A new web-only short series from Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, has debuted. It is called Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, about an inept super villain. Here's the trailer:

Act One

The other two acts are coming this week. You can also buy it from iTunes, though it is full price even though it is only 13 minutes long.

I actually really enjoyed it - it's amusing and odd.

That's good - the page was serving up Hulu as the embedded video, so I thought it might prevent you from seeing it.

I Stumbled Upon this.

Moments into it, I was like "This is like the Buffy musical episode" (one of the best Buffy eps btw).

Made more sense when I saw the credits.

Whedon taught himself to play some instruments and write music for the Buffy musical episode. Amazingly talented really.

So amazing. I keep watching part 3 over and over again.

Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to now, since it ends on Sunday. After that you'll need to get the DVD to see it.

Holy shit, Act III was incredible.

I adore Joss Whedon to death. I haven't been able to watch the whole thing -- I tried to see Act I but my computer kept skipping the video. So ... maybe down the line.

But I love Joss, so I'll keep trying.

That's the thing though... from the start that's the only kind of ending that could have happened. You have to remember who exactly it was you're rooting for and what it would mean for that person to "win."

Maybe i'm weird, but I like those "punch to the gut" endings more than any other, if they are done well.

I was expecting more an end where the world at large realised that Hammer was the real evil, and Horrible's "villany" was actually an impulse to make things better.

Yeah I would have enjoyed that ending as well, but it wouldn't have had the same emotional impact on me and I probably wouldn't have re-watched it 10 times like I did this one already.

I wasn't saying you didn't like it, just explaining how I feel.

I was sort of expecting that ending, but didn't quite want it to happen. Still a good ending though, loved the whole series

Several villains in the comic books do it to make the world a better place even if it takes killing thousands or millions to do so.
