I do have to disagree there. I wouldn't even really call it a remake, more of a sequel with the same name. It's not the same story, just the main character shares a name with the one in the original. I love a good heist movie and completely independent of the original I think it's a darn fine film. Not the deepest and most insightful piece of cinematic art but it was entertaining and well acted and directed. Plus, I guess it must be my overstimulated young post Y2K ADHD addled brain, but I didn't enjoy the original. I felt like the entire time the only part that stuck with me was enjoying the mini coopers buzzing about, they seemed to be the most relatable and enjoyable characters in the movie to me

I've not seen the remake but I agree with you about the original - it lacks so much on so many levels and really only succeeds because it played to the jingoistic football supporter mentality. That said , it does have a rather good non-standard ending ... so shouldn't be mentioned in this thread at all .

It was remade as 12 Monkeys. (the original is a collection of still pictures - that's how low the budget is!)

I love la jetee

Anyway, Hollywood botches so many re-makes - they made Ju-On look like an episode of Buffy.

oh my goodness sooo many movies to list, I will have cancel my facial at 2pm to finish this post:

Eyes Wide Shut (Tom Cruise did not get gangbanged as warranted)

Run Lola Run (The bitch stopped running!)

Interview with the Vampire (like what da fuck!)

Steel Magnolias (they KILLED JULIA ROBERTS -- no one gets to do that. NO ONE! This is AMERICA!)

SPHERE (god awful ending, I wanted to hit them upside the head with the sphere)

Resident Evil ( I will never got those two hours back)

Living Out Loud (what an awesome movie gone so wrong)

Under the Tuscan Sun (loved it hated it loved it depending on my gay pms)

Testosterone (cult flick no one watched but I did and it was a terrible ending)

Doesn't Run Lola Run count as three different endings?

I loved that film.

Special Achievement in LOLZ

Terrible beginning, middle, and end: "American Psycho". My sister and I just saw it on "On Demand". Actually, she left after a little while because she hates gore (I don't mind gore and didn't this was very gory - gorey (sp?)). I couldn't watch the last minute or so because "On Demand" died. But that was ok. The whole movie made no sense to me. Was it all a dream in Christian Bale's head? If anyone understood this, please explain. The only good scenes were of Bale exercising in his boxers.

The whole Matrix:Revolutions as the "ending" of the trilogy. I solemnly swear there is only ONE Matrix movie.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Plot was fun, ending was disappointing. Mind you it's not the fact that it was about aliens and such but the way it was handled. Lacks over-the-topness that the rest of the movie had. I will admit however that the epilogue was really good, especially the hat part.

And yet another trilogy "ending" I will identify with just one word:
"NNUUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Why the hell would Darth scream Noooo like that? Nobody becomes evil enough to do that and loses all their skin, then just shouts "Nooo". He'd be more likely to go into a mad rage or something.
I've never heard anyone scream "Noooooo". Is this even something that exists outside of films?

Actually now I want to watch that bit in Japanese, because there is no translation of that meaning of "noooo".
Would he shout "shimatta" but go "shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimaaaaaaaaaaaaattaaaaaaaaaaaa "? because elongating words in Japanese changes the meaning a lot of the time.

Any action flick with a gratuitous romantic sub-plot has the same last 7 minutes which should all be cut.

The Abyss was a splendid film marred by a cheeze-whiz ending.

Magnolia had a ending of great brilliance, but no one else likes the film and all especially dislike the ending.

The Lion King should have stuck to the Hamlet it was stolen from and ended with everyone dead - the rest is silence.

1. Agreed x 1000. It's like the end of an episode of Murder She Wrote: "Everything's all ok and wrapped up and awesome. Let's all forcibly laugh like tools!"

2. I adore the ending of Magnolia -- it's actually my favourite part of the entire movie.

3. Agreed.

I really hate a particular style of ending. It's the horror/suspense flick where you spend a good three quarters of the movie watching the main character get stalked only to have it revealed that he's got a split personality and has been chasing himself the whole time. Really? Seriously? I hate those endings. I'm looking at you Secret Window, High Tension and half the movies I saw in the mid 2000s.

It's never really wrapped up like that - you don't know if it's all in his head or not, it's up to you to try and decifer which is why I think it's such a good film (and book).

Revenge of the Sith had some accidental hilarity. This is what happens when you translate English to Chinese back to English again:

winterson.com: episode iii, the backstroke of the west

Star War Episode 3: Backstroke of the West. You gotta see it to believe it. Completely unintentional hilarity ensues.

I don't know if one properly calls Punch Drunk Love a Sandler film or a P. T. Anderson film, but it does show that the Jerry Lewis of our time can do really well in the hands of a good director.

Bruce Willis was also improved under Gilliam's direction in 12 Monkeys, but he certainly was starting from a higher stratum.
