In which our intrepid correspondent goes to Milan to visit Bar Luce, designed by Wes Anderson. ^_^

Bar Luce: A Wes Anderson Designed Cafe in Milan, Italy – The Everywhereist

Therein lies Anderson’s brilliance – he creates characters who are often miserable and yet they are fine. Things are simultaneously bad and okay. That is a world I know.

Every piece of it has been crafted by Anderson. It is perfect execution of his vision, but it is not perfect – his work never is. Pants hemmed too short, rusted out cars, a penciled in mustache – there is always something intentionally amiss.

Disney set to seal $60bn 21st Century Fox takeover - BBC News

So, pretty huge:

Quote:
Walt Disney is close to confirming a deal to buy 21st Century Fox's entertainment assets for about $60bn, reports say.

The sale would include the 20th Century Fox film studio and the Sky and Star satellite broadcasters in the UK, Europe and Asia.
And quite a bit more. However, crucially:

Quote:
The Fox broadcast network, Fox News and Fox Sports would remain under the Murdochs' control.

I guess maybe the core ones but aren't there several Marvel and Pixar films on Netflix at any given time?

I know Guardians of the Galaxy and Dr Strange are on there now. And I think Moana is as well. There's probably more.

They have a contract that runs through at least 2018 for many of their existing films. They have announced that they will not renew that contract, and they now own a stake in Hulu from the Fox deal.

Hmm, I assume this means ABC shows.

If ABC/Disney pull out for Hulu and CBS decides they want to make All Access better with CBS/CW's content that could really hurt Netflix.

It's difficult to say; Disney's especially hard-nosed when it comes to negotiations, as we saw in the run-up to Apple launching 4K streaming, where Disney remained the final hold-out, leaving Apple launching without them. It's even more uncertain in regards to an acquisition, of course, where the contract may well ensure things are unchanged for some period of time.

And then there's Disney's own streaming service, which they've been trying to push - that certainly won't be hurt by such a purchase, potentially leaving us with a future media landscape of a multitude of streaming services, all clamoring for their $10/mo. =:/

So true!!

... then again, that decision saved her from having to appear in LoT. So not that bad a decision after all

Ridley Scott Thinks Disney Should Hire More Experienced Directors for Star Wars
Quote:
I think they like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself. When you get a guy who’s done a low-budget movie and you suddenly give him $180 million, it makes no sense whatsoever. It’s fuckin’ stupid. You know what the reshoots cost?

Millions! Millions. You can get me for my fee, which is heavy, but I’ll be under budget and on time. This is where experience does matter, it’s as simple as that! It can make you dull as dishwater, but if you’re really experienced and you know what you’re doing, it’s fucking essential. Grow into it, little by little. Start low-budget, get a little bit bigger, maybe after $20 million, you can go to $80. But don’t suddenly go to $160.
Sounds more to me like Ridley is trying to get Disney to hire one specific experienced director...

My mom.has been talking about Downsizing since the trailers first came out and we went to watch it tonight.

Its an interesting premise that pretty much goes nowhere. And given the gimmick of the movie, shrunk people, it shows up surprisingly little. Like almost the entire plot could have happened without it.

How to watch the 2018 Golden Globes online tonight

A question I've always wanted to ask: Anyone know why the Golden Globes award looks like a high school regionals soccer trophy?

I found "The Disaster Artist" to be a pleasant surprise and Franco is great in it. I have often thought of him as a one-note actor, but he really shines in this particular role.
