Question Alternatives to hippoRENT?

I have seen the threads about Hippo Technologies quietly disintegrating, but I really need a solid rental system with web management. I've used hippoRENT since at least 2007 and have zero experience with anything else.

Are there any worthwhile web-based rental systems still operating in SL?

Unless something has happened I'm not aware of, we stopped using Hippo when it became apparent it was dying off about 3/4 years ago. Both myself and the other half switched over to Casper as it was the only system that met our requirements.

Yeah Hippo's worked reliably for me until just this past week when I've found that the site is offline and their blog says basically they're backing away from the business.

I've seen people complain about Casper but I do not know the specifics. I will have to experiment with them though if they're the only game in town.

I moved from HippoRent to CasperLet a few years ago.

I found a few features missing in CasperLet, vendors linked to the rental boxes being one and the web interface is not as easy to get around.

If you do decide to use CasperLet I can recommend RentalBeam to fill some of the missing features.

From what I've seen he's just a cranky dude who likes to argue. Common in tech guys.

Meh. Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to bitch about. Hell people bitched about JEVN but I was mostly a happy customer. There was only one major incent that occurred which caused me to change vendors because it took Esme a while to fix the issue and I wasn't going to accept the risk. That is when I switched to Hippo.

Just be sure to do some research before making any purchases.

Regarding casper i personally dont suggest it. Its the same problem when the owner gets crazy or something then you are fcked up completly because its web only so i dont suggest to use it and make one mistake twice

CasperLet has 67 reviews on the Marketplace and still holds 5 stars.
So my guess is, that there is basically very little wrong with the system.
But of course, first read carefully what the system does and doesn't.
Don't expect it to handle things exactly as Hippo did.

We switched to Casper a few years ago when Hippo began to give us problems. It's worked fine. I wish we could integrate a vendor with the rent boxes like we used too but other than that it's worked.

Does anyone know if the Casper system monitors ownership of associated parcels? Like can you have boxes in a central location on a region, but they each detect a particular parcel and change when someone buys it? Is there a central web interface where an estate manager can look to see which parcels are overdue?

I have an in-house system I purchased from another estate years ago. It’s been unreliable lately, but the person who coded it is trying to charge me a small fortune to fix it. I’m looking for alternatives, but I’m not sure if anything exists that does the same stuff as our current system.

Casper has rental vendors, actually! There's both the integration path with CasperVend, and the vendors in the web kiosk pack.
