Horrible customer service from this company..

... ok fine, the shorts wouldn't fit, I should have read it carefully, but the owner didn't have to be such an ass...and here is my conversation with the owner (edited their name).

The shorts are made for a specific avatar. Better get used to this concept because that is what mesh is all about. Even if qarl ever manages to get the deformer into production the results will be stretched clothes that do not look right.

I.e.; if you wanted those shorts then you needed to buy the matching avatar they are made for.

Yeah that was fine and all, she pointed that out, but she was REALLY rude about it. Customer service skills ftl?

U Mode was definately rude. Appears to have some anger issues. Should probably stick to the creative end and hire someone to do the customer service stuff.

That said, why would you buy something you were told wouldn't work, then complain because it doesn't work? Makes no sense.

You know, I understand getting pissy about answering the same question over and over again to customers, but that's still not an excuse to flip your lid and be rude to a customer contacting you about the same thing a hundred other people have contacted you about.

With that said, if I had a product that garnered that much complaining, I'd do something to change it. Like maybe make it work for the majority instead of the minority of users out there.

And the description, while all capitals, really doesn't explain what these so-called avatars are that the shorts will actually fit.

When I put up an ad for my petites outfits, I label them "PETITE MESH AVATAR - Outfit Z Blue" (or whatever I call it), then put the phrase, "This was made for a MALE Petite Mesh Avatar and will NOT fit normal sized avatars or Minikin avatars."

Hopefully people read that far, but if they don't and buy the outfit, I'll patiently tell them the best place to buy said Petite Mesh Avatar.

I agree that the designer probably didnt handle it great.

BUT

They make it very clear at the top of the page it does not work with the standard SL avie and the related product shows the avatar it DOES work with. What else is the designer suposed to do.

As for making the item to fit the majority well WHY? They made an item to work with a mesh avatar they made. Why should they change that and make it to fit something else if they dont want to?

Maybe I misread the ad too. *shrug*

Yeah there's a bunch of stuff about mesh avatars it works with, and certainly won't work with a normal avatar.

I get that.

I just don't get the nasty service. People misread things all the time. That doesn't give you license to be snarky to them.

Umm, did I get this right?
  • You bought a product that is obviously labeled with a clear warning.
  • You find out that the product won't fit, just like the warning already told you.
  • You complain in IM about a missing alpha layer which wouldn't have changed the fact that the shorts won't fit.
  • While waiting for the reply of the creator, you leave a negative review that borders on harassment.
  • Again, an alpha layer wouldn't have changed a thing about fitting.
  • The creator replies to your IM the day after and points to the pretty obvious warning on the product page.
  • You start calling them rude.
  • You try to patronize them because you had a business and have been in SL for 9 years.
  • You threaten to badmouth them and call for a boycott, though you failed to read the product description.
  • You do badmouth them because you didn't get an alpha layer that wouldn't have helped you.
err...

Sorry, but I don't agree that this U Mode person is the only rude one in this act. Granted, they come across as on the edge and swearing like a sailor, but you certainly didn't act like a saint either. If you had put that much effort in looking at the product before you buy it, you would have had a lot less problems.

PS: Including chatlogs on LL's pages is suddenly acceptable?

I suspect it's way too soon to be spending actual money on mesh. I've picked up a bunch of freebies and demos and only one of them fit.

I would never be rude with a customer, but I've certainly seethed at negative ratings that linger on the Marketplace even AFTER an issue has been resolved.

To leave a negative rating on a product because of a stated feature on the product is a special kind of customer rudeness, too.

This doesn't seem rude to me. She didn't say the shorts didn't fit, she just said there was no alpha. The reaction from U Mode is snarky and rude. It just went downhill from there.

I'm pretty much thinking the following description would have stopped anyone from buying the product if they thought it would fit a standard SL avatar:

I think the creator of the shorts, by starting off his reply with an exasperated "Jesus" and rudeness, makes his own bed and has to lay in it. I don't know the creator or Ruby but a reaction like that guarantees you unpleasant fallout. I don't make and sell anymore, but when I did, I got a number of customers who also seemed like they didn't bother to read the descriptions or maybe didn't understand them. It is indeed annoying, but you hide that and try to do something to make it end on a good note. Don't know how things are now, but in those good ol days of 2006 or so, when I was selling houses, some customers would always fail to see the "Copy-Mod-NO TRANSFER!!" and contact me terribly upset because they couldn't give it as a gift to their friend. Duh. But I would get the name of their friend and send them one, too. Rewarding stupidity? Maybe. But a lot of those customers then came back again and purchased other things for themselves primarily because of that, so I earned repeat business by doing the unexpected.

I have reacted like that creator did once or twice in my life, not to customers but in another situation, and believe me there is fallout when you fail to respond to people with tact.

I would typically agree but, again, as you can see in the chatlog by the time the creator managed to get back to Zoey, Zoey had not waited for a reply and went ahead and left a negative review of the item while the creator was presumably going about their lives doing whatever they were doing in the ten hours or so Zoey had to live with the horror of mesh shorts that didn't work because she didn't read the big letters on the item page.

So by the time the merchant got around to replying to Zoey she was aware of the negative review and was obviously ticked off about it; Zoey makes it seem like the first contact the content creator had with her was an exasperated "Jesus Christ," but it obviously wasn't.

We all do impulsive buys and are disapointed i could understand a bit if she hadnīt left that nasty review on marketplace, sorry if you had left it on one of my products i would be pretty angry at you for giving it a negative review, on an item labeled not for the regular avatar mesh, before not contacting me, i problably wouldnīt have spoken like he did, but i bet you would understand i was angry when you imed me, and posting chatlogs on a review? FFS thatīs abosulitly nasty, and i would totaly ar you for it since is againts TOS.

The part Zoey has neglected to point out in her thread here is that she contacted the merchant and didn't even wait to receive a reply before leaving a negative review of the item (which it appears was then edited afterward to include Zoey's chatlog); by the time the merchant replied to the original IM she'd already negatively rated the product and in light of that I would have been rude too, especially given the fact that the merchant obviously has had enough similarly-idiotic people making the same mistake and then complaining afterward.
This came up after my response and I would also add, if this is the case, Zoey you really shouldn't leave negatives before you even hear back. Your post here does present the events as if your question was simply about an alpha you expected (and the creator should adjust the notecard if it doesn't fit the product) and doesn't mention that you'd already left her a bad review before the rude conversation.

And honestly starting a thread here makes me believe Zoey is on a roll on hurting this merchant tbh and i have flagged her review, sorry posting chatlogs on LLīs servers is not allowed unless you have permition.
