American Idol - Motown Night

I have been underwhelmed with most of the singers this American Idol season, and have been irritated by many of them, including Adam Lambert, who has been giving cheesy, over the top performances. Tonight, however, I have to say that his performance of Smokey Robinson's Tracks of My Tears is one of the best performances I've ever seen on American Idol. Not only was it a beautiful version, but he sang it with Smokey Robinson in the audience, which had to be intimidating as hell. If Adam doesn't return to the cheesy glam rock screeching he's been doing so far, I think he could win it.

Aren't Cheesy over the top performances the bread and butter of the holocaust of entertainment?

Allison Iraheta is my favorite right now. For a 16 year old kid she has incredible stage presence and voice - and she delivered a CD-quality performance last night, I thought. I'm not sure she'll win, as right now it looks like Lil Rounds and Adam are the #1 and #2 most-pimped contestants, but you never know.

I honestly don't much care whether any of the others make it. Most of them are decent singers but not that great, IMO.

Allison is my favorite too, and I also like Kris Allen (even if he does seem to be going for the "You know you want to fuck me" strategy). Her version of Alone was amazing, and so was her performance last night of Papa Was a Rolling Stone - I can't believe she is only 16. Most of the ZOMG ONLY 16 YEARS OLD contestants have been kind of annoying, but she is incredible.

I am hoping the transformation Adam went through last night continues - it reminded me in a way of David Cook from last season. At first I didn't like him, but when he started mixing things up a bit, his talent came through.

I have not been impressed at all by Lil Rounds. If she can't bring it on Motown night, I'm not sure she is ever going to. She has been way overrated. I also don't like Danny Gokey (or as EW.com calls him, the Goulish Widower) - way overrated.

I hope Allison or Kris win. Even though Adam impressed the hell out of me last night, I still think overall Allison and Kris seem much more genuine and less calculated.
