What are the chances of this actually happening? I'm pretty jaded from getting hyped up about a few movies getting green let and then news on them goes cold. :/

Loved the first half of the book, I hope they find some way to pull the second half together a little more neatly. =)

After Hollywood made a faithful adaptation of Watchmen that utterly missed the point, I'm not really optimistic about this at all. And if the movie is bad, I'll have to include a caveat every time I mention the book.

And Hollywood dropped the ball on William Gibson's stuff...

The whole deconstruction of the super-haxxor ninja protagonist is seriously the best part of the book.

But Hollywood will likely miss the point.

If Joe Cornish is involved then the treatment would be in good hands ... As this handling of Star Trek the next Generation by Joe and his old comedy partner Adam Buxton shows

... Or Saving Private Lion

... or American Beautoy

Interesting choice for director. Attack the Block was pretty good.

With the economy the way it is, movie-makers know that myth/fantasy/super-heroes/big-fecking-robots, sell better. The more unreal the better. The masses need to feel more secure before they'll embrace near-future dystopian angst as a major block-buster.

If this actually gets made, no matter how glossy the trailer may be, my 'Entertainment Expectation Level' will be set somewhere between:
'Surrogates' (moderately low) to 'Strange Days' (very low).

About 10 years ago, I thought the ultimate actor to play Hiro Protagonist would be D. B. Woodside. He embodies the character so well. He has the right black/asian looks and has that charming leading man quality.

Personally, to do the book justice would require two movies.
Movie 1 = the metaverse/video drug Hiro vs Raven with Y.T. and Rat Thing.

Movie 2 = The Raft/chemical drug mafia vs. L Bob Rife with Juanita and R.E.A.S.O.N.

With only minor adjustments to the plot of the book, these stories could be stand alone movies. Therefore, I'd make movie 1 and if it does well, then make the much more expensive movie 2.

Interestingly, the lead actor of Attack the Block was a relatively unknown but very charismatic black actor named John Boyega who got a lot of justifiable praise for his performance. I wonder if Cornish might consider using him again to play Hiro? The studio would probably want a more bankable lead, but still...Boyega would be a really good fit.

He'd be nice. I personally like Donald Glover for the part, because Hiro Protagonist is not necessarily charming. He's perfectly nice, I mean, he's just not all that suave.

Chloe Grace Moretz for YT. Not sure about Juanita.

This is Hollywood. They will throw Will Smith at it, because he's the only black guy in Hollywood who does science fiction. Then again, they will give it to Keanu Reeves, since there are computers and some suit has already pitched the novel as "The Matrix meets ______."

Donald Glover gets my vote... but, well, I'm biased because of NBC's Community.

Did Snow Crash mention Hiro having dreadlocks? I was surprised to see DeviantArt thinks Hiro has dreadlocks.

I just don't see this representing well as a movie. The world and plot were both full of holes, okay for reading and making stuff up, but I'm picturing a bad version of the original Dune film if you can imagine that. There are really cool elements to the story. I'll watch it for the dogs.
