SLurls broken?

I seem to be unable to use SLurls.

If I click one like...

http://slurl.com/secondlife/To%20The%20Nines/148/127/23

I get to that web page fine but when I click the "Visit this Location Teleport Now" button...

If SL is not running it starts SL but nothing else.

If SL is already running it tells me that SL is already running and won't teleport me.

Am I doing something wrong? Are SLurls completely broken? This happens with either the RLV or normal SL clients.

Tess

Did you recently uninstall a client?

I am having a similar problem. I had the official viewer installed which I used for SL almost exclusively. I had Meerkat installed for OSgrid. For some reason the official viewer suddenly stopped letting me log in world even after an reinstall. So ...not being a massive fan of MeerKat and because I decided to just use Emerald for everything (cos I like it) I uninstalled MeerKat.

Now when I click on a SLURL I get a message that SLURL is not associated with any program and cannot open. Nowhere can I find how to reassociate SLURL's with Emerald so I am stuck with manually copying the info into map. It is a pain in the arse.

If you use Firefox, it's Tools > Options > Applications

I had to do an extra step with my new computer, since I use a 3rd party viewer. Let me see if I can find the instructions again.

ETA: OK, I think this is it.

Quote:
1. In a blank tab, type about:config. You will be shown a page with a list of Firefox's configuration variables.

2. In the filter field, type network.protocol-handler. This will show a list of protocols handled by Firefox. You may or may not see the secondlife protocol in the list. If it's there, it would look something like network.protocol-handler.external.secondlife. The protocol is probably not there, though, in which case you'll need to add it. First create a Boolean protocol, then a String protocol.

3. To create the configuration setting, right-click on any item in the list and select New > Boolean. In the preference name, type network.protocol-handler.external.secondlife, and set the value to true. This tells Firefox to use an external program to handle the secondlife SLURL.

4. Next, create a new string item by right-clicking anywhere on the list and selecting New > String. In the preference name, type network.protocol-handler.app.secondlife, and in the value field, type the path to the program you want to use for that protocol (e.g. /home/mark/SecondLife_i686_1_18_3_5_RELEASECANDIDATE/secondlife). Do not use the parenthesis or the punctuation mark following the closing parenthesis.

5. Restart Firefox and you should be set. If not, reboot and try it again. I had to reboot.

6. Try http://slurl.com/

Thanks so much Ann Seems to work fine now ....at least when I click on an SLurl it fires up emerald (which it did not before) so I am assuming the rest will work. Not convenient to log inworld at the mo so I will check it later to be sure.

You are a star

hmmm interesting.....what Id really like to do is intercept the slurl link and make them open the LM directly in SL. (meaning without seeing the slurl page, click the blog link and open in SL).

Anyone figured that one out yet?

You can change it to open in whichever viewer this way, although these instructions are only good for Firefox.

There was no option for Second Life (or secondlife) at all when I set things up on my new computer, hence the more complicated instructions above.
