But I perked right up when they dropped out of hyperspace and Rush said that the Ancients had peppered space with gates on habitable planets and the ship was looking for them. The ability to see new worlds every week is what set both the Star Trek and SG franchises apart from the crowd.

| Prim hair is for sissies. ![]() ![]() | Overall I liked it, but I thought the premiere dragged a bit. It would have been better judiciously edited into a one hour episode. I hated the previous two Stargate series which seemed to have been developed from the mediocre second half of the original movie, with the dopey faux Egyptian alien stuff. This Universe episode appears to take its cues from the superior first half of the Stargate movie. |

| it wasnt bad, though I got the impression I was watching a hybrid of Star Trek Voyager / Lost in Space / SG-1 all meshed up. Anyone else think someone is watching them with the remote camera (the ship itself maybe?) ... the scenes shown throught the camera eye seemed a bit creepy to me. and notice the big smirk on Dr.Rush when all the refugee's piled through the portal and he was watching? almost like he had planned the whole thing..... |

| I was promised a fresher darker series ala BSG, instead I get this shit... from the second the banter about the math sum buried in the video game started, I knew it would be the last episode I watch. why do they insist on the bumbling everyman? he's annoying. |

| Still holding out hope it will improve but tonight's storyline really sucked. 1st thing my 13 year old pointed out was why didn't they use the stupid flying cameras to explore the planet. OMG only 3 minutes to get back to the gate before it left, who would have thought, etc, etc, etc ad nauseum. Good news is that last night's Fringe was the best out of the bunch so far. |

Buttercup without a witty
retort? Huh, imagine that!
| I don't do reviews well, but I'll try to summarize what I got from the second episode (third? The premiere is supposed to be a two-parter). Not sure I saw the issue with the kinos (flying cameras) that Jesse brought up. They don't seem to have the kind of sampling equipment the away team needed to find the lime. I got bumped a bit too when the religious thing with Lt. Scott came up, but I began to see it more about filling in the blanks on Scott's background rather than going all BSG on us. ![]() I was surprised by how the link to earth through the long-range communications stones will be used. I'd heard the plot for an upcoming episode where they are an important feature, but hadn't realized it would allow one of the main characters to remain on earth instead of the Destiny. I guess it offer an unusual dynamic to the show, especially if Telford ends up whapping (or whatever they call it) onto the ship a lot to order people around. I liked Greer, and think Jamil Walker Smith plays him perfect. I was transfixed on his words and mannerisms whenever he was on screen in this episode. My favorite moment was just a line reading... David Blue's take on Ely's "I just have this really, really sick feeling..." line. A number of the actors seem to have a really good fix on their roles right off the bat. Young, Scott and Chloe still seem a bit nebulous at this point, though they had key roles to play. I think because they spent more time reacting off others rather than as the focus (the Scott flashback just fleshed out the character, not the actor). Anywho, I liked this episode despite the flaws. And though she didn't do much in this one, Ming-Na looked fantastic not doing it. |

Business: CGBG - Cool Gear by Gorham XBOX Leaderboard: 36th | Going back to read your post again, I realize I misread it. My bad. I see what you meant now. I didn't realize Telford was going to be a regular. If so, you're absolutely right -- using the communication stones is an interesting way of doing it. |

![]() Just didn't want my Stargate cred tarnished. hehe... I knew Lou Diamond is regular cast member, so I was a bit confused by the 2 hour premiere where Telford ends up on the Hammond as the rest go through the gate. Naturally, I appreciated this episode for clearing that up.

| Senior Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | On Ep 2, did anyone notice the pod thingy that came off the ship at the end, as the credits were about to spool? Did I miss something with that? Also, should we assume the folks who went left the survey team are stranded/never to be heard from again? On Ep 3, Rush needs to lighten up. I think he has an interesting position if played appropriately, but up 'till now, he's been a plot-hogging, selfish individual who has yet to reveal any redeeming characteristics or reasoning behind the way he acts the way he does. This could get grating after a while. It also seems to me as though he's being set up to be another Gaius Baltar. |

It's been going in circles since episode one. Something better change from the "get more power and that's an order", "there is no power" dynamic.

My Mood: | I'm not a SG fan and really couldn't sit through a full episode of it. That said, I'm mildly drawn to SG-U. Maybe it's filling my BSG void. Overall it's not a bad show.

Business: Fate Gardens Flowers and Trees | I'm thinking the shuttle might be programmed by the ship itself, possibly went to pick the gooberheads that gated to the delisted address. That would put them back into play. Now that Rush is detoxed, his attitude can change tremendously to be useful to the show. There's no hope for army guy. The little army guy will end up in charge of the military wing. He reminds me of Conseatious, our pet grey bat that's nested in the unused kitchen chimney the past several years. I'm seriously concerned about next week, ship flying into dwarf star, scooping up heavy elements it's shedding, jumping through at the last minute not caring that it'll destroy the entire system as the star's quickly dying anyway. Oh but wait, humans on the planet!!1 |

SL Join Date: October 2006 | I liked all the Star Treks and both Stargates and BSG and almost every scifi series that's been on TV. This is scifi too, so I like it too. I guess the idea of really smart American scientists ended with SG-1, though. ![]() It was established in an earlier episode that someone had to be inside the shuttle when the door closed or it would just open again. So maybe we know which shuttle took off at the end of that episode . And everyone seems so worried about the ship diving so close to the gas giant and headed for the sun, but I'm thinking Bussard Ramjet. |

Ninja of love
| I've watched SG-U, and so far I'm not blown away. Unless the next episode is much better, I will probably stop. There is a lot of the circular stuff Cubey described. I'm not yet interested or care about any of the characters. The math geek is annoying and seems like a walking stereotype. A lot of the plot devices make zero sense. |

Business: Eclectic Randomness | I've just started watching this, and I was struck by one thing. Star Trek. Star Trek: The Original Series (and movies) = Stargate (The Movie) The series focussed on Exploring, running into bad guys, helping naieve cultures overcome their misconceptions of what God is. One of the main characters dies dramatically, then is resurrected. Captain Kirk got laid. Star Trek: The Next Generation = Stargate SG-1 The Series still had a heavy focus on exploration, but it's more "day in, day out, just another day at the office sort of affair. Lots more interest in politics, overturning injustices, and solving climactic and other disasters... mostly by being "on the side of good". Lots of focus on character development and relationships. A member of a former enemy alien race is made a member of the crew. Captain Picard fell in love. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine = Stargate Atlantis The series almost completely abandons it's focus on exploration, instead basing the entire concept on a single base. Occasional visits to nearby places are made, but the series focusses mostly on politics, strife, intrigue, and worries of invasion/war. Not everything works the way they should, and the main crew spends most of their time in an alien environment, trying to feel at home there. Star Trek: Voyager = Stargate Universe A small crew is on a relatively short mission. Couple of weeks at best. The crew includes a disgraced officer who is given a reprieve from prison. The crew isn't an exploratory crew, many are raw recruits, and some aren't even supposed to be there. Due to extraordinary alien technology, the crew is whisked far far away, too far to reach or rescue by any means. Suddenly, in a world they don't understand, they confront all new alien situations, without the luxuries of adequate food and supplies for the journey that has been thrust upon them. Military and non-military types are all thrust together, and old tensions that began before the first episode come up again and again, and the crew is fragmented and many are distrusting of those in command. There are also some interesting parallels with SGU's beginning, and Space 1999, and the parallels to SyFy's recent hit remake of "Battlestar Galactica" can't be ignored. It's clear that many of the creative team and art direction teams from Galactica (2) are involved in SGU. So far, I'm quite riveted, and looking forward to seeing what happens next.. but like Defying Gravity, I have my concerns that this will get cancelled if for no other reason, than because I like it.
