SYTYCD: It Keeps Going and Going and Going...

If you haven't been watching, they did a fun thing where the all-stars got to run things after the initial auditions and determine the top ten by choosing their own partners for the season. Last night was the first live show and, while there were several excellent performances, this number choreographed by Travis was my favorite.

(Robert may need to work on his upper body strength a bit though...he had some wobbles.)

I had no idea the show as even still running. I could usually count on seeing the promos for an upcoming season, but I think I've missed a few now. Thanks for posting!

They've gone from 2 hours/2 shows per week to 1 hour/1 show. It's tightened up their schedule some but there are a few dancers this year that I really love watching!

And I agree, Taylor & Robert blew the roof off - what a powerful, moving routine!

Last season was a juniors competition, so I skipped it, but we're back to the usually age range this time. If nothing else, the all-stars will be dancing every week as long as their partners last, so you might get to see some favorites perform quite a bit.

Quote:
Season 14’s All-Stars will be season 12 winner Gaby Diaz (tap), season 4’s Comfort Fedoke (hip-hop), season 8’s Marko Germar (jazz), season 10’s Jasmine Harper (contemporary), season 2’s Allison Holker (contemporary), season 10’s Jenna Johnson (ballroom), season 10 contestant/ winner of SYTYCD Armenia Paul Kamiryan (ballroom), season 7’s Robert Roldan (contemporary), season 9’s Cyrus Spencer (animation), and season 10 winner Fik-Shun Stegall (hip-hop).
Other performances here, if you want to catch up with the season:

I'm generally not too hot on hip-hop, but this year "Dassy" has stolen my heart. She moved to the US from South Korea just to get on the show, and she has impressed me since her first audition!

She's paired up with Fik-Shun, the winner of Season 10.

I also stopped watching it when they had the kids on & missed seeing any ads for a season since then. Guess I'll have to start watching it again. I watched every season till they had the kids competition. Thanks!

THAT'S why I had stopped watching. I'd even forgotten just what had triggered the loss of interest.

There was some serious wig action in that opening number.

Also, I can't say that African jazz is normally my thing, but I really loved this.

OK, I know the judges raved about that number, and it was lovely, but I felt like Jenna did 98% of the work. Mary's comment about Kiki being the best male ballroom dancer to ever do contemporary baffled me, because his partnering in it looked very similar to ballroom partnering.

You might be right, but I just judge performances based on how moving they are to me. That's why I'm not a judge

There were so many great performances last night, I kind of want to link everything. I even liked both of Kiki's and I am not a fan of him at all.

Contemporary almost always wins for me, but I was unexpectedly more moved by Fik-Shun and Dassy's performance than Lex and Gaby's. The latter was technically superior, but didn't seem as emotional to me as it was clearly intended to be.

I am disappointed by the judges' decision...I think it should have been Kaylee.

I haven't felt like her commentary was particularly helpful to the contestants, but she wasn't bothering me until this last episode. I think it's the giggling. She seemed extra giggly this week.

Husband and I play a drinking game without actually drinking. Whenever she says "So", it's a point. Her record so far in one long spiel was 6 "So's". I tried starting one with "insane" but it's never as bad as her overuse of "So".

And she loves to flash her fingernails at you. I find she says "Really" a lot in that special way she has of saying it.

I just watched this past week's episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were some very moving parts. Some of the choreography was just fun. The top 8 were all good in my opinion. I would have a hard time choosing between any of the contestants.

Kaylee is one of my faves but I don't think she will last much longer. She has improved every week.

Dassy was just likeable and fun to watch. A shame she was let go after such a wonderful exhibition of emotion and dance.

I loved Allison and Logan's choreography.

I am rooting for Koine and/or Logan.

I may be the only one who thinks Taylor puts on an act. Yep, I said it. She is good and I think we are being led to think she doesn't know how good she already is.

I still don't like Tyce and his smug face.

I do not understand Kiki's following. He somehow manages to be both boring and annoying (bornnoying?) when they talk to him and his dancing is generally only OK.

Kaylee clearly expected to be the one to go home, but I think Mark wasn't terribly surprised, if only based on the numbers...if it had been Kaylee, we would have been left with two girls and four boys.

I'm not sure whether they're doing one or two winners this year. I feel like the top four should be Taylor, Koine, Lex, and Logan, and I'd like Lex to win if they're only doing one. If they're doing two winners, I'm leaning towards Koine. Taylor has those beautiful lines and technique, but I feel like Koine has been more successful crossing dance styles and her personality just shines a little brighter.

Also, who thought this wig was a good idea? It's distractingly bad.

I don't mind Kiki so much, but there is no way in this universe that he's better than Logan, but as always, this is a popularity show rather than a technical review.

My money right now is on Koine or Lex. Something about Kaylee just doesn't appeal to me and I can't put my finger on it as she is an incredible dancer.

I love Taylor, but I don't think she's projected enough charisma this season to really be much of a threat (who knows?).

I just hope Lex is ok after his accident.

I read somewhere that the DWTS fandom has been voting like crazy for Kiki, almost to the point of gaming the system.

My issue, aside from the bornnoying phenomenon, is that most of the choreographers have been adjusting the supposed 'different' styles he's been dancing so they're basically ballroom and he can do them. He's shown almost zero versatility, despite Nigel's claims regarding his improvement, and is in no way on par with the other three or poor Logan.

Also, he was a big cry baby during hip-hop at the Academy and shouldn't have made it to the live show at all, let alone top 4.

I still don't think Kiki belonged it the top 10, let alone the top 4, but at least the right person won.

Also, this:
