That brings up an interesting question..
Did anyone see anyone going in,or at the theater, dressed up as any of the Mad Max characters, from any of the older films or even as anyone from this film?
First time I went I saw 4 people in line in front of me all dressed up in Mad Max gear. Shoulder pads, feathers, chaps, etc. It was the day after it came out at a downtown Chicago theater, so pretty big deal, enough that it was sold out (and in fact the people in costumes were turned away as was I).

I saw it today though, it was pretty fantastic. As everyone says: it is what it is and it doesn't try to be anything else. If you expected post-apoc insanity, cars, and explosions it pays off and then some. I liked that it was bigger on showing than saying. Like the little cultural quirks of the War Boys, or how the human race is degenerating into mutants.

Posted this review on Facebook, thought I'd post it here, too.

Mad Max Fury Road ***** - I'm going to make a bold prediction, that probably won't come true but should: Mad Max Fury Road is this generation's "Star Wars".

This is a movie that completely changes the language of film making and spits in the face of convention. Lets start with the highly discussed gender thing: Mad Max is not the hero of this movie, Imperator Furiosa is. In fact Max spends the first 30 minutes of this film as the "damsel" that needs to be rescued. Most of the rest he plays the "Obi Wan" role to Furiosa's "Luke".

But that's not all. This is a wholly original "Post Apocalyptic Punk" setting not seen since "Beyond Thunderdome", but this goes way beyond thunderdome to pure originality, Fury Road is a genre unto itself soon to take hold in the geek consciousness like "Cyberpunk" and "Steampunk" before.

And the plot? This is where the comparisons to Star Wars comes in. There is never an attempt in this film to explain the world of Mad Max, it is just a world you the viewer are dumped in, just like Star Wars was. Any attempt to explain it would ruin it, just like Star Wars Episode 1. The plot structure is very Star Wars like as well, very easy to follow and lots of surprises and some emotional jarring moments. Bonus: no Ewoks.

Finally color and tone play a huge role in this film. Zach Snyder is a director I like to pick on because he purposely under saturates all of his movies, which in my eyes makes them look dull and lifeless. George Miller also under saturates some scenes especially ones where there is mystery. In other scenes, especially the battle scenes, he actually over saturates making them feel alive. George Miller is now in his 70's and still teaching others how to make a movie.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Blu-ray Will Include George Miller’s Preferred Black and White Version

Quote:
Slashfilm picked up the following quote from Miller, who discusses the coloring process on Fury Road and reveals that the best version of the film is actually in black and white:

Quote:
We spent a lot of time in DI (digital intermediate), and we had a very fine colorist, Eric Whipp. One thing I’ve noticed is that the default position for everyone is to de-saturate post-apocalyptic movies. There’s only two ways to go, make them black and white — the best version of this movie is black and white, but people reserve that for art movies now. The other version is to really go all-out on the color. The usual teal and orange thing? That’s all the colors we had to work with. The desert’s orange and the sky is teal, and we either could de-saturate it, or crank it up, to differentiate the movie. Plus, it can get really tiring watching this dull, de-saturated color, unless you go all the way out and make it black and white.

The night time scenes did look black and white, or more accurately dark blue and light blue, except for flashes of color like blood red and yellow explosions.

Desaturation, which started with the Cohen Brothers "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is now an over used novelty like auto tune, and needs to die like auto tune. The worst offender ever is Zach Snyder's Man of Steel, which would have looked awesome in full color.

Fury Road plays with the saturation knob. I loved the oversaturation look of the battle scenes.

That's the thing i love about how these movies start..
You are dropped right in the middle of a situation..

I loved all the things that they dropped in there for the older fans.
Like when Max was dreaming, you catch a glimpse of Toecutters eyes bulging before he died, from the first movie.
The music box from the second movie..
The shot gun failing..Things like that..

I was expecting a great movie and that's what i got..
This is definitely going on our shelf right next to the others as soon as it hits the stores..

They Originally planned to do two movies.
This was supposed to be Mad Max 4 and Mad Max5 Furiosa combined..I think they did a really great job in doing that..

Not to take a thing away from this move..It would have been nice to have the two movies, but i'm not complaining one bit at all..hehehe

We're going back next weekend to see it again, and i'm sure a time or two after that..

I think Tom hardy did a really great job filling Mel's shoes..
And Charlice Johannes did a really great job as Furiosa..
I think everyone in that movie did a really great job..

To catch all that was going on,you almost have to watch it a few times..

Mad MaxIIII Furiosa,It Delivers, and then some..

George Miller once said to his car designer, "Make these cars cool, or I will kill you."

With this in mind, I now necro this thread.

Just in case one or two of you were not aware, this is out since last year Mad Max: Fury Road where you learn the story behind all the vehicles through some of the characters. Anyhoo... I loved it.

Quote:
In the brutal and lawless Wasteland, witness the rise of the veteran hero turned tyrannical warlord known as Immortan Joe, along with the story of one of his War Boys, the indomitable Nux. Then follow the journey of Furiosa, Joe’s most feared Imperator, and experience the cycle of violence and tragedy as the Road Warrior Max Rockatansky fights to rebuild his Interceptor-the vehicle that ensures his freedom!

Finally, exclusive to this collection, comes the tale of the mighty War Rig and the lives it claimed throughout its wild road battles!
