My Mood: | OK - really old ![]() Battleship Potemkin. An editing masterpiece. those edgy jump cuts predated modern usage by about ... 60 years? Steamboat Bill Jr with Bustor Keaton. The cyclone sequence is amazing! Anything with Harold Lloyd.

I will cut you, bitch
| My favorite movie of all time is definitely "Casablanca." I also love "Gone with the Wind." It's long and leaves out too much from the book, but it's a great old movie. I've watched it too many times to count. Once, I watched it with two friends at work (we worked in Labor and Delivery and it was a slow night), so we were able to watch it from start to finish without distractions and by the end, we were actually crying! I'd already seen it a dozen times, but if you really immerse yourself in it, the story really draws you in. I like the Spencer Tracy original version of "Father of the Bride" and the sequel "Father's Little Dividend." I'm a sucker for black and white movies. If I'm channel surfing late at night and see an old movie starting, I watch it! |

There is no sanctuary. You
may think there is, but there
is not.
| I like the stop-animation things, too. I have a strong weakness (can one have a strong weakness?) for fifties' sci fi movies. Practically anything will do, but I of course have my favorites, like The Day the Earth Stood Still. coco <----- from the deep South, by choice |

My Mood: | None of us mentioned "Gone With The Wind" and very few of us , "Citizen Kane". Two outstanding films that were both outstanding and in terms of production were technically brilliant for their time. We're an odd lot.

| Lemon Fresh ![]() | I'm a little ashamed to admit that I've only seen bits and pieces of It's A Wonderful Life. I'm sure I'll have several hundred chances to see it before the holiday season is over though. I'll give it a go. Gone with the Wind... I actually didn't care for much. (Don't throw things!) The characters annoyed me, more than anything. My biggest problem with many old movies is the singing. I hate musicals, even when I think I'll enjoy them. Moulin Rouge, Chicago.. hell, anything with frequent singing, evening Disney classics.. I always think I'll enjoy them, then I get annoyed by the frequent singing and end up turning them off. Strange, since I have music playing almost constantly, and love music in general. *shrug* Edited to add: I'm still looking forward to Sweeney Todd, and I really hope I don't hate it. I'll probably suffer through it even if the singing annoys me, because it's Depp, and I dig him. |

| Lemon Fresh ![]() | Solid one, there. I love the adventure movies. (Unless they're the typical theme of "white person saves primitive culture from barbaric practices" films.) Bleh! How thousands of cultures survived for thousands of years before whitey came along to save them, Hollywood may never know! Thank god for the Last Spamurai and Dances With White People! My Mood: | oh, i forgot "The Best Years Of Our Lives". I've always loved that movie - unvarnished portrayal of a just post war USA seen through the lives of 3 returning vets. Won a tonload of oscars in 1946 including best picture. Joe Pantoliano was a guest programmer on TCS and called it the best movie ever made, IHO. I don't think I can argue that. |
