Microsoft's I'm A PC Ad

Microsoft has switched gears in its advertising campaign. As much as I loved the second ad, I like this one even more. They are taking Apple's negative sneer campaign and turning it around without going on the attack. It turns it around and wears the badge with pride. If handled correctly, this ad campaign certainly could make some inroads in reestabilishing the image of Windows - especially if they focus on what people are doing with Windows. The best way to counteract a bully is to outsmart them, and Apple's arrogant ads look even more so by comparison to this.

Please explain to me why does a company who has a virtual monopoly have to advertise?
It's not like we have much choice in the matter. I love Linux but I am still tied to windows and even mac now is saying it runs windows.
I suppose I can remember how warm and fuzzy I felt seeing it, while i am looking at the blue screen of death.

To raise awareness of its latest products. To trounce misinformation.

To crush stereotypes?

Out of curiosity, is a BSOD even possible on Windows Vista?

I've yet to see one.

Oh, I just realised this may be because I'm running Vista x64, which requires kernel level components to be certified. It kinda stops crappy drivers bringing the entire system down.

In the betas they replaced it with a red screen of death, but afaik it's back to blue in the final vista.

Beta Vista:

Final Vista:

Quote:
Windows 95, 98 and Me use 80x25 text mode. The Windows NT BSoD uses 80x50 text mode. The screen resolution is 720x400. The XP BSoD uses the Lucida Console font while the Vista BSoD uses the Consolas font.
When getting the BSoD, the screen will go black for about a second and any playing audio will start to skip, and then a dark blue screen will come up with white writing. On Windows XP and Vista, it reads as follows:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. The problem seems to be caused by the following file: <Insert File Name Here>
<Insert cause of BSoD here>
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

I've had two since Vista came out and both were my fault. Every other time I've had problems with drivers it just them shut down and restarted just those drivers.

Ugh, I hate their latest ads, especially that crap with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. These 'I'm a PC' ones aren't much better.

Seinfeld has been canceled. I've never thought Seinfeld was terribly funny. You have to wonder what they were thinking.

Wow, you have to love how little actual information is needed to make such a grandiose claim. The same tiny thing keeps getting repeated, that some Flickr user discovered A JPEG IMAGE on Microsoft's site had Mac Adobe Photoshop CS3 as the creator on it. A screen shot. Nowhere has it been shown the ad video was produced or edited with a Mac. Just a screen shot, single promo image in JPEG format. It's the same story being repeated over and over with the same source image. Not exactly a smoking gun.

I like this commercial. Mostly because I want to set that smug hipster Apple fuck on fire, and also because I hate Macs

Ok, then. Some of M$ marketing copy? Made on a Mac.

Priceless! on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

fwiw, I hate Apple's ads. What sold me was a user of OS X and my own experiences with it.

Cute, thanks. I always chuckle over the OS "My Dad can whip your Dad" war. It never made much sense to me. Use whatever system you like based on your needs.I've never used anything but Windows, I've never sat in front of anything but a Windows machine.

I had my first BSOD with XP last week, fittingly enough in SL.

Yes, that is what I am talking about. A JPEG image. Not a video. Yet it is being repeated over and over again that the ad was made on a Mac. John McCain should hire this guy.

Its been brought up elsewhere on the net that most ad agencies use macs. Perhaps during production in the pipeline somewhere, that is what happened.

I do have to admit that the current batch of Microsoft ads are better placed.
