cornelius regions added this week. So in the first week of new tier charges there is no substantial increase in region abandonment, though I'm hearing rumors that Linden Lab may be keeping online at least one large abandoned private estate - I believe the estate is the Zweite Welt estate and consists of 117 regions. (Equinox Pinion posted about this on the SL forum SL Forums & SL Forums). The estate was certainly an actively expanding one until October since which its shown no change. | In Memoriam ? The remaining Linden Cornelius regions were given their Blake Sea names bringing the Blake Sea region up to 52 regions . All names are after Seas or Oceans:
Except for one : Blake Sea - Kendra I'm wondering if this is in memory of Kendra Bancroft, as all the other Blake Sea regions have recognisable nautical names (Seas, admirals, ships or terms)? My googling can find no serious nautical relationship with that name , other than Kendra building boats. |

| The grid shrinkage slowed down further this week with the smallest Net Loss since the contraction started at the end of October last year. | LL have just added 5 regions which bridge the gap between the Corsica and Gaeta continents. The 5 regions are all homesteads and are empty water areas, their names are Murport, Jetika, Coriandmo, Landark & Sharmoon.  There is also a new 120 region group added with a generic Urusla name (Ursula 1, Ursual 2 etc) . Currently there has been no map update for these so they appear grey on the map. | This week for the first time since October the main grid showed a net increase in the number of regions With 314 new regions added and 282 removed, the Grid increased by 32 regions. The main reason for this increase was the addition of 151 new Linden regions, 146 making up the Ursula area and another 5 bridging the gap between the Gaeta and Corsica continents. Private estates still showed a net decline in number with a net fall of 74 regions though this is the smallest drop since the Openspace announcement. There certainly seems a decline in regions being converted or abandoned. Private estates now number 21912 with 5366 Linden regions. Aside from the Ursula project, the biggest event this week was the moving of the Blake Sea regions and the USS regions to form a contiguous set of regions, just to the east of the new Nautilus continent.  Now open to public access, the Blake Sea region is predominantly open sea spaces but there are some very nice builds on the scattering of islands through the area. | The Grid contracted by 139 regions this week 171 new regions added and 310 removed. This has been one of the quietest weeks in terms of activity since I started surveying 11 months ago. Even before the new land store was launched we typically saw more activity.
