Firefox keeps closing

placeholder. title explains why. will edit in a minute.

Edit: I'm having a very annoying problem with firefox today. Occasionally, I get a popup box asking for a username and password:

Quote:
Enter username and password for "Development Area" at http://www.crazzy.se/
I've never visited that site, and have no idea what the credentials might be. But when I click cancel, firefox just shuts down.

It instantly closes to the desktop, without even so much as a close program sound. And it doesn't save my tabs. I'm gettting really annoyed.

Attempting to go to that site does the same, but closing the credential box gives this message.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

I thought that was a sign of a virus or something, no?

Also, your mood says HUNGRY. Why have you not eaten yet? Why do you plan on eating? Do you cook yourself or will it be carryout or fast food?

Actually, I just ordered a kebab

Downloading zonealarm just in case. Will run an AVG scan too.

WarKirby, check this out:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01..._spoofing_bug/

I've been concerned about it since it was posted, and have been checking for Firefox updates (to no avail) since. The video linked to that Register article involves a bogus authentication dialog, which struck me as a similarity to your situation.

As it happens, I've had terrible problems with Firefox shutting down without warning this past week (this has *never* happened to me before), but after uninstalling all my plugins, it's stable again - so I figured it was something to do with a rogue plugin.

In the start menu for it, look for Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) and have it basically wipe your profile except your bookmarks if you think your Firefox install's been pwned.

Also, I only launch firefox via "Drop My Rights"

http://cybercoyote.org/security/drop.shtml

It's a program from M$ that lets you reduce the privledges the app runs at so it can't do thinks like install apps without your permission, etc.

I forgot to mention that I found this in my Firefox cache while I was investigating the problem:

I always suspect a false positive with Generic hits though, particularly with Grisoft AVG. (I trust Kapersky more but that found nothing.)

Thanks for that Kristian. =)

I have one issue with Firefox. At least once a day when I log in to gmail or hotmail Firefox crashes. It doesn't do it with any other sites, just those. Once I open Firefox up again I can log in to both email accounts with no problem.

How long has this been happening? It does seem odd to me that I've never had the closing without warning problem before, but it's suddenly affecting me and lots of other Firefox users I'm acquainted with too.

It might be worth following Kristian's advice and resetting your profile. Be careful what you delete though. You don't wanna lose your bookmarks.

My Firefox issue:

I cannot log into the SL Official Forums with Firefox. Only with straight IE.

This has been going on for a few months now. I'll try Kristian's advice though and see if it makes a difference.

Good luck Brig!

And hey Brianna, do you have any Firefox addons installed?

I'm not certain of this, but I suspect anything which messes with your cookies might prevent you logging into the SL forums.
