It is the best movie I have seen in the last decade. I have not read any of this thread.

So far everything I've read about this movie is saying that it's incredible (and at one point it had a 99% on rottentomatoes, which is pretty unprecedented).

I'm having a hard time imagining a remake/reboot in this day and age being that good...

Went to see it last night. I do think you will either really, like really really, like it, or walk away kinda miffed that you wasted the time.

It's weird / different / unusual. Very visually and emotionally driven. Much more a watch and feel, than watch and think. Quickly it establishes that the world is insane. There is just enough story and background that you are not having to go "wait, whut?" Instead you can just sit and absorb. Its like watching a dream or nightmare unfold, the visuals straddled a line between realism and epic style fantasy.

I don't thinks it's a remake or a reboot but just a sequel to the other movies but with a different actor playing Max.

Yeah, like Superman Returns was a direct sequel to the Reeve movies but with a different actor.

(Man of Steel though was a reboot)

Mad Max: Fury Road fails to be the lecture on the inherent superiority of masculinity I have to give myself in a Christian Bale Batman voice in order to climax sexually.

I think what was best about the movie (for me anyways) was the almost total lack of exposition, it let you just watch and enjoy it. It didn't explain away all the awesomeness, it just was.

I have never before seen a film quite so decisively achieve what it set out to do.

Actually it was considered a sequel just to Superman 2. Superman 3 and 4 are now considered non-existent since they were so bad.

This is interesting:

Mad Max: Fury Road Would Have Starred Heath Ledger - IGN

Quote:
If Mad Max: Fury Road had gone before cameras back when George Miller had originally intended, the director said it would have starred the late Heath Ledger instead of Tom Hardy.

Every time Heath [Ledger] would come through Sydney, he’d call in and we’d chat about Max," Miller told The Daily Beast. "He had that same thing that Mel and Tom Hardy have—that maleness, charisma, and restless energy, which you need to play a relatively still character."

However, Ledger's death in 2008 meant Miller would never get his wish. "The world lost someone great when he went," he added. "Tom [Hardy] was the next to walk through the door that had that vibe."
