woot! Next Doctor Who will be revealed Sunday!!!

No idea how (or if) we will see it in the US, we got the news live here with Capaldi.

Hopefully they will FINALLY cast a female actress this time. They have been dropping comments all over some regenerations of the doctor have been female and the Gallifreans are cool with that, Missy got a great reaction, some leading contenders are free ...... it is not like they have many excuses left.

w00t! Indeed, here it is - Sunday, all will be revealed.

Doctor Who: New actor to be revealed after Wimbledon - BBC News

I wonder what will happen with Bill - I’d hate to lose her already, after just one series. I’d guess she’ll remain, but maybe take some time off to go exploring with her new love, before eventually opting for reincarnation. Myself, I wouldn’t mind following that duo’s adventures for a while. ^_^

They’ve even made a cute trailer for the announcement. ^_^

Interestingly, only Betfair appear to be taking bets now, with Jodie Whittaker joint front-runner with Kris Marshall. In recent months, that grid was fully occupied.

Unfortunately I think we saw her swan song. Oh sure, she could pull a Tegan and come back but it felt like an ending. I am just glad it was a happy one.

Actually, if there is a female doctor next I would doubt even more that she will come back. It would completely change the potential dynamic and the beeb tends to play it safe.

I don't know - it's possible, but just one series seems like an awfully brief tenure. True, Eccles pulled that, but.. it just feels too early for her to depart permanently. (Though we know she'll be back for the regeneration) Still, we'll see. I really hope I'm right - she's an excellent companion.

But I'd agree that having both the Doctor and companion being female might feel tricky to some in the Corporation. Perhaps have a couple again, as with Amy and Rory? Then the guys don't get to feel completely crowded out.

Still, all will be revealed soon. ^_^ Checking the BBC's schedule for today shows they've nominally got 1350-1830 set aside for Wimbledon, with the news following straight after. Not being a sports sort, I've no idea how long the final's liable to take. 'Course, if it overruns, they'll just bump the rest of the day's programming accordingly.

Hm! FWIW, checking Oddchecker just now shows Jodie Whittaker at 1 / 4, and Kris Marshall at 14/5. Still, the team does love to surprise, and they definitely know how to keep secrets, so it could quite easily be someone else entirely. ^_^

FWIW, Phoebe Waller-Bridge's theatre company, DryWrite, outright denies the rumor:

That is their local time right? Which means the news should be out in the early afternoon in the US (I saw some things that said it would be early Monday here). Looks like my phone will be busy today.

Hmm, we also have to remember there will be a new showrunner. So we should not expect to see things like what we have seen the past few years.

edit: Interesting you should mention a couple since Bill left showing her GF the universe. Maybe when she is done they will go back to the Dr for the advanced tour ...

So excited.

I just hope she gets a better run (and better script!) than Peter Capaldi got lumped with. If they work this right it will be amazing.

Dr Who has felt really half arsed to me for the last couple of years. Patchy script; huge, long gaps in production; and it seemed like the writers didn't create a strong persona for Capaldi.

It is the typical stuff you would expect on social media. Basically gamergate: the return. Calling anyone that likes this a SJWs and threatening to storm off. So how many regenerations have we had and it was not a woman? How many women stormed off because of that? Disappointed, sure, someone always is, but storming off?

Oh, dudebro said they did this because of the fans as if to dismiss it. I am not sure how big a role fan wants play in, but if they do that tends to be something you pay attention to when casting a major part.

Yes, Capaldi has a lot of potential. I still can not get through the scene of him tied up with Robin Hood in a tower without huge laughs, no matter how many times I have watched it. It was almost painful to see them squander his talent. Even with the year of his introduction (the bloody 50th anniversary!!!!) being a few long episodes rather than a year-long blowout.

Capaldi was all about the eyebrows. They were their own independent country.

By the way, this isn't the first time Jodie Whittaker has dealt with an alien invasion in London:

Attack the Block (2011)

I wonder about continuity, though. What happens to Nardol? What about the time vault and the job as a professor? Might be a bit difficult to explain to the school administration
