Key Logger

I suspect there may be a key logger on my home PC. Not positive, but it's a suspicion I have. I installed the free version of Ad-Aware and nothing was detected. However, I'm not sure if the free version scans for and detects key loggers. I looked on the website, but I'm still not sure.

Is anyone familiar with this software and can you tell me if the free version would show me if there is a key logger on my PC?

Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro USA This will run in your browser.

ETA: I can't say about Ad-aware free. I haven't used Ad-aware in a couple years and now can't use it at all without booting into windows.

And that will detect a keylogger? Okay, another quick question. I also have trend micro virus protection on my computer. I'm assuming this should detect a keylogger, too?

Not very technical person here.

Or you could just type in some outrageous lie and see if that special someone reacts to it.

Wait - are you saying you don't have anti virus software loaded on your computer??? Any good anti virus program would nuke a keylogger in a tenth of a second. If you don't have one, GET ONE RIGHT NOW! This day and age it's insane to not spend the $20 to $30 dollars for a quality one to protect your $1000 computer.

If you think the person had physical access to your computer, check the back where the keyboard plugs into the computer for any odd devices between the keyboard and computer. Anti virus programs can't detect those, but your eyes will 100% of the time.

I had Ad Aware - the PAID version and I can tell you from experience....

It doesn't work.

Spend the money on Norton or McAfee - well worth the small cost for daily updates and piece of mind.

Type out your credit card details a few hundred times and see if anyone tries to buy anything. That should answer your question.

Oh god not Norton. Plz don't get Norton. We'll be giving you technical support for system instability for the next decade if you get that.

Get something like AntiVir which is renowned for its detection rate and doesn't suck up system resources. (There's a cut-down free version if you don't wanna buy.) It even picked up a trojan in some freeware I downloaded (to my PC) for my SymbianOS smartphone. It wasn't a false positive either.

The quick solution to your keylogger issue is to download Spybot Search & Destroy. That will pick up anything using the Windows API to log keystrokes... and it's free.

Kaspersky Anti Virus has the best detection rate, get Kaspersky Internet Security and you've got a good firewall, spam email detection and a load of other stuff. Its at a good price and its not bloatware like Norton.

Not very technical person here.

If you have Trend Micro AntiVirus + AntiSpyware you will not be able to detect a keylogger on your computer.
If you have Trend Micro Internet Security installed then you have no need to worry. If you run a scan using Internet Security, should you have a key logger installed it won't be there when you have finished running the scan.
I know this from personal experience in the past.

I use Avast, ZoneAlarm and Spybot Search & Destroy, and they seem to do the trick for me.

I've had terrible trouble with Norton in the past, and have seen McAfee chew up more than one laptop, so wouldn't recommend them.

I do have trendmicro anti-virus and anti-spyware, but don't know about internet security. I'll double-check that.

I'm also going to check out spybot search & destroy.

Thank you everyone for your help!
