| lost my friends and IM I've lost the ability to IM, and I can't bring up my friends list. (I'm waiting for my video card update and am still using the old 6150 LE card, but assume this is an unrelated problem.) I can click on an avatar, and then click on IM in the Pie thing, but nothing happens. I can click on me, and click on the Friends section of the pie, but again , nothing happens. There is no friends or IM button at the bottom of the screen. I have made 3 friends, and I did send IMs to them but I no longer see them on a list and can not IM anyone any more. I have deleted the SL software and reloaded it, but that didn't fix it. In the process of getting my password reset, I was asked for the 1st names of my friends, so the friend's list must still exist, I just can't access it. One of the people on Help Island suggested that I delete something in the Applications folder but I don't understand what I was supposed to do. So, any ideas? |

| The Application Data files for Second Life are not deleted when you uninstall, so I'd suggest uninstalling the software again, doing a manual search for 'SecondLife' and deleting all the remaining files (they may be hidden) before attempting a reinstall. If you're using XP, the files in question are located at C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SecondLife

| Well, thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately ____ I deleted the Applications folder and deleted SL and downloaded a new one and still have the same problem. I'm a basic non paying person, so I guess there is no way to get this problem directed to Linden tech support ? What do you suggest next? thanks again- |

| "I deleted the Applications folder". I'm not sure what that means. Did you follow Ann's instructions and delete the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\SecondLife This folder doesn't contain the main application. Just the settings and cache files. |

My Mood: | When deleting a program, you should be going through the Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. This is the only way to make sure you COMPLETELY delete all the files that belong to that program. You may still have files out there that are screwing up your machine. |

I can't IM. I can click on the IM pie section but nothing happens. Am I supposed to have an IM button I the bottom of the screen.? -because I don't BTW, yes, I was able to see the friends list and IM 4 days ago, then it went away. I'm not sure if this may have happened after accepting an upgrade from SL? -thanks Last edited by robert Jung; 09-30-2008 at 10:46 PM.. | |

| I didn't follow Ann's instructions exactly, because I didn't find tat exact file. ( I know some basic stuff about my computer but beyond that I'm fairly clueless) What I did, was first I removed SL by going to Control Panel Add/Delete. I then went to My Computer and found the hidden files associated with SL Applications. I deleted the whole folder. I figured I was deleting more than what I needed to, but I hoped that Ann's file would be one of the files in the whole fodder that I deleted ;-) I then downloaded a new SL. My preferences had not changed. Should they have? Thanks everyone. Last edited by robert Jung; 09-30-2008 at 11:00 PM.. |
