Seriously guys - look how bad the X-Files movies sucked. This is not going to be a beautiful thing. Plus, the Lone Gunmen are dead.

Another way is via props and brands. For example, the fictional cigarette brand that Spike smokes in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Morley) is the same one that the Smoking Man smokes in X-Files, therefore they are in the same universe.

Which sadly leads to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morley_(cigarette)

(Based on the ciggies, 24, Californication (irony!), Seinfeld, That 70's Show, Nash Bridges, Mannix, and Buffy are in the same universe!) (So is The Walking Dead...)

CONFIRMEDED! Chris Carter directing, Duchovny and Anderson are both on board, and it's not a reboot.

Quote:
“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

They completely missed the "Eureka! / Warehouse 13 / Alphas" crossovers.

What's cigarette man returning as? A pile of ashes? He'll be one of those talking heads like in Futurama? He got blown up in the last episode of the X-Files, and looked like he was about 150 years old anyway.

The show died the moment Duchovny left. As much as I like Robert Patrick, I just couldn't stand his character, or that Monica person.

Also, after binging on Californication, I can just imagine Fox Mulder's explanation to Scully:

"They were aliens, Muthafuckaaaaaaa! Now how about some head?"

Frankly I don't care; he was my favorite character in the whole show, bar-none. Dude dragging on a cigarette through his stoma was legendary hard-core.

Simple, time worn explanation: He jumped out at the last moment. Let Annie Wilkes explain.

They better hurry. He's starting to look like Pope Benedict.

It's just the grey hair. A little dye and he'll look exactly the same as he did in the 90's.

By the way, did you know that William Davis is actually a non-smoker in RL? The prop cigarettes were filled with dried cloves.

Watch the first new X-Files footage in seven years | Polygon

A brief teaser is shown at the end of the video below but starting today Fox is going to show an episode a day of the original series til the mini-series launches on January 24, 2016. That's 201 episodes. They are also all available on Netflix.

I am excite if they really manage to pull things off good.

As usual with reboots or late continuations...there is doubt they'll get the spirit of the thing right.

I'm not sure they can, actually. Firstly if we're talking broadcast Fox, they're not gonna replace an hour of every single day's primetime lineup with episodes of a 20-year-old show anyways. But even if they wanted to - I'm pretty sure the current broadcast rights to the show have been rented out to one of the Rerun Channels like TNT or FX or SyFy or sommat, and I suspect that part of such a contract would preclude Fox from airing the show themselves as long as the other channel has paid dibs.

William B Davis is still alive, he's 77 now so is a bit older looking, but in local interviews in vancouver (where they filmed it again) he said he was thrilled to be asked to reprise his old role.
