If you stick a fat character into a TV show and the bulk of their interaction with other characters revolves around them cramming pastries down their throats and complaining about their weight, sweating a lot, wearing clothing too small for them and having other characters comment on how much fat is flopping out everywhere, lots of wah I can't get a date because I'm so overweight — this is all exploitative of a fat person and not "funny."

A lot of people see people getting upset over exploitation and go OH I GUESS WE CAN'T HAVE THESE THINGS IN COMEDY ANYMORE but it's a cop out reaction that refuses to address the part that's actually insulting.

In the above example, the point of the joke is that the person is lol fat. Why is that funny? Their weight is exploited for comedic effect and it results in something that's barely more thought out than a fart joke.

I don't know why "lol dude in a dress" is supposed to be funny, but I'm not a thirteen year old stoner.

The problem with this sitcom is not that "omg I guess we can't have a laugh about cross-dressing!" Actually there's a metric fuckton of problems with this sitcom to be quite honest, but they primarily go back to specific stereotypes being exploited to try and get a cheap laugh. You're not expected to laugh because the characters are doing anything actually funny, you're supposed to laugh at them because of how stupid it is that they have to dress up like a girl ha ha ha.

I am aware of what you find offensive about this sitcom. I am asking about if 'man dressing as woman lol' is at all acceptable at all outside of this sitcom.

I just answered your question in the preceding post.

If the only point of the joke is that a guy is in a dress, I don't particularly understand why that's supposed to be funny.

I don't even know who that is, and you've failed to demonstrate why that sort of thing is even funny, so if the entire point of his act is that he's wearing a dress and thus should be mocked (I don't know if it is, you're clearly not interested in typing more than a sentence in defence of your point of view though) then I can't say I'll really shed a tear if you're not allowed to make fun of that anymore.

Panto dames are a British tradition of men playing female characters in exaggerated, almost drag queen style for comedic effect. Dame Edna is a good example.

So then, probably not remotely comparable to this sitcom and thus no one's ability to laugh at actual comedy has been harmed.

Work It was just all around a bad, offensive comedy. The preposterous drag part of it wasn't even the most offensive part. It was pretty much degrading to anyone with a brain. Every single character was just a horrible caricature, and it was particularly degrading not to the transgendered specifically but to women with the notion that the only way women can succeed is by using sex.

I didn't see the discussion going beyond this show which, let's face it, is no Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
