Space: 1999 to make a comeback

According to The Reg (Space: 1999 returning to TV? ? The Register) one of my favorite space operas is to be reborn. Though I doubt it will capture the 12 year old imagination as the original did, it will certainly be worth a watch.

Can UFO be far behind?

Who knew that disco would survive, on the moon.

I dunno. I watched the show when I was a kid, but it had one glaring flaw. A nuclear waste explosion powerful enough to send the Moon out of orbit would more likely shatter the Moon. The whole blowing the Moon out of orbit was actually a compromise, because they originally wanted to blow up the Earth. I guess they will have to make big changes in the premise this time.

It always seemed to me that acting was the one glaring flaw. Then I convinced myself that that everyone's stone cold demeanor intentionally supported the somber mood of bare minimum hope. And all was well with the moon.

The best thing about Space 1999 was the Eagles. They remain a pretty realistic design for a Moon lander.

The rest was mostly Star Trek in beige shirts. Meh.

Agree that the Eagles were the best thing in the show after Maya's totally freakish abilities. Khamon whole-heartily supports a steam punk version of Space 1899.

https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p...purple/1255852 is somewhat close. Its two color but you can manually edit, I think. Also, its a bit spiky on the backside.

I was going to say I love it, but -- I'm a guy, straight, and I tend to wear the same thing for years so I'm really not trustworthy on that mark.

Obviously you weren't watching that closely. It was a collection of glaring flaws. Even as a youngster I had problems with the moon travelling fast enough to encounter a different solar system each week, and the ability of short-range ships to fly from a base traveling at speeds in excess of light to an orbiting planet and then catch up with the moon again.

But I still loved it.

One of the hairs at [Elikatira] is somewhat close to that one. I demoed it yesterday and promptly forgot the name. It's Pretend.

It's a bit long and non-flexi though.

She also has Again and Looking here. These are shorter and might work better, especially Looking.

Its true that there were a whole bushel of glaring flaws, but the whole Moon being blasted out of orbit thing was at the top of the list. I still watched it anyway. At the time, I vaguely remembered the original network runs of Star Trek and Lost in Space (because I was really little when they premiered), and by 1975, there was little good science fiction on TV. Space: 1999 filled a void.

I look back on those episodes with middle aged eyes and the flaws just stand out, along with the many continuity errors. I went through the entire series a couple of years ago and the following thoughts crossed my mind:

Season 1 was better than Season 2.
Moonbase Alpha ran through a gazillion Eagles, or their mechanics never slept.
HD is not kind to this series. I never saw all the wires on my old 13" black & white tv.
My smartphone does more than a Comlock.
