Blade Runner 2049

The first teaser trailer is out:

Watch Harrison Ford And Ryan Gosling In The First Trailer For 'Blade Runner 2049': LAist

Quote:
Though the film won’t come out until October 6, 2017, we're getting the first glimpse of what Blade Runner 2049 will look like now, courtesy of a teaser released Monday. The teaser runs just shy of two minutes and begins with a familiar Harrison Ford line from the original 1982 Ridley Scott film: “Replicants are like any other machine. They're either a benefit or a hazard. If they're a benefit, it's not my problem.”

Blade Runner 2049, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Sicario) is an update to the iconic neo-noir flick about a former LAPD officer who now makes his living hunting down wayward androids known as replicants. As you might recall, the original film begins with a title screen that simply reads: "Los Angeles, November, 2019," meaning Blade Runner 2049 takes place 30 years later. Harrison Ford returns to his role of cop-turned-replicant-hunter Rick Deckard, and Ryan Gosling stars as LAPD Officer K.

Been waiting for this for a long time. It is shame Ford seems to have such bad feelings for the original which i think is one of the most artistic movies of all time.

Blade Runner is a work of art; one of the finest bits of cinema ever produced. Harrison Ford can blow it out his ass if he doesn't like the movie, because he was the reason I went to see it in the first place. Well him, and Brion James.

Wake up. It's time to die.

That said, I'm excited about a sequel.

The trailer makes it look all mystical. The original was solidly grounded in the world. Even if it wasn't our world and it was surfing the foaming edge of science fiction as much as any movie can, it could be legitimately viewed completely mechanistically while enjoying the metaphysical references.

The video could as easily have been a trailer for Close Encounters 2049.

I'm still kinda meh about a sequel. The original didn't really cry out for one and revisiting Ripley Scott films has a poor record (I am looking at you, every Alien film after Aliens). I will wait for reviews to be excited.

I'll take a 'meh' film directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by Ridley, with music from Jóhann Jóhannsson (and on and on) over most of what is spewed out of Hollywood any day.

I am wondering if this is part of an effort by Harrison Ford to kill off his old characters.

....and Robin Wright!

I love the first one just for the sheer artistry of it, and this looks fantastic!Making the first one was not one of Ford's miserable moments and he seems picky. I think their has to be something there for him to agree to be in it. Plus Scott is just producing and can't muck it all up. He is too busy doing that with Alien Covenant.

It looks amazing.

Marred only by a sad lack of young Rutger.

Clip from the movie, (as opposed to being a trailer or part of the 3 prequal filmettes).

It doesn't truly give anything away, but at this point, I wish they would stop putting out stuff, except maybe the prequels. I can't stop myself from watching, but I feel it's spoiling things for me.

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm a Jared Leto skeptic. His version of The Joker in Suicide Squad was terrible, and I can't recall any performance of his I've liked.

I have very low hopes for this movie. I suspect it'll play out as more of someone's vague memory of the original. Leto supposedly went method acting for this role which is what he did for the Joker and we all know how well that went.

Pity they didn't get someone decent like Karl Urban for this.

I don't think Leto's character will be any more key to the plot than Tyrell was for the original Bladerunner. Tyrell was important, and Joe Turkel was awesome, but he was not actually in the movie that much. I think this will boil down to Ford and Gosling, who I usually enjoy watching.

More than most movies, I also think this one can live or die simply by the "look" of it. Anything less than breathtaking will not do.

Here is the second short "prequel" called "Nowhere To Run"

Really the only thing I could take form this is that they have done a great job of "replicating" the look of the first film.

See what I did there?

I have no idea if this will be a good movie or not (even though early reviews are using words like "Masterpiece") but it sure seems like they tried to do it the right way with very little CGI and deference to the original.

Here's a spoiler-free review:

Blade Runner 2049 - The Verge
Quote:
Cinematographer Roger Deakins delivers some of the best work of his career, deftly evoking the look of the original while also bringing moments of extreme color and even more extreme contrast to the table. This LA isn’t as smoke-filled as every single location in Scott’s film was, but it delivers its own kind of mood. I had the benefit of seeing the film projected in the high dynamic range Dolby Vision format, and it’s shocking just how much can be done when someone like Deakins is able to use that wider color gamut and increased contrast to sculpt a movie’s imagery. Roger Deakins has been one of the best cinematographers in the world for decades now, yet has somehow remained Oscar-less. If he doesn’t win one for his work in Blade Runner 2049, the Academy Awards should just pack it up and call it a day. The film is that beautiful.

Scott went on record saying that Deckard was himself a replicant – an idea which horrified Ford who argued for his humanity.
Of course Deckard was a replicant. The unicorn scene was a dead giveaway.
