Sorry for all the fans of the show. But I never understood why the Sarah Connor Chronicles got axed and Dollhouse got another season. But then it's Fox, where good scifi goes to die.

(Is my bitterness over Firefly showing?)

T:TSCC got canceled because it was getting equally crappy ratings to Dollhouse and was much more expensive to produce.

I was frankly surprised at how uneven Dollhouse s2 started out. I expected that, given a "miracle" second season by Fox, the show would come out (figurative) guns a-blazing. Instead it sort of meandered for three episodes. I doubt anything could have saved the show, though. Even if this season came out stronger, nobody is going to watch edgy scripted network TV on a Friday.

Eliza Dushku improved over the course of the series, but I was never sold on her as lead actress material. The surrounding cast was great, particularly Olivia Williams and Enver Gjokaj. The scene late in s1 where Enver as "Victor" channeled Reed Diamond as the attic'd "Chief of Security Dominic" was possibly the creepiest and most effective moment in the entire series. There just no way Dushku could have pulled off anything close to that, performance-wise.

If Whedon ever does TV again (and that's a big if), he needs to GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM FOX. It would be awesome if he could do a series for HBO or Showtime, but the competition to get a show on those channels is extremely fierce, with many of Hollywood's biggest names vying for those slots. I could easily see him creating a show for a cable network like FX, TNT, or USA. I guess SyFy could be another possibility, but they only seem interested in formulaic genre stuff these days, BSG aside.

I would love to see him produce for HBO - they desperately need another hit. True Blood brought them back some buzz, but they have not been anywhere close to as strong as they were when they had the three S series at the same time (Sex and the City, the Sopranos and Six Feet Under).

Showtime would be a good fit - they have proven much more willing to do edgier stuff and give a show a chance to find an audience. USA would also be a good fit, as would FX. TNT is a different vibe I think - they go more for the heavy dramas. Definitely not SyFy or you would have to wait a year between each season.

Whatever the case, I hope he does another series soon, or that somehow Dollhouse makes its way to another network. You are right though, this season was incredible weak up to the last epsiode, which ironically was among its best.

Meh.

The idea was interesting but Eliza Dushku is less interesting than a plank of wood propped against a plain white wall. Even if you dress it up in slutty costumes it's still a boring plank of wood.

Maybe the plank of wood might be better at emoting, i'm not sure.

AMEN to the get-the-fuck-away-from-Fox sentiment. Joss needs to get his ass onto cable TV -- there is no reason why he should continue to stick with the networks.

I'm off to pursue internet ventures/binge drinking. Possibly that relaxation thing I've read so much about. By the time the last episode airs, you'll know what my next project is. But for now there's a lot of work still to be done, and disappointment to bear.

Thank you all for your support, your patience, your excellent adverts. See you again. -j.
I think because of Whedon's overwhelmingly positive experience creating Dr. Horrible he's going to focus on creating online media for the foreseeable future.

Whedon also co-wrote the horror film Cabin in the Woods with Drew Goddard (who will also direct) which MGM likes well enough that they're pushing back the original release date and investing the money to make it 3D.

I think it was a great idea and it had a couple of good actors in it. Unfortunately it didn't reach it's full potential. Dushku is just not up to that kind of thing.
I miss Firefly. *sighs*

Just a small point, but if it were not for Fox there would be no show at all.

I was disappointed when Firefly was cancelled because I loved that show, but if Whedon thought any other channel would fund his projects I expect he would have gone elsewhere. Only Fox were prepared to pay, up to a point.
