Films with terrible endings...

I've just finished watching 'The Mist' and I've got say that was one of the most depressing endings I've seen. Talk about ending on a low. I read the short story years ago and I expected it to be left hanging and uncertain as it did there but the screenplay writer decided to take it just a bit further!

Any other films that should have a warning 'this won't end well'?

What was wrong with the end of History of Violence?

O.o. The entire movie failed. But that's just my opinion. The ending was like icing though on a poop cake. Guy hides from previous life, previous life finds him, guy turns into total bad ass, then guy has dinner with his family. The end.

I like sad endings. The happy endings and everything working out are so typical, it's nice having a change now and then. Any ending that has you leaving the theater really thinking is good too.

Well it wasn't a very good movie but it wasn't because the ending was a huge let down. Also you are way oversimplifying it.

Now the end to the Sopranos, that was a family dinner that will live in INFAMY.

I like them too. Just the ending of History of Violence seemed about as anti-climatic as it could get.

Also "No Country For Old Men"

That was a real, "ok let's just all kill ourselves" ending, it sucked and I'm not one who demands "happy endings" just a point of some kind.

Yeah I just finished watching and wanted to punish the Cohen brothers for wasting two hours of my life that I'll never get back.

And do not get me started on "There will be blood"

But that ending made sense, Dancien, it was a much better film, it was a character study and it made me think about the ending. Plus the last line made me laugh.

No Country was worth watching for Josh Brolin, though, damn he is hot.

I liked the ending to Children of Men!

WARNING - I'd call the spoilers below if they didn't completely suck - but I'm giving away the endings.

I'd say, "A.I.", but that entire film was completely awful. I really thought it was going to end with him frozen. Then came the Aliens. WTF?

RETURN OF THE JEDI. Ewoks. 'nuf said.

SIGNS. "Gee, let's invade a planet who's most abundant substance is our kryptonite."

"Passion of the Christ" and "Titanic" - the surprise endings really got me.

"The Fifth Element" - oh, Besson, why did you ruin this fun romp with Chris Tucker turning into a game show with a love story?

"Maximum Overdrive" - absolutely horrible. So Emilio Estevez is being attacked with a bunch of people by alive vehicles. The ending? They get on a boat, which apparently isn't possessed - only land vehicles act weird.

"Contact" - to quote Mr. Garrison: "I watched that whole damn movie to see the alien at the end, and it ends up being her father!" (he then pukes)

"Johnny Mnemonic" - WTF? A psychic dolphin? And how the hell did they butcher Gibson so phenomenally?

"Bowling for Columbine" - for once, Michael Moore is making (for him) a somewhat balance documentary on fear mongering in America. Then he has to do the cheapest gimmick of all time, visiting Charlton Heston unannounced, who was a perfect gentleman while Moore made himself look like even more of an ass.

Not the fault of directors, but fixed later: "Blade Runner" (theatrical cut), fixed in director's cut, and the happy-ending version of "Brazil."

Rant mode off!

Regards,

-Flip

Children of Men would've been so much better if you didn't see the boat on the horizon - like if they left them floating into nothing, you don't know whether the boat will show up or not..

I would've liked a bleak ending rather than a 'let's tie it all up nicely - yay we're saved!' kinda ending...

y'know?

Alfie, the entire movie was one long downer until then and there had to be some hope left. You know people said they didn't like that movie even with that ending because it was "depressing"?
