Fox to bring back The X-Files?

You heard it here first, peeps. Fox is having discussions about The X-Files again, either as a continuation or a reboot, or some way. Good, bad?

Show used to scare the pants off me when I was really little. They also based some of their episodes on real (alleged) historical events, claims, and legends and since I was into reading about all that weirdness as a kid, I'd be delighted when I recognized a reference.

If they absolutely have to do this, DO NOT MAKE A REBOOT.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are still looking good and acting well. I'd watch a continuation with those two.

I'd probably skip a reboot with new faces unless it was very well reviewed.

Maybe they could investigate FOX News.

I would like to see a continuation of the last series. The new couple with Scully were right for the roles. The dynamic of Scully being the believer was right at the time. The only way Mulder & Scully would be able to continue properly would be with a reboot.

John Dogget and Monica Reyes.

Probably one way they could hedge their bets is by them training new people but still going on investigations. Partly because you would expect it by this point, partly because of the fact that by now you need to plan for a 'what if' scenario where one of them is incapacitated.

A continuation with Dogget & Reyes would require partial recasting, since Robert Patrick is on SCORPION.

I'm all for bringing back THE X-FILES, as long as its not a reboot, some of the same writers are involved, and there's no crossovers with other FOX shows. (Could you imagine Mulder and Scully popping up on SLEEPY HOLLOW?)

As long as we have the prospect of another Clinton v. Bush election, why not bring back the X-Files as well?

Fringe did the X-files so much better than the X-files. So they shouldn't bother.

Too late, the X-Files is already part of the TV crossover universe. The map connects shows that have had crossovers. X-Files is in the upper right.

It's missing the Simpsons crossover.

If it came back it would need to do like Fringe (season 3?) did and develop an equivalent to the parallel world theme - it couldn't go back to investigating odd things week after week.

NO to a reboot - do something similar but different if that is the chosen direction!

God forbid we waste creative effort on a new show with a new premise.

Animated shows are not included, only live action. The idea is characters that appear in two series link them in the same universe. Fox and Mulder as animated characters are satire, not the same characters who appear in the X-Files.

Some of that chart is a bit questionable, at least with SF. For example, When did Red Dwarf do any of the crossovers it is credited with? I am sure it mentioned some of the others since it is a comedy/parody but it is not like they had Janeway piloting the Starbug. Angel <-> BSG? ST <-> Team Night Rider?

I think that chart is of the Tommy Westphall Universe and thus isn’t a depiction of actual TV crossovers, but rather shows the linkages that would result were the events that took place in St. Elsewhere part of the fictional Tommy’s fictional imagination.

Whoa...what character from the X-Files ended up on Criminal Minds? I'm a big CM fan but I don't remember ever noticing any such connection.

I think to get included in the Tommy Westphall universe all it takes is for a character in one show to mention something about another show to create the linkage.

Lines like “Whoa there, this isn’t an X-Files situation we have here.” or “I’m not Doctor Who, you know.” could easily turn up in the script for almost anything.

I highly doubt their ability to do it well, and I certainly hope they would avoid a reboot.

Morley cigarettes. Many of those links rely on common props. The favorite brand of the Cigarette Smoking Man was used by a serial killer on Criminal Minds.

Wow, it must be really expensive to mock up a cigarette packet! Though maybe what’s really expensive is paying a writer to come up with a name for a brand of cigarettes.

(OK, OK: it was probably a deliberate homage.)
