My Mood:  | Well, apparently, the Lindens just told some casino owners to shut down their establishments until Monday, so that "loophole" is closing now. Bah, if one of the people affected by this wasn't one of the nicest persons I've met in SL, I probably wouldn't care much about this. But the way it is, I'm just pissed because LL let this situation escalate again with its typical wishy-washy, halfhearted policy making and random enforcement of rules. My Mood:  SL Join Date: 10-21-2004 | I don't know who you mean but I know that game guy is going to owe a lot of refunds for promising a legal system. And frankly if I stood to make a profit off of something so shady I would ask federal advice and take it well before I would trust a Linden to be right on this. Greed is a harsh mistress sometimes. If you mean a casino owner who sank a bunch of money in.. again.. trusting a Linden to rule on a legal matter is asking for trouble. |

My Mood:  | This is absolutely ridiculous and blatantly illegal. If there was such a loophole in US law, don't you think it would have been exploited in real life? After all, gambling is legal in many places in the US (including reservations) and casinos hire lawyers with extensive legal training in gambling/wager issues. They would be the first to realize and exploit this loophole, not some players of a computer game. And, if there was such a blatant legal loophole, it would have been covered by modified legislation. Sorry, but I don't trust the legal word of computer programmers in an online game. How is this so hard to see? I realized this within seconds of hearing about Zergflops or Logdongs or whatever virtual currency scheme exists. However, there's people who will adamantly say that there is indeed a legal loophole, and in some SL news sources this issue is treated as if it isn't complete bullshit. The only gambling scheme I have seen that seems remotely legal was one in which it was impossible to convert their proprietary currency to anything else; the only thing you could do was purchase no-transfer products. This does seem very legal because nothing of value (in the legal sense) can be won; it's like Chuck e Cheese 2.0. |
