My Mood: SL Join Date: 11/10/2007 | Which email programs work well on Windows 7? Hey der, sorry for asking this, but I'm at my wits end, and y'all are so smart, I am hoping you might be able to give some advice... I'm in the process of switching from Outlook Express on Win XP to Win 7 and after almost a month of trying, I cannot find an email program I am happy with. Windows Live Mail would be fine if it didn't have to constantly push Live SkyDrive or the embedded image slideshow "features". Thunderbird would be cool if I could actually specify that I want my part of the message sent in Arial 10pt (I even tried the QuoteAndComposeManager add-on with no luck). Plus I would like to receive the emails looking like how they were sent, and not override how they look on my end. Are there any other low cost options for email out there? Should I shell out $60 for Home Office 2007? I rely on email for my income, so it is very important that I don't look weird via text, so simple functions are pretty important to me. I'm really amazed how such an old program worked so well in comparison to the new (to me) alternatives. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: October 2004 Blog Entries: 1 | The only email program I've ever used on Windows was Outlook (not the express version), though I'm less and less of a fan of the version included in Office 2010. Honestly, depending on where your email is, I'd just as soon sign up for Google Apps and just use the website version. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: 11/10/2007 | My emails are from 5 different domains and almost 5gb of old stuff I need to hold on to. I am reluctant to hand everything to the googlelords (but I am desperate). Do you happen to know if they have an app that would display a new email icon in a taskbar? |

| There are two applications designed for Gmail that I am very fond of...they are not widely known, but free and working extremely well. One is POP Peeper - Email Notification which can check all sorts of mailboxes, including Gmail via the IMAP plugin, (you do not need the Webmail plugin). Very flexible and useful ![]() The other is MailStore Home which lets you archive all of your Gmail folders in a local mirror that you can browse and search offline...it is not very straightforward but quite reliable. SL Join Date: Early '06 or late '05, not sure. Client: Singularity | I use Claws these days, but I've no experience with the Windows port. This might be of interest. Eudora was nice before they turned it into visual spam. It looks like they changed it back to something usable though and may be worth a try. Pegasus was probably the most powerful one available back in the 90's, but many others have most of it's functionality nowdays. It's still very good but it's interface is a bit quirky. Personally I like KMail and Claws, but KMail has no Windows port. |

SL Join Date: Aug 2007 | I've used Thunderbird for years, even for Google accounts. Recently I tried using the Gmail web site alone for the various Google accounts but I was been very disappointed in the facilities it offers and went back to Thunderbird after a couple of weeks. In particular, Gmail's own filters are very rudimentary - several things that I can do very easily in Thunderbird are actually impossible with native Gmail filters - and what support there is for multiple accounts seems to be bugged into uselessness. Plus, even with all the modern web bells and whistles, it's much quicker and nicer to use a native app than a browser thing.
