I think there's enough disinformation in the media the way it is. Why would I want to put money in Stein's pocket when I refused to put any in Michael Moore's, either?

Pass.

Out of respect for him, I think I'll pass. I had a phone conversation with him once and he impressed me as a good sort. I don't want to sully that image.

Just another man with mad money and an agenda.

Michael Moore, Ben Stein, who is next? The cost of opinion persuasion in America is cheap.

Teaching intelligent design in schools and universities, seemingly from the perspective that instructors who teach it are being persecuted.

I just wandered over and read the blog. It compares Darwinists to Nazis.

Yep ... I'm going to see it. The darwinists and anti-intelligent design people are so vitrolic about it that there must be something to it ... heheheh

Basically, Ben Stein contends that if a scientist, teacher, professor or person of any intellectual credibility has the audacity to claim that there is a possibility or there is room for the possibility of a creator or intelligent designer they loose credibility, their jobs, cannot get or lose tenure and so on.

The movie is NOT about proving intelligent design over darwinism like so many critics claim.

If they assert such religious beliefs in the science classroom, firing them (or at least suspending them) is the right thing to do.

They can believe it all they want. But religious beliefs have no place in the science classroom teaching children how nature works.

It violates the basic idea of separation between Church and State. There's too much church and not enough separation.

My question is not about the idea, it is about the film itself. I don't want to debate that here. Will you see this film? Do you want to see it? Or are you just going to avoid it all together?

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed--Ben Stein Launches a Science-free Attack on Darwin: Scientific American

This review echoes what many have been saying, that not only does the film contain wild fabrications, but that a number of people interviewed for the film (like the author of the linked article) were lied to about the nature of the film in which they are interviewed. This review - unlike plentiful others which say mostly the same thing - appears in a generally accepted magazine and has the benefit of being professionally edited.

Based on the reviews that I've read in advance of of its general release I concluded Expelled has committed perhaps the worst sin a film marketed as "controversial" can: it is boring. Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

Well based on the two issues at hand, one that it's Ben Stein who I can't stand, and two the topic of the film, I am not interested in seeing it.

Nah, think I'll pass. Stein already has enough money. He's just stirring shit up again to make more. I can think of better uses for my hard-earned $$.

... well ... its hard not to talk about the "idea" when that is what determines whether or not you see the film ... but I won't debate anyone, promise

I'll watch it the same way I would have watched the crap Michael Moore put out, by being paid to.

Really, I see this no better then the many other "documentaries" out there in the Michael Moore region of things. I will probably see it... sometime, maybe. I mean, I just got around to watching an "Inconvenient Truth" after all. I still have to watch Bowling for Columbine, however. Yeah, I am behind on my movie watching, so be it

And for the record, I am sure this film will be full of crap. But we can talk about that once the movie comes out. I just wanted to see if anyone here was going to see it.

No, I'm not going to go see it, especially after I read the review from the EW article:

Quote:
By the time the camera zooms in on the word ''Creator'' in the Declaration of Independence, the whole debate seems less urgent than getting out of the theater.
Nope, not something I'll see unless either someone else is paying for it or it's SOMEHOW free. I really hate the dominionism movement.
