It looks like they hooked up on the show - they eloped in 2008

It was pretty good as an opener for the season. Rita kinda lost her innocent charm she used to have, evidenced by her psychotic sex drive she has now. I just wish I didn't watch the follow-up at the end, it kinda gave away the entire rest of the season.

That was a really good episode!

Deb's breakdown was wonderfully acted. Excellent work by Jennifer Carpenter. I was all teary just watching her.

I giggled at Dexter's line about the syringes, scalpels, bone saw, etc., in the trunk. And the end sequence was great.

On the downside, the relationship between Quinn and Reporter Lady bores me to tears (and I've seen enough of their sex to last me a lifetime, thanks), and I wish the writers wouldn't rely on Harry so much. But still, a really good episode.

I agree on Jennifer. The scene in the parking lot where she was sobbing literally took me to tears.

A truly awesome episode. I'm with Cindy and Miriel, I was nearly in tears watching that scene.

I'm getting to the point though, where Rita is like a speck under a contact lens or a pebble in my shoe. I won't care if Trinity offs her before the season ends, although I think it's highly unlikely it will happen.

Rita needs to STFU or GTFO.

I've been finding Rita more and more annoying too, but I think it's completely intentional. Dexter's been finding her more annoying as well, and since we're pretty much on his side and following his narrative, it's only natural that as he finds her irritating we do too.

I think as part of the arc of their marital troubles and possible solutions, they might either have a falling out or (more likely) there will be a reconnection with her where she once again becomes sympathetic.

Also, like everyone else is saying Jen's performance was just stunning. But please Miriel, next time put that in spoiler tags I wasn't able to watch the episode until tonight, so I was avoiding this thread, but the first few lines still showed up in iSpy D:

That's a good point.

I'm sorry. I didn't think that something that amounted to "Deb starts crying" would really count as a spoiler, you know?

Season 1 was excellent. It's been downhill since then, though.

There have been moments when it dragged for me - like the back and forth with Miguel last season. I didn't care much for Miguel (though Jimmy Smits is ok). On the other hand, in the season before that I was fascinated with Lila, the manipulative psycho bitch.

John Lythgow really adds something this season, IMO, mainly because they haven't overdone his exposure. You catch glimpses of him, but we haven't gotten too far inside his head yet. Mystery is good.

Except she was maybe dead after last week's episode.

Yeah, honestly it wasn't a huge spoiler (like it could have been) but it still removed some of the cliffhanger of whether she'd be in a coma, dead, or other various possibilities of her being out of the picture. The reference to Dexter's line is also something I'm grateful wasn't in iSpy, I'm one of those people who can't help but weedle out a lot of information from something insignificant. (His trunk? why would he be talking about his trunk? Did someone find it? Someone probably gets into his apartment) It's frustrating and it can make a lot of things spoiler-ish. I don't even watch the trailers for the next episodes because those can be absurdly spoileriffic.

I'm going to make a prediction about what happens next:

Since Dexter now knows the Trinity killer, he is going to put together a devilishly fiendish plan to lure him into a trap and off him... BUT

Then Dexter will see his sister Deb go crazy obsessed with catching Trinity herself, and he will realize that if he kills Trinity himself and dispose of him in the usual manner, Deb will never get closure and will be obsessed with the mystery just like Lundy.

Dexter will put off the slaughter and will instead set his sights on exposing Trinity while pushing Deb in the right direction in hopes that she is the one that catches him.

What happens after that I don't know but I can imagine a lot of really cool possibilities.

Very possible, Ariane. That'd make a nice little twist to the plot - either exposing him or killing him and leaving the body to be found, like Trinity does.

I'll make another prediction, based on absolutely nothing but my gut instincts. (This is not a spoiler so much, it's just my hunch, but I'll hide it anyway) -

Another pretty good episode, despite the intrusions of Angel/LaGuerta and Quinn/Reporter, both of which continue to be dull. This season is turning out pretty good so far, IMO.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that

I was thinking the same thing, Miriel.

I am sick of the Angel/LaGuerta affair as well as the Quinn/Reporter storyline.

Good episode, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm glad we're barely half way through the season. I'm already in anticipatory grief mode since my other favorite show "Mad Men" has it's season finale next week.

Is Rita's annoying phone sex operator voice starting to grate on anyone else's nerves besides mine?

I used to kind of like her, now she just annoys the shit out of me.

I always kind of liked her voice.

The writers have really made her annoying, though. I'm sure they're doing it to emphasis how constrained Dexter is by his new family, but they've gone overboard. She's never shown doing anything but getting in Dexter's way anymore. A scene or two where her narrative function isn't that of antagonist would do a lot to make her less obnoxious, IMO.
